NCAA Basketball 10 News Post

No franchise was more in need of a makeover last fall than EA's (formerly known as) March Madness series. The crescendo of the franchise's downfall came with March Madness 08, which turned out to be the equivalent of a number 16 seed after the first day of the NCAA Tournament -- routed by a vastly superior opponent and lucky to even have been invited to the big dance. Thankfully, EA listened to the criticism leveled at the March Madness series and decided to start from scratch. The result was NCAA Basketball 09.

NCAA Basketball 09 corrected many of the nagging issues from the March Madness series and implemented a core experience that could be built upon in future iterations of the series. While the game was ultimately crippled by some annoying bugs (for example, playing zone against the CPU would force an ungodly amount of turnovers) and a lackluster dynasty mode, the overall game was a very solid Freshman effort by EA. 2008 marked the year that the developers at EA once again made their college basketball offering relevant.

And now with the first week of college basketball upon us, it is only natural that EA has released NCAA Basketball 10. Touting revolutionary television presentation, an all-new motion offense mechanic and yearly team and player "dynamic" updates, NCAA Basketball 10 is ready to up the tempo and try to run all other 2009 hoops competition out of the gym.

So is the game ready to ascend to the level of a UNC, UCLA and Michigan State, or is NCAA 10's bubble going to burst well before March?

Sounds like a mixed bag. Maybe I'll give it a rent but it sounds like I'm probably just going to stick to 2k8 and hope NCAA 11 takes another step forward.

I do think that those who pass on this game simply due to one review score are going to be missing out. While I don't deny the negatives mentioned in the article, it does seem that the things this game does right were severely overshadowed by the things that it doesn't do so well. I just feel that the review should've given more credit to the game for what it improved upon from last year's installment.

In any event, very well written review Chris. It is refreshing to see an explanation for why you didn't like/enjoy certain aspects of the game, instead of saying, "I didn't like ______", "_______ was bad/terrible", etc.., and leaving it at that.

Oh and I have to give props to someone that references the player sizes from the old Nintendo hockey game. LOL

Don't base your opinions off the review of one person. Well written it may be; however, there were many positives not touched on and the negatives were really drilled home. The impressions thread should be a good resource to get a good idea of what you can expect from this game. I will say it again. Last years game got a seven. How could it regress to a six when the game is better in every category?

authentic schedules are included in this years game as well. They will be in the first update Tuesday as opposed to a patch

I think people are just trying be nice about the situation. It's the only college basketball game around so it appears some might be just forcing themselves top enjoy this game just like some of us are forcing ourselves to enjoy Live 10.

I really didn't see any improvement in the demo when compaired to NCAA 09

It seems like they slapped some boosted up presentation into the game and called it NCAA 10.................

The player models looked like hulk hogan as i pointed out about the demo. They think all college kids are bodybuilders or what.....

It's sad that you have to edit the appearance of 1000's of players just make PG's look different from C's and PF's. 2 years ago every player was too skinny and now that are all Karl Malone. That's EA for you they only know how to do things one way there is never a middle ground with them.

I was hoping to take better advantage of this game since it didn't have all the screwy DNA crap that Live was using but it appears this game is no better and I won't be missing anything for the 2nd straight year without a college game.

Pick up and play is probably the best thing I got from this review. If you just what to have fun for about 1-2 months before things start to turn you off.

I've seen 4 reviews not just this one that all pretty much say the same thing about this game.

This review just happens to give the game it's lowest score 6.0 OUCH!

But all the others have the game rated avg at best 7.0

It's like deja vu the past few years reading this stuff.

I respect your opinion..but I couldn't disagree more. I loathed NCAA 09 after a short while - so I have no bias towards that game. This game is night and day compared to that.

This game deserved a better score than 6. I would say at least 7.5.

