NCAA Basketball 10 News Post

No franchise was more in need of a makeover last fall than EA's (formerly known as) March Madness series. The crescendo of the franchise's downfall came with March Madness 08, which turned out to be the equivalent of a number 16 seed after the first day of the NCAA Tournament -- routed by a vastly superior opponent and lucky to even have been invited to the big dance. Thankfully, EA listened to the criticism leveled at the March Madness series and decided to start from scratch. The result was NCAA Basketball 09.

NCAA Basketball 09 corrected many of the nagging issues from the March Madness series and implemented a core experience that could be built upon in future iterations of the series. While the game was ultimately crippled by some annoying bugs (for example, playing zone against the CPU would force an ungodly amount of turnovers) and a lackluster dynasty mode, the overall game was a very solid Freshman effort by EA. 2008 marked the year that the developers at EA once again made their college basketball offering relevant.

And now with the first week of college basketball upon us, it is only natural that EA has released NCAA Basketball 10. Touting revolutionary television presentation, an all-new motion offense mechanic and yearly team and player "dynamic" updates, NCAA Basketball 10 is ready to up the tempo and try to run all other 2009 hoops competition out of the gym.

So is the game ready to ascend to the level of a UNC, UCLA and Michigan State, or is NCAA 10's bubble going to burst well before March?

The presentation and gameplay are pretty good. The thing they need to patch is the animation magnets. I hate driving the lane or the CPU drive the lane and any resistance or challenge goes into the same crazy shot one hander off balance crap. This is getting old and it happens every time!

Dynasty mode is improved but it seems way to easy to get recruits. You can pretty much land anyone that has at least a High or Highest interest level to your school. No challenge at all. Selection Sunday show is a joke at best.

This game is good for playing with a buddy, but as far as lasting appeal by yourself in Dynasty....F

No matter what games come out someone is going to bash it. Ea made huge steps from last year!!!!If I like a girl, I like her, I am not going to ask my friend well what do you think do you like her!! Reviews are so funny to me because over half of the guys who review sports games don't even like or play sports games!!! Go to any gamestore and ask most of the people who are at the desk about a sportsgame that just came out , they say I don't play sportsgames!!!!!! Reviews are a JOKE, if you played ncaa09 and ncaa10, ncaa10 is way better!!!!!!!!!!!! Cmon Son!!!!!!!!!
Not to sound like a 2k8 fanboy, and from what I played of 09 this is a big improvement especially presentation-wise. However, I don't think the comparison should be with NCAA 09 but with College Hoops 2k8. There are alot of players out there with 2k8 looking for EA to make a game at least on par if not better than 2k8 so they can update their college game. (I am one of them) Quite honestly I'm not that impressed with this game. If they could add the presentation and atmosphere of NCAA 10 to College Hoops, then you'd have a near perfect basketball game.

I thought I nitpicked too much, but something must be in the air the past couple of days. I haven't played the game for an extensive amount of time yet, but I just really think EA did a good job on it. It's undoubtedly better than last years title (which I happened to wear out.) I'm just really confused as to why so many are bashing this game. I know that a video game can't be perfect, and I don't expect that, but I just think so far, it's a really solid game. Oh, and by the way, I couldn't even play NCAA FBall 10 this year because it was exactly the same game as 09 with some updates so I'm happy that NCAA BBall 10 has the new "feel" to it.

Wow!

I simply spoke about the reviews being basically on point with what i was seeing in the demo and all of sudden i've become a 2K fanboy or EA ***** overnight..............

I'm still playing Madden 10, NHL 10 and NCAA 10 so i can't have that much of a grudge or hate towards EA.

I just stated that their basketball titles this year just basically dissapointed me because of the flaws that have been around for several years now still existing. Obviously, I'm not delusional or making this stuff up or hating on EA because we now have professional game writters pointing out the same flaws in their reviews.

Not sure why people feel i'm hating on the game because like i said initially before the demo came out I was very excited about the possibilities of using this game to create a massive NCAA basketball legends roster file. But the demo gameplay killed it for me and the reviews i've read didn't help to change my mind about the game either.

I think that anyone who browses this site knows that you do support both 2k and Ea no need to defend yourself. Only have played the demo and giving a constructive opinion means nothing. I think people who PLAY the game are pretty surprised at that number. I know I am

This is the best OS review rated 6 game I think I've ever played!

