NBA Live 10 News Post

EA has posted another NBA Live 10 blog. This one covers, shooting the rock. Screenshots and 10 minute gameplay video included.

"Hi again Live fans. Well, this is the last gameplay blog you guys will see before the NBA Live 10 demo hits PSN and XBL next week. I’m really looking forward to seeing all your homemade videos and reading your feedback. Keep in mind that the demo isn’t final code, so it’s really just a taste of what you’ll see in the full game. Take my word for it, one of the real strengths of Live this year is playing with and against all the different players and teams, which unfortunately, you won’t be able to do in the demo. But I’ll let Novell speak in more detail on just how deep the AI upgrade was this year and how we took player/team differentiation to the next level with Dynamic DNA. I know you sim-heads out there are gonna love it, so expect that blog in the near future.

But with the demo coming soon, we thought it would be good to give you one more tutorial to help you hit the ground running with some of the new gameplay mechanics. And today we’ll talk about everybody’s favorite subject: shooting the basketball."

Thanks for the videos, Mike.

The audio really is amazing, as well as the crowd. I absolutely hated the crowd in previous Live's because they animated at like 15 FPS.

I love how the audio ramps up during the Utah possession @ 3:25. I also loved the crowd reaction to the loose ball @ 4:57.

Nice rotation by Kenyon on the Oden dunk, he still got banged on but at least he was there.

Boozer yelps on his contested layup. These kind of sounds need to be in the game, nice to hear that.

Bargnani checking his eye, that was pretty cool.

I didn't really see anything glaring so to speak, there was some sliding but nothing extreme. Also noticed that a lot of the layups in the video were setup with a hopstep.

Otherwise the game looks solid. I'm not going to make any declarations of greatness or perfection, I'll wait until I play the game to see if those kind of statements are warranted.

Thanks again.

The new approach to audio has payed off big time. It feels like a totally new atmosphere. The crowd reacted at the right times.

I think it's a wrap...almost. I am falling off my fence toward this game, period. I wanted to feel like I wanted to buy 2K10 AND Live 10, this year, but I don't think that's gunna be happening for the very reason that this game sounds and looks RIDICULOUS!!!!
I can't even stomach playing the 2K10 Combine demo (although I will do so in a moment - lol) after re-reading Czar's preview for about the 12th time then getting to read about the shooting and check out these vids. This game sounds like it's about to turn basketball console gaming on it's ear...but I still need to play the demo. Thursday can't get here fast enough. Simply amazing.

I can't stop watching these videos. Every time i see them i try to find some little detail to point out. It sucks that everyone beat me to it and damn near examined the video to a T. oh and on the Bobcats being a D-League team. That's the funniest **** i have heard all day.

Vids look pretty dang good to me. There's still something that keeps it from looking super fluid like 2k's vids do, I think it's something as minute as transition animations, like picking the transition from dribbling the ball to passing it. But aside from that, it looks heaps improved over former Lives.

The crowd sounds terrific. I like the "branching" animations where players fall down after some shots.

The real time injuries are great too. Especially the minor ones like the poke in the eye or a roll of the ankle, ones that don't stop play.

Don't hurt yourself, bruh. 2K doesn't look THAT good. LOTS of hitches, clicking and popping in the transition animations. That's how their engine is even in the MLB and the NHL series'. Actually, I've always thought it was worse but tolerated it in NBA2K9.

Oh, that's just crazy talk, my dude. You're the type of people Jay and Kanye are talkin' bout in Jay's new song - Haaaterrs. Lol.

Great vids, Live is my game this year, this video only cemented that fact.

My only gripe was the play call screen, that thing took up half the screen!

Can't wait for this game.

3 things....

1) The control in Live (ie the first vid) is amazing. No version of live since the ps2 days had anywhere near this amount of control as seen in vid # 1.

2) As a Raptor fan, it wouldn't be right if I didn't nitpick at the Raptors/Jazz vid...but.......(note for the Live 11 audio department) never in the history of the Toronto Raptors (well, i'm like 95% sure of this) has a chant "Go Raptors Go" ever happened. It has and always will be "Let's Go Raptors"........LOL. Not a big deal but I'm just pointing it out.

3) Can someone from the EA side of things please clarify the DEMO release date for the PS3 ?? Sept 10th or 17th ???

Anyways, I thought the gameplay vid was amazing and being an avid Live player since waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay back (Lakers vs Celtics),, bought a Ps2 to play Live 2001 and even purchased and played Live 07 on the 360. These vids show that the Live series has finally got the attention to detail to become a premiere sports game. Even compared to Live 09, Live 10 looks light years ahead of 09.

Great work !

In one word, that was: IMPRESSIVE.

Granted I don't understand why some of you are creaming your pants already without getting your hands on the game, but those videos were still really nice.

I can say, without a doubt in my mind, that was the best looking Madison Square Garden I have ever seen in any basketball video game. Oh and they had Al chucking just about every opportunity he got, like he does in real life

From all hands-on impressions I've read, the game feels better than it looks, so I'm not worried about that aspect.

Live 09 felt solid, it's the animations and suction that ruined the game for most, and both of these problems seem to be improved a lot for Live 10.

And I agree with you about MSG, Live really seems to have killed it with the colors and lighting of all the arenas this year which is great to see.

POSITIVES:
-Live looks very real now. At times during the 10 min 5v5 gameplay I thought I was actually watching a real NBA footage.
Example: Utah vs Toronto clip.
-The animations , cross overs , shots look better. I wasn't cringing as much as previous Live installments. The layups don't look too great though.
-The praying manthis like movements have been toned down.
- I like how when a player gets injured the player limps and stuff . Thing I didn't like is that Derozan limped down the court then all of a sudden he's playing on the defensive end like nothing happened.
-Like how players fight for position on the post.
-The stadium's sound amazing. Like how they were chanting DEFENSE during that UTAH/TORONTO clip.

NEGATIVES:
-The passing sucks. The way they hand it off to each other , the way they pass to each other overall. Just looks bad. The A.I. player fails to disrupt a pass that's right in front of him.
For example starting 0:59 , Wade + Marshall bounce pass to each other right through two defenders. Those two defenders got their pixels disrespected.
-The shot blocking does not look good at all .
So many instances where defenders just swing at nothing. Like they swing the opposite way the ball is going .
- One thing that kills some of the immersion for me is that players receive passes without even looking. Just watch any fastbreaks in that video and you'll see what i'm talking about. Players just stare straight into oblivion on fastbreaks.
- The commentary is bad. Marv just doesn't seem right.
I laughed how Marv Knew Derozon's injury before it even occurred.
-There's no umph on those rims when a player dunks . The net animations are lacking.

Overall I applaud the devs for improving Live but i'm still not sold on buying it. I'll probably rent it.
