Enjoyed the demo. It started kind of weird with the Steelers players being on the Cardinals sideline for the flyover...but whatever.

I played as the Cardinals on All-Pro and the Steelers dominated me taking a 14-0 lead into the final 3 minutes.

Long story short: I get the ball, drive down the field and score a touchdown to make the score 14-6 with 2:40 to play after inexplicably missing the extra point.

I kick off, Steelers get the ball and a first down then I stop them to force a punt with just 1 minute to go.

I take the ball on a 7 play 80 yard drive and on the game's final play I find Larry Fitzgerald in the back of the endzone but it looks to be out of bounds. To my amazement, the referees discuss it and in the end signal TOUCHDOWN! which made the score 14-12.

Now it comes down to the 2-point conversion. I find Beannie Wells wide open in the flat and he would walk into the endzone...that's if he catches it. He dropped it and immediately Steelers FS Ryan Clark (my former high school starting secondary mate) puts his arms in the air and Tomlin and crew storm the field after winning the "Super Bowl."

What a heck of a way to re-start my Madden career after about a 5 year layoff. Despite the loss, I had a blast.

Played through the GS demo last night, or rather ran plays and watched the action. I have to say that I am impressed.

Pros-presentation is like the 2nd coming of 2k5, and that's saying something.
-Crowd noise rocks this year. Madden, to me, has always had inferior crowd noise which made it feel sterile, not this year. It absolutely rocks. Gets loud in the right moments, quiet in others.
-the kickers actually have an NFL leg this year. Neil Rackers(CPU) kicked a 56 yarder on me. Excellent!!! No more 45 yarders that fall short like other Maddens, these guys can kick it true to life.
-Speed is perfect. love the slower speed. better for cuts and running routes. mores strategy, not so much twitchy luck.
-Graphics are incredible. They got rid of that mysterious blue haze that permeated every game last year. Animations are better also.
-I saw jostling off the line on bump and run coverage, and it messed up the timing of my routes. Excellent!!!

Cons-It's not August 14th. Off to work now. More later.

Oh...One more thing - Not really feeling the beeper thing on the play clock. Players don't hear that in real life and it is just another one of those things that reminds you that you are indeed playing a video game.

Im starting to clearly see that Rmoody is just an Apex wannabe that just hates madden to hate it...for what ever reason why..I swear to god i could go take the best past madden to date, NFL2k5 or APF and have a field day on them if i were purposely hunting for glitches, bad AI logic and flaws..its not hard to find flaws in videogames..because they are just that..videogames..why cant they grasp this? It boggles my mind...to the 10th degree!!

Apex ..while i dont agree with alot of his recent videos..i think he's a cool kat ...just because he keeps it real, alot of my homeboys are like him..Rmoody comes off as a wannabe that just hates madden and will find anything possible to make it look bad...lol, i had enough of him, im not looking at his vidz no more..it was my own damn fault for peeking at his M10 vid impressions lol.

I just want to make myself clear..i dont have a problem with people nitpicking but make sure you have some legitiment gripes first..because when you start picking at a videogame for perfection..its all becomes moot and meaningless. I had a HUGE problem with the presentation in madden for years and years in here..i would b1tch about it all the time..but i knew inside this sort of thing would make a night and day difference if the dev's just focused on presentation..and it has, the demo is proof of that..b1tching about perfect AI Logic is just silly..videogames will NEVER be able to match human logic..yeah some games may have did it a bit better but its all a wash honestly..all that really matters is that we have a fun game of pigskin imho ..and M10 has delivered!
Wow. Well stated. I love when people cry about what they deem is another person crying. Glad I had to search to find it after somebody asked me why I wouldn't respond.

If you for real have issues or constructive criticism for me, why not just send a simple PM? You obviously know my name, you used it 6 times in your post.

Instead you choose to type 2 paragraphs of nonsense about me an bury it 120 pages into a thread? Lets be better than that, ok?

Maybe you don't like what me, what I have to say or how I say it, but at least be up front about.

I'm amazed at the progress EA has made. Well done Ian. I think I'll hold onto it this year.
I think the biggest difference is that they got rid of the filter from 09. I actually liked the filter and I hope someday they give us visual controls to be able to tweak these things to our liking, but for whatever reason in 10 it looks better. It just has more clarity. I'm very impressed with the visual quality of this product.

Dude it IS a video game. I know this comes as a shock, but to quote Kurt Angle "it's true." If people want real football they should join a local association and play football. Madden is a game. Yes it's great to play sim, but one has to accept there will be certain things to make the game more accessible to everyone...such as the warning as the playclock is running down.

what is the beeper sound on the playclock? I haven't heard any beeping noise, or at least I haven't noticed it

OK, Now, the demo...

First off, I want to say that I am VERY impressed. The slower, more realistic game speed is an excellent change and makes the game play out in a much more realistic manner. I played a full game (Cards/Pitt) and I saw lots of things I liked, and some things I didn't like.