In all seriousness, how it scores lower than NCAA '09 has still not been addressed. It's surely a step forward in the series. Hopefully, there is enough positive vibe from others here who are enjoying it to not deter others from at least renting and taking it for a spin.

# 68 Flightwhite24 @ 11/21/09 01:14 AM
A 6???? Wow all credibility from OS reviews are out the window and I've almost always are in-line with there scores. A 7.5 at worst and maybe an 8 at best as it stands.

Just my personal opinion. This game is better than Live 10 imo. Peace!!!

Heck, it is rated lower than mlb2k9. Even that got a 6.5-what a joke

And this is why you dont follow the review of anyone at any site.

It is his opinion and you should rent the game and see for yourself.

They are quick to give games like Madden and NCAA high scores , when in reality those game did not deserve the score they received, so why use their review to make your decision.

It weird but for some reason no one has the heart to give those games what they really deserve.

Do yourself a huge favor and if your curious about this game or any game, just rent it. You will be surprised how many games you will enjoy finding out for yourself then having someone review make your decision.

This game is not a 6.

Got to give this game a 7.5/8. Not the best hoops game in the world, but the gameplay and presentation is a big jump from last year.I think everyone on this site will agree that EAC needs to start over with the dynasty mode to take the next step

I would still give it at least a 7.5. For somebody who did not play 09, it feels a little more exciting maybe. The rosters are surprisingly good, the RPI's AI, etc., is solid, and the game plays alright on the court (like NBA Live lite?). Through patches they can improve certain flaws. Final stats in a 15 minute game on all-conference difficulty turn out very realistic. The crowds are well done. Overall, not a bad game.

Fair enough review for me. Ill give it a 7 though. Im enjoying the game.

but sometimes i just cant help but be annoyed when my players get sucked on contact. the players looking like they are on super soldier serum. LOL.

but it is a WAY BETTER GAME than 09 and i gotta give EA credit for that. It's not perfect, but at least we see the game making strides into greatness.

Now all EA has to do probably is learn from these reviews and make more improvements in the next games to come. But this is a great step towards it.

But my players still look like bodybuilders. LOL

I'm not getting into it with anyone about what game is better all i know is when i get this game i'm getting because i want to and not because of a review. chill no need to get all upset people in the end its just a game
Then why make the 2k fan boy comments. It really is juvenile and you can't cover it up by saying chill. No wonder the forums turn into company wars so often. Ridiculous comments like yours are not needed. Review or not, if someone likes the game that's great and if they don't it doesn't make them a fanboy. Now that's ridiculous.

I think a "6" is very fair...this game is a nice addition to any college basketball addict's gaming library, who must play a video game that represents the sport. but it's not a well done game at all. i played for the first time last night and the flaws were obvious. there is nothing unfair about the review, and i found myself agreeing with the insights and didn't see anything in the review that i found disagreeable.

This is the first EA basketball game I've bought since NBA Live when the xbox 360 was first released. I rented others since but always disliked them. I didn't play NCAA '09. I became a 2k basketball person and, like many of you, love CHOOPS 2k8. I even have 2 copies, one unopened in case something goes wrong with the first.

Now that I got that out of the way, I have to honestly say I am enjoying the gameplay and atmosphere of this game. It really gets you in the game. The game really does capture the essence of college basketball even better than the other game from a couple years ago. I'm just talking on the court here. I haven't been in dynasty mode yet. I figure it would be hard to beat CHOOPS dynasty mode. One thing you guys will notice is how authentic plays look. I think the review score should be higher.

One thing that can be improved like the reviewer said is post play. Having said that I'm satisfied with what the post play offers so far. Another thing is more varied animations but that's not a big deal. I would be more concerned if this was the pro version of basketball but I've learned to live with generic styles and animations in college sports titles (maybe that just admits a lowering of standards).

Another negative is the commentary. Although they have 2 broadcast crews, the commentary for both is repetitive. Given that then maybe it really is a saving grace they have two announcing crews.

If you are fan of college basketball you owe it to yourself to at least rent this game. In my opinion playing the game is highly addictive. I've been playing on All Conference level with 20-minute halves and score for my games are in the range of 50s to 80s. I just love that. The stats for just about all categories are also more realistic than what was offered in that older game from a couple years ago. I don't know if I'll end up doing a dynasty or just use it for play now games. Because of this, I keep thinking to myself that I don't see the need to play CHOOPS 2K8 now that I have this game.
