Madden 2010 News Post

Look at Maximum tackle and the suddenness in which the tackler arrives and the wealth of options in this system. The tackler comes to tackle not engage in a line dance. I know I don't know all the features to Pro Tak, when it comes to the actual tackle, but when you see this video, of ESPN NFL 2K5 tackle options you will understand why I critisize the grabbing for grabbing sake.

In 2k5 you could initiate the tackle with a wrap or a hit. I also like which wasn't mentioned in the video, you can choose whether or not you should wrap high or low by flicking the right stick up for high wrap tackle and flicking down for low wrap tackle and the next defender(s) attacks the ball carrier.

I'm not hating, I actually like the idea, I just want it to be aggressive and violent as it should be its a collision sport not contact and racing up to a ball carrier just to hold onto him just for looks, just doesn't look good.

Ok guys..I posted a thread about sock length when we first got a pic showing the Bills. It looked like there socks had a blue ring at the bottom and there was alot more red showing making the sock look longer. Someone said that it was probably the angle. I wasn't sure until now. I thin Ian has just shown us that we can move the sock color up or down to show more of a color. That sock length is down to his ankle on #53 and in other clips they are pulled up higher on the same player.

Nah, sorry man. That was my photoshop, showing how awesome it'd look if we could adjust the socks.

ahh..dude you had me! I wish they would let us do that then cause it looks awsome. Did you mess with the cleats too cause there are a couple different styles on the Broncos players?

Very nice work!

Actually I think his name might actualyl say C. Bailey because Boss Bailey (his brother) plays LB for them last time I checked. I could be wrong, can a Broncos fan enlighten me?

Well about time. Took them 5yrs but they might have finally caught up to 2k. I can finally say that Madden looks to have stepped there game up this year.

lol, thanks. I didn't do anything with the cleats, just a quick sock job late last night. The first bronco from the left is default, the second has lower socks and the third how low socks that come up over the knee.

It really does make a difference though.

lol it's two years old. And unlicensed. If that's the case then it's a sad because it should've long been a distant memory given the situation. Really it's going to be unfair to Madden to directly compare the games; sort of like a 25yr-old Lebron bragging that he beat a 45yr-old Michael Jordan. He's supposed to. But if he didn't, it'd look bad on LeBron. And if it was a jab at Ortiz I don't understand that either - people seem to forget every next gen EA sports game struggled in their first 1-2 next gen iterations, not just Madden. And they all were working from "new technology". I don't think that was a David Ortiz decision to go that route/start from scratch; I'd assume it was whoever was over top of them that made the decision to develop the games in that manner. I'm not a Ortiz apologist by any stretch but Madden was the one EA sports title that was a launch game. So he didn't even benefit from additional development time that the others did (all just imo). Even the devs themselves have said in retrospect it would've been smarter to take the route The Show and NBA2K did in terms of upgrading.

As far as control goes, we won't know until we play M10 but I don't think you should have total control of the player. I understand they want to get away from the tugboat-like responsiveness of Madden last gen, but the answer isn't giving players total control of their movement imo. It's not good to be locked into overly drawn out animations anymore than it is to be able to have lightning-quick responsiveness to move in any direction. People should have to judiciously use turbo/acceleration and have to pay for attempting to over-pursue, or run as fast as you can and change direction. We'll see how it plays out though

Anyone still know if this is the marketing stuff ian said was not finished yet? If so i dont think we should be so excited as its gonna be better!

I see no problem with saying the graphical update from 09 to 10 blows me away...

There is quite a few scenes throughout this video that make you second guess whether it's a real life shot or a clip of a video game.

Great work. Only thing I saw need for criticism was the problem with the pro-tak situation and a DB making an unrealistic change in direction by stopping on a dime and floating towards the movement of the ball carrier.

Yeah some clips looked amazing.. Especially the Giants clip at the end.. Just wow, almost life like..

I still see some rough spots but overall a very, very nice clip... I Just hope every other play isn't a gang tackle.. Anything overdone becomes boring, no matter how cool.

Ian we've been waiting for Madden to regain its glory and it looks like you and your team are going to make it happen. Keep up the great work .

I totally agree with you on this. At this point we don't know how it will feel, play or look until we see some time with the game. When Ian was talking in lenght about how 2k used longer running animations and how thats why they were able to acheive the look that they have. There has to be a balance like with everything. I do not want total control as if we make a move or a twitch and its instant. I think there has to be a decision made with what you want to do with your player and if you make a bad decision you can't just recover because you have ultimate control. I hope they are somewhere in the middle.

100% agree, too much control over player movement is the reason madden plays the way it does now. There needs to be momentum animations that joystick movement cannot overcome, until the animation completes. How can I effectively juke a defender if he can change direction in an instant. I want to be able to get past a defender untouched if I have the agility rating to do so as well as being able to break tackles like Brandon Jacobs. Same for route running and Quarterback play, momentum needs to be implemented.

# 353 Droopy03 @ 05/12/09 03:32 PM
Ian will there be a thread of how pro-tak will work towards the running game as far as double teams?

# 354 bogart69 @ 05/12/09 03:35 PM
Good points ^^^ I was playing '08 last night and I caught a slant and had the stick angled away from the defender. Because of the lack of momentum my player made an impossible cut and broke free for a score.. Hopefully these little things will be added to make the game truly sim like..

Thats was an impressive video. well done

# 356 Gossennator @ 05/12/09 03:49 PM
I've never been more excited for Madden since 2005, and it was all because of that video. Pro-Tak looks great and I cant wait to play it. Another thing that really stuck out for me was the lighting..it looks damn near perfect. I think the Madden team has done a great job with the game so far, and they continue to impress as we get closer to the release. I cant wait until some of the bigger features are announced.

# 357 TreyIM2 @ 05/12/09 04:01 PM
Damn. I missed out on this vid last night and I was on here, too, late last night...
Anyway, all I have to say is that this looks great, Ian. U know I bounce between this site and your blogs on EA. The more footage of the game and info I can get just adds to the fervor within me for this game. I will be on line for the Madden Midnight Madness on release morning, no question.

# 358 CapnKill @ 05/12/09 04:15 PM
Looks great, but I'd really love to see this animation gone. No HB would hold the ball like that in one hand like a spray paint can, even while being tackled... quite the opposite they would bring it close to protect it. It kinda looks like the ball is glued to his hand and he's trying to shake it off...