Passing Game Observations:

The passing game FINALLY has made the jump that I have been waiting for. It's not totally there just yet, but it's pretty damn solid. The ball doesn't look like a cannon ball shooting through the air anymore. Wobbly passes look great and passes bounce of of receiver's hands just like they do in real life. You can now pass the ball over the middle without a super human LB jumping 5 feet to pick it off. The trajectory of the ball is very realistic now too. I threw a pass to Boldin in double coverage and it was tipped by the defender, Boldin reached for it and got a hand on it, and then Breaston lunged and caught the deflection. The entire sequence looked fantastic. I saw Roethlisberger make some overthrows and under throws. The QB movement feels much better than it looked in the videos also. Jamming a receiver at the line actually exists!!! When I pressed I saw my DB push, tug and even knock over a receiver at the line. It was awesome. Being able to throw the ball when you get hit is cool, but it always does the same bad throw. A lame duck just shoots out at a 45 degree angle and sits on the ground like a brick when it hits the ground. Hopefully this will be different in the retail version. One of the best things I saw was when throwing to the sideline either on corners or outs, the receivers now have sideline awareness and you can see them attempt to keep their feet in. It looks pretty good. It's not quite as nice as 2k's awesome sideline animations, but it's pretty sweet and looks realistic.

Player Movement:
Being the monster 2k fan that I am, player animations have always been a big deal. Everyone has been fretting over Madden's player animations and physics. I am happy to say i was pleasantly surprised. It's actually done quite well. There is still that occasional "shotgun blast to the back" tackle animation, but most of the time it looks very realistic and the gang tackling looks and feels great. The blocking and OL/DL interaction looked and felt pretty good to me also, and I could see the pocket form properly. No more running outside the pocket and throwing across the field. Admittedly, I did not see much evidence in the vids of the procedural awareness, but when playing the game it shows up quite nicely and really adds to the realism. Pretty cool. The throwing styles of the QBs is also very cool and adds a lot to the game. I did not see any "rocket catch" or "jet pack" or whatever you madden experts call it.

Miscellaneous:
Play calling seems solid and the O lineman seem to do their job the way you draw it up. Pulling guards get in proper position and running backs hot routed to stay in and block pick up blitzing defenders quite well. On defense, man coverage seems to be much better now and you can actually use it again, although I'll need to play the real game more to tell.

Conclusion:
If you are a guy like me who has played nearly every console football game over the past 25 years, you just want a great NFL game. NFL 2k5 was that game in 2004. I don't have a biased opinion towards any particular company. I just love realistic football. I've always been a harsh critic of madden over the last 6 years. Only because I want a great game. I think this game looks like it could be a real winner. It has some flaws of course, and there are a few things I wish were different, but coming from a big 2k fan like me, it's certainly looking like a solid game.
Ditto. Ian and company have won me over. Great, awesome job. I am impressed. I can't even play NCAA 2010 anymore. I'm thinking about trading it in when Madden comes out. My apologies to the NCAA development team.

We've made it this far without the beep, I think we would have been okay. The box turning red after 10 seconds was enough.

Sorry but when you are trying to make a game as life-like as possible, additions like this one are uneccessary and takes away from your goal.

no press the guide button, then go to the settings blade on the way right, the 2nd from the bottom it should be account management go there, from there 3rd from the bottom it says download history click on that & u will see everything u have ever downloaded. madden nfl 10 should be on top unless u downloaded something else after, if u got the 1 min demo also then u should see madden nfl 10 twice just re-download both of them...then go to your demo section after its done & it will be there 4 u to play

Love the demo, the final build will be even better.

Does anyone remember the pass rush video Ian made after working out the weapon curves? I though I read somewhere in this thread that those changes were not implemented into the demo build but they will be in the final build. Is this true?

I've only played the demo 2 times, but I like what I see from it. A huge plus for the slow down in gameplay. One of the things I noticed and have been waiting for on Madden for next gen is tighter controls. While not perfect, it is about time it feels like I'm not playing Blitz when running.

I was very impressed with D line play. I actually can play as a DE or DT now and enjoy it. The moves with the Right stick actually work. The QB play is a lot more fun too. Pockets develop, no more running outside the pocket and throwing at full speed across the field while jumping, lobs are actually lobbed in.

One of the most impressive plays I saw was in my first game, first drive with the Cards. I was down at the 5 yard line and had single man coverage on Fitz. I chose a fade route and after my quick 2 step drop, I throw a lob up high to Fitz. The DB turned and tried to make a play on it but Fitz properly jumped and caught the ball at its highest point for the TD. About time Madden got this right!

It's not perfect, but I'm just happy it's a step in the right direction. Tighter controls, slower speed, better o/d line play, more realistic qb play, and tackling animations have improved enough to make this feel like a step forward.

Just noticed how great fatigue is as well. I usually never sub playes out but I found myself subbing willie parker out on the regular to keep him fresh. The one time I didnt he ended up getting injured.

No kidding. I ran three straight deep passing plays. Ward and Holmes both needed to be subbed. Talk about an impact, I throw another pass to one of the subs; it deflects off his hands and into the waiting hands of a LB. I like that. Not that I threw an INT, of course, but that fatigue is real and I need to consider my plays more carefully due to it.

u know... for years, madden seemed to be obsessed with this constipated, porcelin (sp) macho idea of a player model. They seemed to have improved that a lot this year. I saw Tony Romo on the sidelines with his helmet OFF (wow), warming up for a 4th quarter drill and it was a pretty good Romo. he was smiling lol

LMAO @ This. To be honest, that's why other gaming sites look down on OS, because of a post like this.

Ian's gonna need a retirement check after this. Wow. Btw, Madden 10 is great, even on a SLOW gameplay setting.
