NCAA Basketball 10 News Post

No franchise was more in need of a makeover last fall than EA's (formerly known as) March Madness series. The crescendo of the franchise's downfall came with March Madness 08, which turned out to be the equivalent of a number 16 seed after the first day of the NCAA Tournament -- routed by a vastly superior opponent and lucky to even have been invited to the big dance. Thankfully, EA listened to the criticism leveled at the March Madness series and decided to start from scratch. The result was NCAA Basketball 09.

NCAA Basketball 09 corrected many of the nagging issues from the March Madness series and implemented a core experience that could be built upon in future iterations of the series. While the game was ultimately crippled by some annoying bugs (for example, playing zone against the CPU would force an ungodly amount of turnovers) and a lackluster dynasty mode, the overall game was a very solid Freshman effort by EA. 2008 marked the year that the developers at EA once again made their college basketball offering relevant.

And now with the first week of college basketball upon us, it is only natural that EA has released NCAA Basketball 10. Touting revolutionary television presentation, an all-new motion offense mechanic and yearly team and player "dynamic" updates, NCAA Basketball 10 is ready to up the tempo and try to run all other 2009 hoops competition out of the gym.

So is the game ready to ascend to the level of a UNC, UCLA and Michigan State, or is NCAA 10's bubble going to burst well before March?

Now you've sold the game and from what i'm freading it's the same stuff that you hyped up about Live 10 until the flaws showed up later.

And by the way why would i have a hidden agenda about this game?

I was excited as hell to use this game for things i couldn't do with NBA Live but i have a hidden agenda LOL..
I wasn't referring to you having a hidden agenda, I was talking about me (or anyone else who's enjoying the game so far) being seen as having a hidden agenda because it seems like everyone bashes video games these days and the only reason people like games are because...

1) They're trying to justify their purchase
2) They're a fanboy
3) They've got some hidden agenda
4) They're forcing themselves to like a crappy game.

No one on OS can like a game anymore for the sake of enjoyment, there's always a "real reason" according to the detractors of a game.

I didn't hype up Live, I just pointed out the positives and the negatives and like many others the positives were really overwhelming off the bat. It was a good game initially and then the warts became more evident as time went on - am I at fault for that some how? How were us 2K transplants suppose to know that DNA/tendecies were a disaster? Or that the patch would do equal harm and good? I'm always honest and don't try to back something just because I bought it, I was critical of Live after a while and sold it.

I like NCAA right now, I know there are shortcomings - a lot of them, and as I stated in my blog I'm trying to limit my excitement after what I went through with Live and to see how myself and everyone else feels in month or two. But reading this review you'd think the game was horrible and made no improvements. And it also didn't mention a single thing related to actual basketball strategy which for me is a big part of any game.

This game obviously didn't get enough resources, but made this game a big step over '09. Plus they revolutionized sports gaming with broadcast integration.

If you haven't played the retail version then how can you agree with the review? You don't know the differences. Not trying to say you shouldn't believe that this game isn't very good, but that doesn't mean this game is trash for the rest of us. This game is better than CH 2K8 IMHO (because of the gameplay). It might be opposite for you but that's cool. I just don't see how you can say there was no improvement.
For the last time I don't play College Hoops people....I've never played College Hoops in my life. I can't compaire this game to any other college game because I've never played any other college games.

Based on the demo which i did play and my past experiences with EA's basketball games I don't really have to play the Final version of this game to make a personal decision. Sometimes when you've played a series long enough you already have an idea of how it will play and what to expect even before the Final product is finished.

There are things based on the demo version i played and the reviews that I've read about the final version that tells me if something is subpar it's subpar plain and simple. If they created a patch to fix some of these flaws that I saw even in the DEMO that still apperantly made it into the Final version then maybe it's worth purchasing down the road for me........

But right now why would i disagree with the review when i was seeing all the same problems in the DEMO a few weeks ago. I highly doubt the gameplay is that much drastic from the DEMO in short amount of time.

I disagree about review scores having to somehow "matchup" with last years score. Each game should be judged on it's individual merit, and then assigned a score. I'd say the score sounds fair (having not played it).

The demo of`NCAA 10 is 100% better than the full version of NCAA 09. With that said, how does this get a lower score than lasts years game??

# 45 jyoung @ 11/20/09 06:23 PM
I think a lot of you guys will come back and agree with the score once the "new game smell" starts to wear off.

With the offline dynasty being so dull and no online dynasty to speak of, there's just not a whole lot in this game to keep you playing long term.

The reason people still play College Hoops 2K8 is because of its excellent dynasty mode, and this game, sad as it is, just can't match up.

Fair enough but you me ehh

I don't care who makes the damn game i just want great gameplay and some damn sliders i can rock.

All i'm saying is I kinda forced myself to enjoy Live 10 and didn't want to force myself to enjoy NCAA 10 especially since it appears to be Live 10 all over again just with college teams.

MY experience with the Demo is basically what I've been reading in these reviews of the final version.

Now i've tried to keep up with your post and Jskywalker post becuase i know you guys play both EA and 2K games so there is NO Fanboyism being involved. I'll continue to monitor you guys thoughts and opinions for about 2 weeks since i know sometimes it takes that long to get a sound opinion on the game.

But again just from the demo and the reviews it does appear to be NBA Live College Basketball with less ability to EDIT gameplay

Also, I'm not a huge dyansty NUT in any game so that has no baring on my decision. I would have loved for them to include the ability to play any game though because i had intentions on doing some great rosters with this game but the gameplay alone was still avg IMO

Could not agree with you more. However, it seems that Playmaker is hold a grudge against EA as of late.

I love the presentation. I actually think the CBS commentators do a very good job with this being their first year on here. But the dynasty lacks to much for me to keep playing this game.

I get the feeling that the presentation on here was somewhat of a trial run for the bigger titles (Madden,NCAA FB). Because there really isn't much more to this game to me.

I still think I may have to get this game the impressions thread has me sold.

How about this guys

This isnt about a 2k fanboy, Playmakers, or anyone in particular.

If someone thinks a game isnt up to par they arent a fanboy, they just think it isnt up to par.

That said, STOP making this thread about any particular poster and focus on the review itself.

The review was overly harsh and I gave my reason, however we have people coming on here and talking about the review and the retail version when they have only played the demo. I was NOT calling Playmaker a fanboy. sorry if I was derailing the tread.

Different people reviewed the game, and you can't expect a person to change his score to match up with a review from the year before just to make it look all in line.

Just to be clear, I wasn't referring to other publications etc., I was simply talking about the OS review this year compared to last year's.

I know. My post was in direct response to jira2004 who said that people couldn't handle the truth.

better than college hoops and I'd give it about an 8 or so thus far. too harsh on this game.

# 58 ELDoro @ 11/20/09 10:39 PM
I agree with a 6.0 on this game. Highly disappointed....I'll give it a little more of a chance but I think I'll probably be pulling back out my CH 2k8.

# 59 Tomba @ 11/20/09 10:47 PM
First time I've probably not agreed with a review on this site. I must be seeing a different game. 09 was bad this games a great step towards what we saw in Live 10. This game has the same feel and fun factor as another great ncaa basketball game of the past. Ch2k2.

I love the fact that this games presentation coupled with it's fairly decent animation set and framerate being fairly decent. not to mention that graphically it's better in some cases then NBA live 10.

Trust me Tomba's picky but a 6 this is not. last year? yeah this year? no...sorry
