I think the Doubles "issue" will be resolved with slider tweaks. Right now it looks like the power needs to come down and the Skill slider needs to be raised.
The proper balance of those two sliders have always been the key to getting a good variance of hit types. With a higher Skill setting the ball comes off of the bat a lot quicker. The abnormal amount of singles seem like a problem with outfielder depth but if the ball is hit harder the depth makes more sense. Additionally, the outfielders won't be able to cut off every ball hit down the lines and into the gaps.
The Demo has been fun! Looking forward to playing the full game! Just a few minor gripes:
- The fielders seem to get to everything...even smashes up the middle. (I know..."Sliders")
- I wish I had more control over my infielders. On ground balls just to the left or the right, The AI seems to take over and get to the ball for you. All I get to do is make the throw.
- I was hoping for an option to remove the strike zone. Sometimes I feel that it obstructs my view of the ball coming off the pitchers hand.
Other than that, Great Job 2k!!
Oh Yeah, In 8 games with the demo I have yet to split the gaps. I guess its just my timing!!!!
Gameplay fundamentals and gameplay glitches in that video are 2 different things. I am mostly talking about how the cpu thinks and acts according to the rules of baseball.
That video isn't fundamentals, it's bugs. I'm talking about stuff we've seen so far in the few gameplay videos of the demo. Stuff like guys advancing to third on comebackers to the pitcher....
And I still saw new bugs in the videos that didn't exist last year.
Exactly, for someone to call this game fundementally broken is smoking some bad s**t. I have played the hell out of this demo and i haven't found 1 AI issue that effects gameplay. There is some little stuff, like a funky animation every now and then, but to call the game fundementally broken like it deosn't adhere to baseball is bs.
I would like to see one video of a AI issue that wasn't caused by bad user control. I mean it's cool if you don't like something, but to just make up stuff is beyond me.
I highly doubt those two guys are "making stuff up", when there are others as well saying the exact same situations.
These are impressions they are giving. Fundamentals and bugs like in that video are two different things. And that video is smoke and mirrors anyhow, cause it is small sample size, balls did not go through the bat 100% of the time, nor did the balls go through the fielder 100% of the time. You could have showed 2K9 side by side, and one where it was a hit and one where it was a catch, and say "fixed".
I would hope they fixed those glaring bugs, but to have a video on it, seemed silly to me. It should be the obvious. But that is my opinion on that video and I will not dispute it any further.
Anyhow back on course, these are people's impressions, and just because you don't agree with them, doesn't mean they are "making things up".
I had three doubles in one inning last night. One in the gap, one over the CF's head, and one down the RF line. The one AI gaffe that I noticed was that when Werth was on second with one out, I hit a scorching one-hopper to Rodriguez at third. I had no idea how to hold Werth so he runs on contact and is headed straight to Rodriguez. Rodriguez had an eternity to just wait for Werth to run into him for the tag, but he never acknowledged him in any way as he went through a normal throw to first and Werth waltzed into third.
A quick question for anyone, when you hit the cutoff man is there any way to take control of the player making the cut? The cpu takes over once the catch is made and I cannot get control back.
When Will the demo be out for people without Xbox Gold?
You can get a free one-month gold membership by creating a new gamertag and signing up for a silver account. Decline the option for a paid gold account and it will give you the free one month of gold. Can do it three times on one machine.
I second you on that one. Great offering from 2K, and you would be naive to think it's a perfect demo, yet alone game. Considering what we had last year, I have been very impressed and have played at least 15-20 games of the demo so far, with maybe one head scratching play by the AI.
This very well could be an isolated moment, where the user got frustrated and just declared the game broken, which in my opinion, it clearly isn't. I don't think I am alone, considering most of the people who have seen minor flaws, still admit it's a step in the right direction for VC. I am also of the opinion that the fielding speed, throws etc can be toned down by sliders, so no need to press the panic button there.
I am very impressed with the demo. The graphics look more "realistic" as compared to last year. So far, the gameplay has been very smooth.
The only negatives I have really noticed are that at times when fielding a ball with your infielder and throw to a bag, the throw looks like it just comes right out of nowhere. Kinda just rockets out, like its missing part of the animation or something. On a similar note, the infielders jumping when throwing the ball happens way too often.
Crowd in the upper decks near the outfield look horrible. And one thing that I am really keeping an eye on is that when I have thrown the ball in from the outfield, the fielder threw it to the wrong base. Like if I pressed the 2nd base button, the ball went to 3rd base. Happened twice so far. I hope it's not a gamekilling fielding glitch.
Overall, I like it and will be buying along with the other baseball game.
I've played 3 games with the demo and one thing that didn't seem improved in any of the games was AI batting...they were still not taking any pitches...in 9 innings (3 demo games) I had 3 innings in which I threw 3 pitches to get 3 outs...so pitch counts were still terrible...maybe this year a slider can improve it but that turned me off because it was the same thing that drove me crazy last year...
