the play call screen in general is a big mess, last years was dope, with replays, stats and all that. idk why they changed it

Aside from the speed, I think that the arc is better, or the Qb leads the receiver more, or the defense can't jumd super high while running full sprint after a receiver, or a combination of the three, but it is possible, for the first tim since 07, to really throw passes over defenders heads. For that alone I think it's better.

There also seems to be more momentum on the game, which is a good thing. Safeties don't seem like they can cover from sideline to sideline like they used, which again, is a good thing.

I've only played about 4 games though so it bears watching to see if these things are really in the game, or if the defenders just didin't dial up the right swat animation that will still allow them to cover receivers after being beaten by several steps.
Yeah, I think the speed change is really throwing a lot of people off. I, too, noticed that the ball hangs quite a bit more, but honestly, I'm not sure that isn't more realistic. Madden has typically handled this better than NCAA, but in both games, the ball seems to get there in no time at all.

Also, the lower camera angle (and ball indicator) allow you to actually see the ball in the air, which wasn't always possible before.

I haven't played Madden much so excuse my ignorance, but is there a way to strafe with a defender in this game? I played a couple of games yesterday & like what I saw but very frustrated that there were no tips on how to do certain things in the game.

Thanks

That has always been annoying. The other thing I hate is when the RB goes out on a screen to the right, I throw the ball and he runs back to the left to catch it and it it takes him quite a few steps after catching it, to turn back around and go back right. Needless to say, the defense tackles you in soon after while you get a glimpse of all the open field you would have had if the game handled certain things properly.

Because simple is just about always better.

On the 360, you hold down the left trigger I believe. I'm assuming it is L2 on the PS3.

Where did you go to download the 1 min qtr version? Just the Game Marketplace/New Arrivals? From there it only let me load the Gamestop one I already downloaded.

The reciever should go up to catch the ball on the same side he's looking at it approach him as hes running his route. Besides that the game is amazing. The annimations are out of this world. Running the ball actually feels real. The new juke stick is awsome. if your holding down sprint and mover the right analog left or right the runner does a quick juke burst and if your not holding sprint he does the jump hop juke like from the pass years, so thats more realistic...

I just dont understand how they can make such an amazing game and mess up on something so little like that.
Please someone from EA fix this catch annimation before launch, it almost ruins the game
I'm not quite sure I follow what you mean about the WR animation.

Don't know what system you have but on PS3 it's L2. Probably is the same comparable button on 360.

I'll give that a try as I was trying to use the R-Trigger. (360)

If I could just get confirmation that the pass rush (user) is much better in the retail version.......then I would be genuinely pumped about this game.

Slow is too slow. I put Fitz on fly routes upfield and he was getting about 30 yards downfield in ~4.4-4.5 seconds.

Initially I was extremely cynical about the demo because EA was forcing people to pay to pre-order the game to the ACTUAL demo. Then when I realized that I'm going to be gone on the 14th anyways and wouldn't be able to buy the game that day I decided to pre-order it and get it shipped to my house.

The REAL demo between the Steelers and the Cardinals is extremely promising though not perfect. Running this year actually can march you down the field. You can't throw deep every play successfully, rather mixing up short and deep passes is an effective way of moving the ball.

One silly thing that happened which I was both glad about and PISSED about way a field goal block. I tried to do a line drive from about 50 yards away and it got blocked which is the first I've seen in years. However, James Harrison who blocked it also made an amazing one arm grab where he knocked down the ball and it stuck to his hand. Not so realistic, hopefully this will be fixed for the retail version or at least patched afterward. Could be a big flaw.

Overall, a solid demo but I'm still angry that they don't release a more playable demo for public download. Maybe next year if you have to pay for the REAL demo allow some online demo play where you get to play against another person having the option of one team or another. Any thoughts?

That happened to me with Boldin. He attempted to catch a pass over his shoulders and Polamalu nailed him with a tackle low, and up ended Boldin and went out of bounds. I thought that was a sick animation and should only happen every so often.

I agree, I didn't like last year's at all. I thought it removed you from the action and was clunky. This year's is fine, although I would like the yardage markers on the play selection windows.

I can't speak for anyone else, but I've managed to play several games in one sitting without getting tired. So I don't think it's an issue.

I had a gripe about that too. For some who were on the fence, like me, needed to know if this game was as promising as advertised. And having one person get more time with demo than someone else, especially one minute quarters is just silly. But we all understand why they did it.

Player models are good and bad this year. In 09 Jay Ratliff was too big, and this year he looks a lot better

I like the new play-call screen. I've always disliked play-call screens that take up the entire screen and block me from what's going on.
