Re: Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 10 Impressions (PS3, 360)

Has anyone noticed how the weather is almost overdone in this game? It works fine when it's there, I'm just speaking about the frequency of the bad weather conditions. It's almost as if EA made bad weather conditions more frequent just to show off the new weather features. I swear almost every golf outing is either pouring rain or gusting winds in my face at 30+ mph. I am playing on Tour Pro, but that shouldn't have any bearing on the weather conditions, even if they do make it more difficult.

Everything else about this game is great, in my opinion. I really just don't like the frequency of poor weather conditions.

I absolutely love the game but I agree that the weather is a bit overdone. I also wish EA would have put some rain gear on the golfers and crowd when it is flat out pouring. My golfer looks silly with his polo shirt when it is pouring on the course. LOL!!!

I searched here but didn't find an answer, can you change the swing to the right thumb stick?

John,

Go get yourself some Expert clubs and let us know if this is still true. The jump from Advanced to Expert is a bitch in hitting the ball straight even if you tune the clubs to be as forgiving as possible....

You know what? I think I subconsciously recognized that and have adapted to it with my Driver (that's the only Expert club I currently have)! I'm hitting my driver straighter and with more confidence than any of my other clubs. I got to thinking about what you said and I realize that I do swing the driver with a slower tempo!

Your comment prompted me to think... why do I swing my expert driver with a slower tempo? It's because my senses tell me I can swing it slower and still get the ball to follow a trajectory that looks and even feels more natural. I feel sort of like a I really have to accelerate through the ball with my mid to long irons and particularly my fairway woods to get a trajectory that looks and feels anything close to natural. I really spray the fairway woods also.

Now here's the kicker... my tendency is move the stick from just past 6:00 to just past 12:00 on the swing feedback meter. There's a line that I occasionally cross, especially when I'm starting a new round, where that little "push" sends my drive on a flat out push path to the right... quite often OB threatening right. The meter shows that I gave it the input to do that and I can even somehow feel it... it's an awesome sensation when this happens because it doesn't feel like a random error the game has decided to throw at me as an equalizer.

I'm really glad you brought this up Tim, it really got the wheels turning! Now I've got to get expert clubs across the board. (shhhhh... don't tell anyone but I'm going to back my difficulty down to Amateur with putt preview, power boost and post shot spin so I can win the Tournament Challenges necessary to make this happen )

I just went back to Advanced clubs because I was all over the course using Expert clubs in the Weekly Golf Channel Tournament at Bethpage in TOUR Pro with green grids off....as soon as XBox Live is back up, I hope to have a comparison with the final 2 rounds versus my +12 aggregate score for the first 2 rounds...very humbling experience.

Re: Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 10 Impressions (PS3, 360)

Divot, quick feedback on your suggestion.... WOW! I'm totally hooked now. I've got expert clubs across the board and the game now feels even better. The mid to long irons now exhibit a more reasonable trajectory, the 3 Wood is also much better. I would up with: Driver - 18%, Fairway Woods - 20%, Irons - 19%, Wedges - 24%. 17% seems to be the jumping off point for me right now.

I'm finding that I am being rewarded for following a more realistic tempo. If you're nearly perfectly straight with the stick, it lets you get away with quick twitches, but if you're offline a bit, it seems to punish you more severely. Overall, I just feel that I don't have to power through the ball to hit a pro trajectory shot.

Using my new clubs and settings, I played a PGA Season round at Hazeltine, in Pro difficulty with Precision putting on, meter off, and naturally, boost, post shot spin, and putt preview off. I pushed my tee shot into a fairway side bunker and had to punch out under a tree. I got twitchy on the bunker punch shot and found my way to the next one up the right side. I then reminded myself to get back in tempo. I put the 7-iron bunker shot on the front of the green and three putted (nothing new there).

As the round progessed, I got more confident with my swing, but I still wound up missing 5 fairways, one of them nearly OB. I also missed 6 greens, 2 of them badly. I wound up shooting a 69, in spite of two double bogies. I just felt so good to have my sense of rhythm called upon to make this work, even though in reality, you can get away without tempo if you have machine like precision. That will never be a problem for me!

Suffice it to say, this round I just played at Hazeline with this new setup is one I'll never forget... it had a number of euphoric - oh wow! - moments!
