I just went back to Advanced clubs because I was all over the course using Expert clubs in the Weekly Golf Channel Tournament at Bethpage in TOUR Pro with green grids off....as soon as XBox Live is back up, I hope to have a comparison with the final 2 rounds versus my +12 aggregate score for the first 2 rounds...very humbling experience.

Divot, quick feedback on your suggestion.... WOW! I'm totally hooked now. I've got expert clubs across the board and the game now feels even better. The mid to long irons now exhibit a more reasonable trajectory, the 3 Wood is also much better. I would up with: Driver - 18%, Fairway Woods - 20%, Irons - 19%, Wedges - 24%. 17% seems to be the jumping off point for me right now.

I'm finding that I am being rewarded for following a more realistic tempo. If you're nearly perfectly straight with the stick, it lets you get away with quick twitches, but if you're offline a bit, it seems to punish you more severely. Overall, I just feel that I don't have to power through the ball to hit a pro trajectory shot.

Using my new clubs and settings, I played a PGA Season round at Hazeltine, in Pro difficulty with Precision putting on, meter off, and naturally, boost, post shot spin, and putt preview off. I pushed my tee shot into a fairway side bunker and had to punch out under a tree. I got twitchy on the bunker punch shot and found my way to the next one up the right side. I then reminded myself to get back in tempo. I put the 7-iron bunker shot on the front of the green and three putted (nothing new there).

As the round progessed, I got more confident with my swing, but I still wound up missing 5 fairways, one of them nearly OB. I also missed 6 greens, 2 of them badly. I wound up shooting a 69, in spite of two double bogies. I just felt so good to have my sense of rhythm called upon to make this work, even though in reality, you can get away without tempo if you have machine like precision. That will never be a problem for me!

Suffice it to say, this round I just played at Hazeline with this new setup is one I'll never forget... it had a number of euphoric - oh wow! - moments!

I play the more difficult challenges in Amateur. I go to the pro shop and find the clubs I want, then I see what challenges need to be beaten to unlock the club or club set. There are some second level challenges the unlock some of the expert clubs. I don't particularly like the looks of the Callaway Squareway driver and 3 wood I'e got, but they came by virtue of easy Tournament Challenge wins. I'll get something that's more pleasing to my eye as I progress.

Oh, I started of my second round in the Twin Cities tournament at Hazeltine by pushing my approach shot OB. I also had a 5-putt triple bogey from 23 feet! I wound up shooting a second straight 69, but missed the cut by 3 shots (it came at -9). The winner took this tournament at -35 (253). This was the lowest 72 hole score I've seen yet in my season by 7 shots.

I paid 180 MS points to unlock my Expert clubs. 180 for the driver/fairway woods/irons/wedges. Had over 4000 MS points and said "shat the hell"....

Baa,

I am strictly a TOUR Pro player, but for Tournament Challenge, I am playing Amateur just so I can get through this part of the game and build my character so I can get on with the offline Season mode and online tourneys. I tried playing TOUR Pro and at the rate I was finishing challenges, I would not get done til TW11 came out....using the putt preview helps as well.

All that said, I have never, ever sucked this bad at videogame golf. Another reason I absolutely love the game this year.

My rules are as follows: tour pro difficulty level, black tees, hard/expert pin placements, windy or higher (never calm).
Agree with all but your "locked crap" comment. In playing Tournament Challenge, every course unlocks with the first challenge being completed which are the easiest challenge. While like you, I do NOT like having courses locked, they sure did make the process of unlocking them much easier than in years past....

This unlocking stuff is for the birds. I'm about halfway through the tournament challenges, and the only reason I made it that far is with Xbox Live being down all day for maintenance.

I drop down to pro to get through them, and they get really tedious. My big problem with them is that the whole object is to play 3-4 holes of nearly perfect golf. One little miss and you have to restart.

That's the strategy I'm taking. I was playing the challenges in Pro, with the boost, spin, and putt preview off, but it was progressing slowly. The only prayer I have of beating the Hard challenge at Bethpage Black is in Amateur, although I've failed to do it so far even at that.

You've hit the nail on the head. They are tedious. I just don't have the patience for some of the challenges.

I'm surprised you're even playing the game with some of your earlier rants lol. Do you enjoy it for the most part?

So I just bought TW10 for my new PS3 and when I boot it up my console automatically switches out of the HD display setting. It doesn't do this for any of my other games and I can't seem to fix it. I need help BIG time. I'm relatively new on the PS3 so I know I'm missing something. PM me if you have a solution. Thanks much in advance.

Sim though the rest of the tournaments and starting with the next year might work.

I gave the game a rental. So far, I don't think it's worth any more than that.

Definitely have a right to your opinion, but what is it that you were looking for in this game? If you are looking for the simulation side of golf, then spend more time with it and tune your clubs, get advanced or expert clubs, don't get your attributes to high and play in some of the hardest conditions and you will likely find it extremely challenging. If you have done all that and don't think the game is worth it, then you are obviously a much better player than myself and many others.

I agree that the game is lacking in some areas, but I have been very pleased with it considering I haven't been able to leave Links2004 since, well, 2004.

On a side note, I literally have only rented a TW game here and there since Links2004 and now that I actually am playing TW, I find the swing stick to be about 10x more sensitive than Links in terms of swing path. Links I could easily hit 100% of the fairways. With TW I am not even close to that. I am sure I will get better but I will just continue to tune clubs if I need to.

I'm now having to tune my clubs' sweetspot back up because I can't say on the course at this point. The Club Tuner is a terrific tool, maybe the best feature ever in a video golf game.
Pretty much sums it up for me....best and most challenging TW console version I have ever played. I can't seem to put it down....

Maybe I need to give it more time, but so far it doesn't seem like it is going to hold my attention any longer than any other previous TW game I've played.

Don't get me wrong, they've made some nice improvements. And I'm definitely not saying it is too easy for me. But IMO, there's not enough newness to the game to justify a purchase.

Is there full stats and is it actually a real season mode or do they give you stupid objectives and dont' allow you to play the majors right away unless you get some stupid ranking like the Wii.
The Sesaon/Career mode is pretty deep in terms of stats. There are no objectives like you are describing for the Wii. It's basically the same setup that previous TW games for PS2/Xbox/PS3/360 have had. I haven't played the Wii version, but from what you said, the Wii version is a lot different than the 360/PS3 Season/Career mode.

One note though...it seems as though CPU golfers in the Season/Career mode are shooting lower-than-normal scores for all versions of TW 10.

I have seen four-round scores in the -30 range and have had AI golfers shoot rounds as low as 58 on a course that has a total par of 70. I play on the 360.

I'm thinking of getting the ps3 version. I have the wii game but can't get on the tv because of the kids. My ps3 is hooked up to the monitor though so i'll be fine there.

How long does a round take as theres no save ?

Are the cpu scores realistic as i'll play mostly offline career ?

I don't want rubberband ai like the wii version or the cpu getting scores in the 50's all the time.

I understand 100%. I played GTA 2 and GTA 3 to death. Didn't get San Andreas but got GTA4 and while it seemed to be a huge improvement in a lot of areas, I couldn't get into it. Just felt like the same ol', same ol'. With TW, I haven't played one since the xbox days so it is still new to me. So I get what you are saying. Some games just have a way of doing that especially when the core gameplay hasn't been changed much.

No, not if you take the practice drills that Hank Haney advises after some Tournament Challenges and after ALL PGA TOUR Season events....
