Madden 2010 News Post

September 9, 2009 – This season marks the 50th season for the eight original American Football League (AFL) teams, and EA SPORTS is commemorating the celebration with the release of the AFL Legacy Pack game add-on for Madden NFL 10.

Available on September 24th, the comprehensive add-on brings the heritage of the AFL to Madden NFL 10 with all-new 1960’s-style presentation elements. Referees don the orange striped AFL uniforms, official AFL markings and logos decorate the field, and more – all while featuring a retro football card-like user interface and classic film grain broadcast camera.

The eight original AFL teams will be represented by name and wear their historic uniforms, including the Buffalo Bills, Denver Broncos, Kansas City Chiefs (as the Dallas Texans), New England Patriots (as the Boston Patriots), New York Jets (as the Titans of New York), Oakland Raiders, San Diego Chargers and Tennessee Titans (as the Houston Oilers).

The 15 AFL Legacy Game matchups during the 2009 NFL regular season will include the Legacy Pack presentation in the offline Franchise mode, as well as during the Play Now, and Superstar modes. Historic AFL uniforms can be selected in any mode – offline or online!

Relive some of the greatest moments in AFL history with all-new Madden Moments, which include additional Xbox 360 achievements and PS3 trophies.

The AFL Legacy Pack game add-on for Madden NFL 10 will be available on September 24th for 560 Microsoft Points and $6.99 on the PSN Store.

The award-winning Madden NFL 10, the highest rated version ever for the Xbox 360 and PLAYSTATION 3, is in stores now.

I wouldn't go as far to say that.. This is actually pretty good DLC and the NFL Europe (I think that's what it was called) closed down maybe 2 years ago along with the AFL that folded this offseason.

For all those complaining about paying.... have you not noticed what the NFL is doing?

The entire AFL thing is a big sales gimmick.

They've made it a point to show as many commercials as they can during the games about the NFL Legacy line and all of the stuff you can buy with the old logos on them. Charging for AFL logos/content on Madden fits in quite nicely with all the other crap the NFL is selling.

They could have paid tribute to the AFL with nothing more than jersey patches and no one would have complained. Instead, they go out and stick old logos on everything they can think of to try to bring in even more money. For all we know, the NFL could have told EA to make the content separate after it had originally been planned to be on disc.

A patch that adds superbowl and playoff art to the field in online franchise is not as important to me, or many many others here I'm sure, as fixing the flat patterns, franchise stats, pursuit angles, toe drag logic, challenges, etc. that are being fixed in a patch that is being worked on now.

Answer all your questions?

Not really. But let me clarify:
1) Thanks for the quote - but that's not what I was looking for. I was looking for where EA said it waould be free and/or included at no charge. Maybe that wasn't clear. The fact that they announced this in March doesn't connect with me as to why this should be free.
2) That's cool that you can do uniform edits on the PC and all - but again...until you can document what the console process is - it's not proof. Not to mention the color filter, presentation add ons, madden moments and extra achievements. You don't know long those take.
3) The DLC comes out on 9/22. The 1st patch was submitted weeks ago. One does not take away from the other. I still don't get your point. More to the fact - if the DLC content was announced in March - it REALLY doesn't take away from the patch even more so.

But we can argue that stuff all day. At the end of the day - it really is unimportant. The first patch has already been completed and it's beyond EA's control when it will be released. They confirmed on this site - and is usual practice - they wait on the second patch to see what the overwhelming concerns of the community are before deciding what goes into it. The DLC doesn't take away from that at all.

If you are unhappy with the game - so be it. But DLC such as this in NO way takes away and or prevents the improvements to the game.

Damn...after watching last night's games and seeing the jerseys, I cannot wait until the 24th, so that I can download these badboys.

Those Raider AFL jerseys, were sick! Unfortunately, we're still the Raiders underneath them.

Also my comments about the patch related to the DLC is in direct correlation to the post that was asked to me "How do I know this was being worked on before a patch?". It is pretty easy to realize that this was being worked on prior to the patch that will be fixing AI, flats passing, pursuit angles, and plenty of other game killing bugs that make the gameplay ridiculously unrealistic. I KNOW this because this is coming out prior to the patch.
Congratulations.

Now goodbye... and have a good one...

And there you have it.

