What is going on? Who is testing these things? How can they not see things like this and missing numbers on helmets? I remember either last year or the year before they patched it and the end zones got all screwed up.
I am pretty sure that it was done to stop "big" plays(to help bad pursuit). I was playing my friend last night and we saw it at least 7 different times. It is pathetic to watch it in the break away action cam because it basically humps the screen back and forth as the camera angle jumps in and out during the frame rate change. It makes players who are obviously faster then the defense move like Olinemen and allows the defense to catch up and stop them.

I agree totally, if it's a fix, then it's a horrible one, and tells us one of three things.

a) They couldn't adequately fix pursuit in the time frame, and it's temporary.

b) They don't really know how to fix pursuit, and that's what we are going to get.

c) It's unintentional, and was a result of other changes in patch #1 (given the history of extremely inefficient QA testing, highly plausible)

Let's hope it's c) and will go away with patch #2.

I guess I'm in the minority if I like how the game plays after the patch. It's not perfect but I can live with the issues. *shrug*

So, after reading most of the patch #1 Impression thread now...
Alot of mixed results, but from what I can tell, it has some major flaws inside the patch, making the game worse in some areas.
Only major things I see that I would like is the no holding on FGs, and toe dragging catches. Oh ya, pursuit angles as well, which I keep reading isn't really fixed anyway.

Should I DL the patch or not?? I finished first season in my Redskins chise. Finished 10-6, having to win @ SD in my final game to make the playoffs(won by going for 2pts and getting it in final seconds 36-35 Final score!)... Beat the Bears in the wildcard fairly easily, and need to play Giants in divisional, who I lost to twice in the reg season.

My point is... After playing the entire season, tweaking my sliders and coming up with my own set of "house rules" which include:
1.) Never throw RB screen passes
2.) If I intercept a pass, Don't use the turbo button when running so I rarely run them back for TDs.

I think there is something else but can't remember... those are the main two tho. I have great results, and really no complaints... I think I'll just keep going the way I am now, especially since I finally have a good working slider set for myself. My question is tho, can I DL a roster update without getting the patch??? If not, then oh well, I'll do without the roster update, but it would be nice to be able to get it without the patch.

That "hitch" you guys mention is almost certainly fatigue-related, because it doesn't happen in Practice mode. And we know they bumped up the effect of fatigue for this patch.

Just saying...and it doesn't happen only to the ballcarrier.

Edit: That's EXACTLY what it is...turned fatigue off and just did a breakaway from the 2 yard line (2 controllers, defense did FG Block and WR had a free run). No hitch at all.

# 407 Glorious Arc @ 09/29/09 11:06 PM
I have yet to see it happen with players who were in pursuit of my player. So far, it has only happened when I was 15-20 yards ahead of the defense with Chris Johnson(he was still fast enough to score several times) It happened on a kick return when I used the Eagles(demps FS) he had 25 yards on the return team and it was like he got a flat tire and the CBs came flying by and tackled me at the 20 yard line(starting kick off btw). It has happened on a big pass play where a LB was covering Jordy Nelson and was in man(compeltely out of coverage) and it was a streak route. The moment he got the ball he started the lag step.

It happened a couple of other times with my friend who was playing against me in each match but I dont recall those specific moments(besides the action camera where it bouced in and out)

If it was fatigue, then why have I only seen it happen to my(or my friend's) ball carrier when they have a huge lead on the other team?

If it is real time fatigue...Why not tell us they were adding it in? It is a major change(bigger then the likes of the slant route with the HBs) that they didnt bother to tell us was happening.

Okay....what team, players and play are you using to see the hitch in practice mode? Because I don't see it at all. I can even do the old "run circles around the defense" thing for a while (with a fast WR), which should NEVER happen with that hitch. If they were really getting slowed down in real-time, I would not be able to pull that off.

Default All-Pro settings, btw.

madden 10= shtty boo boo

this game is a slight inch better than 09 but i expect greatness from the only football game out.

the flat coverage on this game is horrible, i can hit the flats ANYTIME!!!! they are ALWAYS and i mean ALWAYS open. i hate how EA comes out with the patches to help tune the game but instead make it worse.

I feel like this game is getting more and more like head coach. EA, how hard can it be to make a game where strategy(playcalling, subs, gameplan, etc) + user ability are equally important???? the user ability in this game has been greatly diminished and all these OS bums like it because they have no stick!!!

