NCAA FOOTBALL 10 DEMO AVAILABLE TODAY

Fans Awaiting the Release of NCAA Football 10
Create Over 80,000 Custom Teams via TeamBuilder

June 18, 2009 –Electronic Arts is proud to announce that the demo of NCAA Football 10 is available today for Xbox 360 and PS3. Fans who download the free demo will experience all-new gameplay features including:
  • Defensive Keys—Prior to the snap during the pre-play, hold the left trigger while pressing the analog stick in the direction you think will stop the run. If you think the offense will pass the ball, press upward. Or, you can press the icon associated with a receiver (X, Y, A, B, LB, RB) to spotlight that individual. This will focus the defense on making sure that the chosen offensive player does not make a play.
  • Defensive Player Assist—By holding A (on 360) or X (on PS3) on defense your player will be put under CPU control so you have time to read a play and decide the best course of action.
  • Enhanced Defensive Lineman Moves—With new animations, take control of your defensive linemen using the right stick to fight pass blocks and put pressure on the quarterback.
  • Gameplanning—There are six defensive and five offensive individual game planning options, or you can globally set your offense and defense. Each option changes the way your team will perform. For example, be aggressive and try and strip the ball every time and you run the risk of getting more facemask penalties.
  • Player Lock—Player lock allows you to lock on to a specific player in order to control that position during the play. When you lock on you'll get a whole new camera angle that puts you closer to the action.
  • Set Up Plays—Set up plays allows you to run one play in order to set up another. When picking a play, you will notice that some plays have a chain link between them, which indicates that one play can set up the other. Every time you use one particular play throughout the game, you are setting up for the play that is chain linked to it. Once the play is 100% set up (as shown in your playbook), the defense is at its highest likelihood to fall for that play action.
  • 1000 new animations like throw out of a sack, new shotgun snaps/hand-offs, WR/DB interactions, tackles, double team run blocks, catches, broken tackles, and slipping in bad weather.

I'm not going to sugar coat it, the defensive pass rush is busted in this demo! I played 2 (one All American & one Heisman) games and tracked pressure on passes as follows....(Note: I also played 2 games prior to tracking the stats below and I would say the results were similiar.)

Here is the definition of my DL pressure stats....

NP = No effective pass rush, there was a minimum of 4 seconds to throw the ball and in most cases much more than that.
TQ = The QB passed the ball so quick I couldn't get an accurate measure of pressure.
DP = Decent pressure. This would equate to an average pass rush where the QB should throw the ball in 3 seconds or less.
GP = Good pass rush. They are coming fast so you better hang on and get the ball out of your hands.

Here are the results of 32 pass plays (both human & CPU.) When I was on offense I took a normal drop and stood stationary in the pocket as long as possible until throwing the ball. When I was on defense I rushed 4 with no blitzing and the computer controlled all defensive players.

NP = 22
TQ = 5 (all were from the CPU)
DP = 3
GP = 2

Notes:

When I was on offense I usually waited 6-8 seconds before throwing the ball - it's that bad.

On one of the plays that had decent pressure a defensive lineman came charging in and missed the tackle - although I was standing there stationary - LOL. I then stood there a good 3 seconds before he recovered and got back in the play.

Another decent pressure play came on a stunt. I know Madden fans are complaining about stunts not being effective. On this particular play it worked great, the DL came flying around and pounded up the middle flushing the QB out of the pocket.

On another play the CPU had a 3rd and goal at the 1 yard line. They called a pass and I counted 12 seconds before a DL got to him! It was bizarre, the QB rolled out 10 yards to the right and stopped. For about 6 seconds he could've easily walked into the end zone because there was nobody in front of him that could got there in time. Then, 3 of my defensive players swarmed in and stood about 2 yards into the end zone waiting for him to pass or stop him from running in. So for about 6 seconds there was this hilarious 1 yard standoff until finally my DL broke through and caught up to him from behind. I wish I could post the video because everyone here would be like WTF was that???

- The camera and cut scenes are twitchy and jerky. At times it's like my HDTV was vibrating like a rumble pad. Very annoying!
- Crowds look bad.

+ Commentary is ok but nothing special
+ Player lock rocks

Also I stripped the ball form the punt returner on a punt and returned it for a TD. I mention this just in case others experience it as well. Hopefully it's not something that will occur often.

I've seen enough - it's ok but not a 'must buy' for me unless they can at least fix the DL pressure issue. People have been harping on that for the last year, can it be that hard to fix?

I've been having fun with him. had a few great non-screen play sacks with player lock on him. love the DL moves on the right thumbsticks.

No auto-pass on the demo for those coach mode players out there. I like the return of uniform option when you start a game. You can now change the color of the socks and shoes now with the uniforms.

I saw one 3-4 times in the first demo game I played. It was the one where a guy is crossing right to left, and a smaller guy (usually DB?) kinda throws him, one-armed, to the ground.. Nice momentum thing if it was 1-2 times a game (8 minute quarters) but wouldn't wanna see it once a drive.

Just play a few games with my boy and we love the game the game play strategy is on point it's bring out the coach in you. I also like that it's available after each play.

1. The defender tackles the ball carrier from behind, and the defender proceeds to drag him about 2 - 3 yards toward the endzone
2. The defender meets the ballcarrier head on, and they do that twist thing... i dont really know how to say it... but the defender ends up on top with the ball carriers legs end up facing right.
3. I cant think of the 3rd cause its been about 10 minutes

the tackle I've seen the most is the one where the defender slings the ball carrier down on the ground.

Is the Universal game speed slowed down like it has been in Madden?

# 311 Tengo Juego @ 06/18/09 04:59 PM
I've seen the sling tackle that solidice mentioned about 15 times(no exaggeration) now through 3 games. WAAAY too much.

I really want to see some good wrap up tackles. But that never happens.

There are replays actually. Tebow (Me) got hurt while throwing and they showed a replay of how it happened right after..

These are the link plays.. The percents have got to be taken out though.. maybe just leave a colored bar that fills up (if they even keep the feature)

No not even.. The game feels faster than 09 imo actually.

I think so but then again I am not as critical as others.

really? it feels slightly slower to me. not a huge difference like the speed change in Madden 10, but the faster players don't feel juiced like in '09 because of the crazy speed curve is now gone.

Yep, that was the big one. This is fixed in the retail game.

It seems to me that horse-collar-ish tackle animations (where the defender slings the ballcarrier to the ground by the shoulders) get played with a fair amount of frequency, particularly in the open field. Not really bothersome to me, but more animation variety is always welcome.

Forgot to mention this, but I hate the way it transitions when an interception occurs.

This game really needs presentation help. Teams running on the field etc like in Madden this year. Band is cool, but have them make a tunnel, and show the players running out ro the fight song. I can't imagine it's too hard.

Anyone else hear the new band music in the game? I am hearing new cadences and other new band music inbetween plays.

QB sneak animation, over the sholder catches and bad shotgun snaps are awesome!! Good work on that.

Anyone know if there are bad punt snaps or field goal snaps? I would love to see this as well next year if it's not in. Field goal kicking is too easy, make it harder.. maybe make the arrow move like in 2K?

Before I played I was pretty let down watching the videos, but I like the game. I want more, but I'm excited to play some dynasty.

I have had one pass interference penalty against the D though I see a few times where the WR is "pushed" by the DB well after 5 yards thus not allowing the WR to complete his route effectively.

Any pass interference calls for anyone?

This is pretty much the only time I hate having a PS3. Having to wait for demos is a pain in the ***.