# 29 gdav125 @ 11/20/09 04:47 PM
6! Wow that's low. This game is far and away better than last years. I think too many people are afraid of giving EA props for actually doing a decent/solid job on improving this game. This gets a 6 because the ball goes through the backboard, but NCAA FB gets a higher score and the football doesn't even spiral? I traded that hot garbage in for NCAA BB 10 and I'm glad I did. Sorry, but IMO the negatives just don't bogg the game down as much people want to believe it does. Most people I know and have seen talk about this game may not love it, but they are definitely enjoying it. I know I am.

First, you need to play the retail. Secondly, are you kidding? I really think you need to put 09 back in and play a full game, then play 10 and rethink that statement.

09 is bad, really bad, in comparison to 10.

You've gotta be the most negative person on OS my dude. This game isn't all-time great, not even close, and I'm passionate about sports gaming as well like you but jesus, it ain't that serious. Do you have this drab of an outlook on everything in life? I feel like you need to get out in the sunshine, find someone to give you a hug and have a beer.

And the whole "people must be forcing themselves to like X game" is so played out and childish. "Being nice about the situation"? Really? People always acting like if you enjoy a game you either have a hidden agenda or you're forcing yourself to like a game.

I was going to post along the same line that dude needs to play the game first

I think it is a fair review. People who purchased the game will obviously be more sensitive about the review. I played it at a friends house, just didn't feel like it was worth 60 bucks. Much improved over 09, but that doesn't make it a good game. I wish I could enjoy it as much as some of you guys are because college basketball is my favorite sport. Just my opinion.

no game is worth $60, Im tired of hearing that rebuttal

Just had to get your two cents in, I see. How about, "I didn't feel it was worth my money"?

2k fansboys?

LOL

Some of us were actually EA fanboys. Just because we don't consider the game worth a purchase doesn't mean we are 2K fanboys.

Maybe we are just basketball fanboys and the product doesn't appear to be worth the price

Didn't you hype up Live 10 for about 2-3 weeks?

Now you've sold the game and from what i'm reading it's the same stuff that you hyped up about Live 10 until the flaws showed up later.

And by the way why would i have a hidden agenda about this game?

I was excited as hell to use this game for things i couldn't do with NBA Live but i have a hidden agenda LOL..

Don't get upset with me because these reviews are exposing the game for what it is average at best. If you enjoy it then so be it hopefully you'll enjoy it all year and not just for 2 months

chill, if you check out the first page comments they mostly were people who prefer the college 2k8 . Everyone gets so sensitive. me personally i never played 2k8 it very well be a good game i never knocked the game , but for what ever reason they make it clear that they are going back to college 2k8.
I'm not getting into it with anyone about what game is better all i know is when i get this game i'm getting because i want to and not because of a review. chill no need to get all upset people in the end its just a game

I'm not upset just stating some of us are not 2K fansboys

In fact I'm like you I've never played any 2K college B-Ball game EVER!

That's why I'm so upset with this game because it was MY ONLY COLLEGE B-BALL game that I've ever played for years and the DEMO and reviews are exactly what I was seeing in this game myself.

Which was very dissapointing for me.

Some guys might feel I'm being too harsh on this product but when you see shiiit that keeps happening for years without improvement you get fed up at some point.

Now some these 2K guys might be playing this game for the 1st or 2nd time and it might be NEW AND FRESH to them so it's all good.

But to me it's the SAME OL SHIIIT!

i respectfully disagree. the way this game improved on gameplay in 1 year is great. It's the same as Live's gameplay without the annoying DNA crap. I'm not a college basketball dynasty nut, so the amazing presentation and great gameplay makes this a must-buy. How can you say they put no effort into this game? This game obviously didn't get enough resources, but made this game a big step over '09. Plus they revolutionized sports gaming with broadcast integration.

If you haven't played the retail version then how can you agree with the review? You don't know the differences. Not trying to say you shouldn't believe that this game isn't very good, but that doesn't mean this game is trash for the rest of us. This game is better than CH 2K8 IMHO (because of the gameplay). It might be opposite for you but that's cool. I just don't see how you can say there was no improvement.