I am absolutely raw at this game!! just as good if not better than i was on 09, and i making a lot $ playing this game, but i am slowly becoming fed up with it and ready to hang it up.

thank god for NBA 2k10

Anyway, just for you, I loaded it up AGAIN. Practice mode. Jags. Picked some plays. Ran some random plays.....and voila, it happens. But, I only did it for you. Only for you! Because I want to make sure I'm not going crazy. So, I tested some more...strictly FOR YOU. And. It. Happens. Still.

I notice it more frequently after a much needed cut. But, the point is: IT HAPPENS. Again, without you asking for more proof, this post would not have been possible. So, thanks. I did it all for you! FOR. YOU.

Just kidding. But, yeah, it happens. And it's one of the oddest things I've ever seen, in a videogame. Play it in slow motion, and watch as you freeze, but everyone else keeps moving. Crazy. Again, the same effect of Speed Threshold, now forced upon us. If you don't see it, consider yourself very lucky, sir. Go out, and play the lotto.
Two things:

1) The sarcastic tone really wasn't necessary. I was simply trying to do the exact same thing you're doing, so that I might see the same thing as you. Because we clearly aren't on the same page here.

2) You might want to pick your shots a little better. It may not be the greatest video quality (well, that's pretty much a guarantee), but I can take video of what I'm seeing in order to prove myself. Can you?

For starters (and I do have a webcam so I'm not limited to these highlights) watch this:

EA Sports: Madden NFL 10 Video Highlight

Keep an eye on Broncos CB #21 Andre' Goodman - he's the key in showing what's happening. Goodman, a 92 SPD, is actually keeping up with (and IMO slightly gaining on) 99 SPD Hester!

How? It's no speed cheat - Hester was fatigued to yellow from the play I ran before this - the opening kickoff return. He didn't field the ball, but I kept the return going long enough that he had to run around for a bit. That set up the play you see above - a simple slant where Hester beat Goodman and took off.

From the time they fall in line to about the 45 or so, Goodman isn't missing a step with Hester, and, like I said, I think he actually gains a step or so. But things change after that - Goodman slows down, and really bottoms out around the time Hester hits the 15. Meanwhile, that's Champ Bailey blowing by him in the end.

Goodman. Is. Getting. Tired. Just like Hester.

You can see the setting is all-pro (not custom) if you view the video's main page - there is no hocus-pocus going on here. There is one thing I did for the purposes of showing the effect though - turned up fatigue to 100. You won't normally see totally fresh players getting gassed halfway down the field like this, but it was the only way I could show the effect in one play.

Anyone care to comment on this? Believe me, this is not easy to duplicate (I'm tired of running FG Safe Man), so I hope someone at least takes notice.

Edit: One other thing to add: If you look REALLY close, it seems like Goodman's running animation changes just slightly around where he hits the 50. Before that he's more upright, but after he kind of looks like he's plodding. Watch for his head and arms to drop just slightly - just before he starts slowing down.

The hitch thing does happen. I dont have a webcam so I cant capture it, but as I've said before, its usually seen during run plays in the open field and kickoff returns. Its like a freeze in motion, and it looks terrible.

Care to explain why? The issue here is that people think only the ballcarrier is getting tired (or "hitching"), is it not? This doesn't show otherwise?

# 413 RogueHominid @ 09/30/09 10:34 AM
I'm really liking the tuning of the run blocking. The adjustments to pursuit on outside runs and the blocking in general were redone very nicely. The run game is more viable now without being cheesy good.

Great job!

Bcruise, whats up brotha? How are you liking Madden?

I'm sad to report that the hitch thing is there. I thought it wasn't but I finally ran in to it twice.

Both times it was on long plays, can't remember if they were runs or passes or running after a pass or whatever. I just know I was really surprised to see it because I thought it didn't exist.

It's not a gamekiller for me though. It doesn't alter the game in any way as far as I can tell and it doesn't happen often enough to bother me.

I'm still really liking Madden though. I'm ready to start my Franchise.

Bcruise, talk to me about your sliders and what settings you are using for franchise.

Autmn, I'm really dying to start a franchise. What sliders have you settled on?

People, don't worry about the gameplay that took a turn for worse after 1st patch. After all the complaining from you guys, Ian & Co. will fix those issues that the 1st patch caused with the 2nd patch.

# 417 xxzone @ 09/30/09 11:48 PM
How do I challenge a play now? After the patch the option is no longer under coaching options. There was a fumble and an incomplete catch I tried to challenge, and the option wasn't there at all.

Sorry if it's been asked, I searched for 5 minutes.

To say the gameplay took a turn for the worse, is all a matter of opinion.

Really? The more likely scenerio is that Ian and Co will make things even worse with the 2nd patch then they did with the 1st!
