Madden 2010 News Post

Look at Maximum tackle and the suddenness in which the tackler arrives and the wealth of options in this system. The tackler comes to tackle not engage in a line dance. I know I don't know all the features to Pro Tak, when it comes to the actual tackle, but when you see this video, of ESPN NFL 2K5 tackle options you will understand why I critisize the grabbing for grabbing sake.

In 2k5 you could initiate the tackle with a wrap or a hit. I also like which wasn't mentioned in the video, you can choose whether or not you should wrap high or low by flicking the right stick up for high wrap tackle and flicking down for low wrap tackle and the next defender(s) attacks the ball carrier.

I'm not hating, I actually like the idea, I just want it to be aggressive and violent as it should be its a collision sport not contact and racing up to a ball carrier just to hold onto him just for looks, just doesn't look good.

That screen looks REAL!

By the way, is this video the documentary that has been advertised on the official madden 10 site? Or can we expect more Madden goodness today?

I didn't at first but then I watched it a couple times (yes, already bored at work) and I liked how he pivoted off the correct foot (outside since he was cutting inside) and got lower for the juke. He also didn't slide 5 yds or gain a lot of yards because of the juke (a problem with all EA fball games in the past).

The only 2 things I don't really like are (nitpicking here):

1) When Thomas Jones jukes he holds the ball really high and loose. Most NFL RB's, especially good one's hold the ball tighter in the middle of the field because defenders looking for the strip can be coming from all angles.

2) For Madden to take the next step they're going to need different running styles. Maurice Jones-Drew is running way to upright in the clip. There might not be another runner in the league that gets lower than him. Partly due to his height but his center of gravity is unreal as evidenced by when he put Lights Out on his a**. Just like NBA games have signature shots RB's are going to need more unique running styles. Upright backs like Jacobs should feel and run completely different than Jones-Drew.

Overall, I'm impressed by the technology and I loved the Hightower broken tackle the most (The 2nd one). It looked very realistic IMO.

Ian, the best part of that clip was your UT shirt........lol seriously awesome clip, this might be the year that Madden will trump NCAA for me.

I wrote this down at CD, Ray Lewis for some reason was the only guy last year with his initial on his jersey, the nfl did change the rule that you don't need initials anymore on the backs of the jerseys because the number is what differentiates the player.

Pre-order is complete. Ian, from all the things that I have read over the last several months on this board your team has attempted to deliver what will undoubtedly be the best video game representation of the NFL to date. Thanks so much.

All of the HB special moves thus far look strange, like they are floating. Think it's a momentum issue where there's not proper footwork in place and a slow / down speed up in relation to the animation that is occuring.

That looked REAL.
Yeah! I froze it there to take a screenshot. i noticed the same thing. And the shoes subtly add to the overall realism of the shot. Also the blur/depth of field...

Pretty screenshots have always been a staple of Madden. If this were Myst, Madden would rock. It's the movement (animations/rendering) that needs more life. The screenshots have always been top notch.

Can someone put the video on youtube plz?

As far as Philly goes, the Andrews brothers are apparently just going with the family name without first initials in there first season together:
http://www.bleedinggreennation.com/p...d-more-punters
Jamaal Jackson and DeSean Jackson also had no first initial on their jerseys last year. And I think its safe to say that this practice goes for the whole team so Mike Gibson and Brandon Gibson also shouldn't have an initial. Although, I doubt both of those players will make it into Madden anyway.

Also couldn't find anything "official" on it but here is something on it from espn page 2 stating that "the rules requiring same-surnamed teammates to wear first initials, and same-surnamed and -initialed players to wear their full names, were scrapped prior to the start of last season (2007):

I mentioned that I saw what seemed to be better running animations. But I wasn't 100% sure. I'm glad someone clarified for me though.

He looks MUCH less stiff than in previous Maddens.

And I'm still thrilled about the FEET CHOPPING at the end of the video. It really looks real having the RB start to get wrapped up, then start chopping his feet quickly and with power to continue trying to drive forward.

Yep me too! I saw this and paused for a minute. It was the closest I've seen from the new stuff that actually made me squint and wonder if this was real or not.

Ian, you want positive feedback? THIS! More THIS! That is all.

# 319 bxgoods @ 05/12/09 12:22 PM
The Jacobs run at the end made my jaw drop, that looked so real.
