BCFX News Post

It's not surprising that a non-EA football game is generating a bit of intrigue and hype prior to release, but what’s unusual about Black College Football Xperience is that it has garnered some attention for the wrong reasons. Some people are not interested in what the game has to offer on the field, but instead are interested in the title of the game.

In two weeks, Operation Sports will be reviewing Nerjyzed Entertainment's Black College Football Xperience: The Doug Williams Edition for the Xbox 360. Rather than ignore this issue and let it cloud over our review, Operation Sports is here to tackle the issue head-on in this article, so that the review can be solely devoted to what’s coded into the game disc -- instead of what’s written on the game's box.

I'm sorry I debated my side of the argument ad nauseum (granted), but it is hard not to respond when I'm being quoted left and right, and being labeled as uneducated, and essentially racist. That isn't trolling, it's debate. Debates aren't always pretty, especially concerning an issue like this.

In any case, if you don't want me to respond further that is fair enough, it is certainly true that I've had my say. But I'd also appreciate if you'd also have folks stop quoting me, poking me for a response.
When you began insulting other members. Leave it alone, and others will leave you alone. And if they don't, then we will take care of that.

The game actually looks decent, though I probably won't pick it up because NCAA and Madden will take up enough of my game playing time.

I really don't care for the title though - not because I think it's racist, but because they're really only marketing the game to black people. Obviously this article was informative and explained what the game is all about, but for the average person that doesn't read OS and sees this game in the store - especially if they aren't black - it's probably not going to generate any interest for them to want to buy it. Am I wrong?

Anyway, I will wait to see some impressions of this game and if I like what I see, I may rent it. But, I have a hard time getting into any sports games that don't have a dynasty option.

Until now I wasn't aware there was any sort of controversy surrounding this game, nor do I see the reason for it-the meaning of the title should be obvious to anyone who knows anything about the sport of cfb.

Having said that, I'm going to pass. I have zero interest in the subject matter.

i think what a lot of people that feel its racist and ask where the "white" version is fail to realize the biggest (and most powerful) demographic in America is white males 18-49 (in the last census over 70% of the US identified themselves as "white"). and someone can correct me if im wrong. now as a business it makes sense to market to the biggest segment of the population.

So when EA, Sony, or Microsoft makes a game they makes it for the largest demographic, being white males (especially if were talking video games). Now some companies choose to go for a niche market because they feel they that a specific segment (nice market) can be profitable, for example when disney makes a Hanna Montana movie, they are clearly not going after white males 18-49. they are marketing to female teens.

So this game has done just that. it has found a segment of the population that was being ignored and made a product for it. So when people say "wheres the white college football game" Its EA sports NCAA.

Exactly.

Not to be a *****, but the gameplay looks horrible and it looks like it is made for the PS2. Plus, the game is going to be released soon so there is no hope for improvements. Before you say anything about me or the game, you should see the trailer and focus directly on the gameplay and the graphics.

You and YOUR little buddies have made it clear that double standard and hypocrisy are also alive and well. And for what? Because of the crimes committed against blacks well before you were likely born?

I agree Noble, this does need to be locked, because it is about to get a lot uglier around here.
They still have hate crimes against other races all the time... the KKK still exists and the affect of injustice 3 decades ago still affects the world today... The issue of race should not be brought at OS the article failed in its attempt to bring understanding between groups because at the end of the day some people's scope on things wont change. Here is something everyone should remember the things you do today effects everyones tomorrow... so if its 500 years of 2 hours ago every action has a consequence.

Maybe I'm idealistic but racism is getting better. It obviously is still a hot topic but in my short lifetime (35 years) I have seen it fade greatly. One easy measuring stick for this is being a "Black QB" in the NFL is now just a QB and it seems stupid to think otherwise.

I have two sons... 16 and 2... and I can see that all this racist back and forth should be completely dead by the time they grow up. Just imagine... my 2 year old will not know a world that did not include a black President. That's got to be a good start for his generation. Heck my older son's first girlfriend was black. Yes I'm not proud to say my grandfather would have flipped out had he been alive to see it but I did not bat an eye the first time she came over.

Here's the point. From a white guy looking forward. "Historically Black" Colleges are proud of what they have provided the black community in the past. Hence the fact they still state they are "Historically Black". I say great for them... but the time will come and soon I hope they realize they should just be a college. Keep your history and be proud of it... but move forward.

As for the title of the game. I feel the same way about it that I do the colleges using the term. It's fine now but I hope in the near future it's dropped. Not because it's a racist statement to be "Historically Black" but because it's OLD history now.

Last warning...if it has nothing to do with the game...its should not be discussed. The state of race or racism in the world has nothing to do with the game.

In a way being called a HBC is just branding the school historically just as the Ivy league schools do. Its a tradition but at no point has a those schools not allowed white students. More importantly the cry of double standard to me lets me know that people are tired of hiding how they really feel. They are tired of being politically correct and want to air their opinion and I am all for it. Kill the rooney rule stop regualtions on all minority hiring let peeple do what ever they want. Because to be honest the new PC amercia has just made alot of people angry cause they cant say out loud what they are already thinking

Didn't know this was hitting the 360. I will probably pick this up. The gameplay looks questionable, but if I recall correctly, this uses Euphoria and that's definitely worth checking out. It also couldn't hurt to play a few games to figure out who's the real HU. Hampton usually wins the game, but Howard had the better looking girls. :P

The battle of the bands component looks pretty slick.

It looks like they recycle a lot of the animations, but what game doesn't nowadays.

People STILL brining up the point of how this is racist really need to get a clue.

I don't care what this game is called, it looks awesome!

# 115 RaychelSnr @ 07/13/09 04:36 PM
Game isn't using Euphoria, I think it's built off of the unreal engine.

I think the game will be a nice alternative to NCAA 10, but I'm seriously not sure how good it can really be. We'll see.

college schools just having blacks? That is racist if anything....

Black Colleges is a short term for Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU's). other races can and do attend. Guess you didnt read the article.

# 120 computerlover @ 07/13/09 05:47 PM
ummm... for those white folks who don't know.. if you do go to a HBCU you qualify for a minority grant / scholarship.. lol.. no BS.. for real.. and also the class of 2008 morehouse college, white guy was the top grad.. and he went there because he WANTED to..

Morgan State, another HBCU has one of the top rated engineering programs on the East Coast..

Coppin State - Won the 2005 EDUCASE award for IT excellence (while i was employed there in IT btw).. and for all of you who dont know.. the previous 2 winners were PRINCETON.. and MIT..

HBCU stands for tradition and excellence. Paying homage to your history. Its whites that called them Black schools and N word schools.. not black folks..

and technically.. EVERY SCHOOL IN EASPORTS GAME is a HWCU.. but the majority doesnt have to make the distinction of color or race.. and there are some HB frats and sororities as well as HL ones and HA ones in america..

Historically we wear it as a badge of honor, not to divide but to show you today that we made it, and thrived IN SPITE of the times and circumstances. To show you that we are just like you, no different.

The guy who said about the rebel flag. once it was incorporated by racist in the 40's and 50's (because in alot of klan photos in the 20's and 30's the rebel flag is non-existant) we have no problem of you loving and celebrating your ethnicity and your southern heritage, but dont get upset when we choose not to partake.. because your history contains our misery.. When one speaks historically of State's rights n such, they speak of only one right.. the right to own people.