Everything is about making money. That's the whole point of a business.

The sooner people realize it, the sooner threads like this will be cut in a third with much less complaining.

Same here. As a Raiders fan, this is a must buy for me.

The whole point of a long running successful business is to make money and keep the customer coming back and feel appreciated.

Charging for something like this is cutting out the 2nd half of that.

The sooner you realize that "the whole point of a business" is not nickel and diming your repeated customers for products that were provided to them previously for free MANY times, the sooner we won't have to hear that cop out excuse.

Who says making the customer "feel appreciated" is part of EA's business plan regarding Madden? That has no bearing on the issue whatsoever.

As far as "coming back" is concered, I don't think that is a problem they've had to deal with in quite some time. Madden is one of EA's golden eggs with the long running success it's had.

You say it's nickel and diming and MS has set the precedence that that is the direction the gaming industry is headed. I find the eagerness to lay the blame at EA's feet almost comical.

I love how one person will post that this DLC is nothing but "overlays" and "just a topical change without adding new gameplay" all the while saying it's "nickel and diming". If it's just a topical change then why does it bother people so much? If it isn't that important or doesn't change gameplay then don't purchase it and move on.

It's just new overlays anyway, right?

I wonder if they plan on dropping the patch and the DLC on the same day?

Those were hot jerseys, great game vs SD.

# 312 Jet Sufferer @ 09/17/09 12:42 AM
Yes, I'm psychic. I predicted they would package the AFL uniforms that we "SEE ON SUNDAY" with something and make us pay for it. Sorry EA, NO SALE! Not that it matters, a million kids parents will buy it.

# 313 Jet Sufferer @ 09/17/09 12:47 AM
Also, how about the cover story of them "not knowing" about the AFL 50th anniversary until late in the development cycle? You think this package was just dreamed up recently???? Really?

If you see it on Sunday, we'll make you pay for it.

EA Sports - It's in the game, for a price.

Uniform whore rant over. This uniform guy will have to pass on principle.

# 314 Bump101 @ 09/17/09 12:57 AM
They're actually making us pay for this? Wow.

I guess when you have a exclusive license and is the only company that's allowed to make a NFL video game, you can charge us for anything.

But seriously I guess this is a cool addition for the cats that don't mind paying for stuff like this.

# 315 McDaniels is a Jerk @ 09/17/09 02:40 AM
Thanks alot EA, I already shore out enough money to you jerks. The NFL annouced the Legacy Uniforms way before this game was released. The uniforms were on the Yahoo Blog Shutdown Corner in like March or April. Sounds to me like this was planned the whole way!

I beg to differ on the nobody would complain part. Throwbacks are a cool way to pay homage to previous years of a franchise.

As a Raiders fan, I need to get this because I'm sick of having 3 options for Raiders uniforms in every freaking football game (except the 2K Series). I love those Raiders throwbacks, and I plan on buying this. As a matter of fact, I'm buying a replica, too.

# 317 LionsFanNJ @ 09/17/09 03:55 AM
I noticed some AFL related achievements in the list for the PS3 tonight.

# 318 countryboy @ 09/17/09 08:10 AM
Dang it!...I was thinking the AFL pack came out today, but its next Thursday. I want my Raiders' AFL jerseys....

No, as has been stated many times, it is jerseys that are being worn by teams in their regular season games this year. It should be in the game for free like their normal game day jerseys are. I should be able to replicate the NFL season with the software I bought on Madden 2010 release day. I shouldn't have to pay $7 to get the uniforms. If they want to charge for everything else other than the uniforms that's fine with me, I won't buy it. But I should get uniforms that are being worn during the respective teams' regular season games.

You ask me what is the point of a business. I responded with ... well ran long standing businesses make their bank on correct market pricing, a well made product, and they give value to their customer that makes the customer feel appreciated and like they are getting their money's worth. EA has not done this in anyway and are now charging well above market value for this product (unis, madden moments, oldtime filter). That is how it has bearing on this issue, because you brought it up.

And obviously customers coming back is not their concern, which is why they are charging for things that should be options in the game disc. They know you HAVE to come back which is why they bought the license in the first place. However now you see their sales are declining which means some people aren't buying into the BS they spew year after year. I might have to join them next year the way this is going...
