Madden 2010 News Post

Peter Moore has posted the first screenshot of Madden NFL 10.

"While we have a number of announcements and updates to come over the next several weeks leading up to next month's NFL Draft, I'm excited to debut the first screenshot from this year's game right here this week. The old adage says, "A picture is worth a thousand words", and that is certainly true in this fantastic shot. How many improvements can you pick out? The Madden dev team will call each one out in their blog later this week."

I think I see a marker top left of the AZ REs (#55) helmet. But its not sitting straight, it looks like its in the process of being moved.

I think the hand thing is kind of a product of the oversized ball. They tried to correct the wrong problem... so you get those long, skinny fingers as they try to pull them over the laces.

The grip looks fine to me... its just not on the seams where it should be.

But- Ian, congratulations, You've laid the 06 "Artists Concept" Trailer to rest.
Except the concept trailers had a strong head coaching presence with Andy Reid. Right now we've instead got three+ guys who appear to be coaches of some sort, standing around and we don't know who they are, lol.

3.) Interaction with the O-Line adn D-Line.

4.) Accurate Sidelines.

5.) Depth of Field

6.) Improved Lighting effects.
And the QB body models have be toned down. No more QBs with the 24 inch pytons brother!

The football doesnt look like a watermelon either.

Really glad to see the ability to have these in the game.

LOL it looks like he killed somebody with his bare hands and screaming about it. I am happy for primary and secondary gloves. Does that carry over to the other equipment and shoes?

The towel is fully articulated and animating based on the movement of the player.

I agree the ball is still slightly big but we actually even reduced it in size almost 10% this year. Here it is in Madden NFL 09:

(sorry, couldn't find a pro comparison image)

If we make it too much smaller it means we'll have to re-do nearly all of our ball-carrying animations (catches, run cycles, etc) because the ball will no longer be placed correctly. That is obviously a tough sell - to spend hundreds of hours tweaking animation data just to decrease the ball size by 3%. I just wish it had been right in the first place! Argh! Look at the size of it in Madden 06!

I'll see what we can do to shrink it just a tad bit more though.

I dunno... kinda looks painted on to me as well. Not trying to be a downer, dude, there's too much good about this picture to be discouraged by any one detail, but I really think that's a paint job.

EDIT: I stand corrected. Thanks Ian, that's awesome.

When I saw it happen in 2K5 (and I've only seen it twice), I lost it. This is the sort of immersion the game is missing. Besides, I;m sure you could skip it if you wanted, but I wouldn't personally since I'd like to be immersed in the experience.

This leaves me with one more question then, is the towel move able to certain spots along the waist in the editor or is there only one spot for the towel?

My guess would be off the to the left, off to the right and right in the middle as the options in the player editor for the hand towel.

I'd really like this to translate into moveable end zone pylons ala ps2.

Will other positions other than qb be able to have hand towels?

Holy crap.

I stand corrected. That really is something.

Guillotine must have just melted on hearing that! LOL!

Cummings,

If making the ball smaller is going to cause that much of an issue, to hell with it. I think the ball was considerably smaller in 09 than it was in 08, so if there's more improvement in 10, it shouldn't be too bad.

Impressive! Certainly shows that you guys are not taking the easy way out on even the smallest things. Great to see and thanks for the clarification!

Either way, certainly not a deal breaker by any stretch.... only noticeable in still shots for the most part.

Fair enough, I can understand that angle of it. Just let me skip it if I want to and we're good. Actually, one very infuriating part of 2k8 was that it wouldn't let me skip some of the cut scenes, which irritated me to no end.

Are people really complaining about the fingers on the laces? The arm of Roethlesberger being to skinny? Would you rather have the Alex Smith look, see picture of him in the Niners in this thread, all steroid like? Newsflash people not all NFL players have body builder bodies.

Listen Im all for constructive criticism but if all we have to complain about in Madden , as football fans and videogames fans, are the a few skinny arms, and the QB is not holding on the laces, and the FOOTBALL looks big, I think we are in for a treat.

Lets look at the big picture here fellas.

I'd say thats pretty safe to assume that it wouldn't be available on just one player on the field.

But then again due to the memory it might be limited so that that one or two players on the field can wear one.
