This could have been there last year. I had a double play and my SS tossed the ball behind his back to the 2b man, then fired it over to first. Just never saw that behind the back toss before.

The game is sick, I love what they did to the batting. It's way more challenging than 09. Not trying to knitpick, but is there anyway you can make the clock move at the back of the stadium, instead of being stuck on 2:35 for the whole game.

There's been more then 50 people I've read are having this problem including my self and 3 friends of mine. It's not my tv cause it was perfect in 08. I also notice once the batter comes to the plate it's smooth but as soon as the pitcher picks his pitch the framerate dips.
50?? Wow. That's a stretch I'd say but who really knows.

Maybe one of the 50 guys can post a video so the rest of us can see what is going on. I'm betting at least one out of that many people has a digital camera.

I don't have a camera so I guess I can't do it, but if you can pop in '08 again and then play the '09 demo, you may notice it.

Even press X for your batter to do his pre-pitch routine, you'll notice that it's not the same smoothness that it was in '08. That's all I'm saying. I don't know how the framerate is exactly and I'm not going to even try and call it out, but especially when the pitch starts it gets a bit choppier.

In that regard, I'm one of the 50.

That is exactly it. And what I am seeing as well. And Ryan Howard's stance, how he swings the bat around, stare at it, almost as if it is missing frames of animation and the bat skips around in the air.

Popped in '08, smooth as silk.

Now again, we know it is a way early build, that this can be corrected, but for those (even devs) to say they are not seeing it in this very demo, yet there are a bunch of us who can, and swapped both version and notice it even more so... it does cause some concern.

After all, how do you fix something you dont see?

# 426 OSUFan_88 @ 02/06/09 12:35 PM
I probably missed it last year, and it really minor, but the way the crowd reacts to a long fly ball and important situations is awesome.

This may be the most beautiful game I've ever seen, as well. The light and shadows, the way everything looks, and even the way the time changes during the game.

I cannot wait for the full build.

It's great to read all this positive feedback. I doubt whether I'll get to play the demo because download speeds are generally slow where I live. Someone early in the thread asked about the role played by the left stick in hitting and I don't think anyone answered. I presume you can bat just using timing but is it better if you use the left stick as well?

Just tried it. Catcher cam for both hitting and pitching. It only seems to happen, and it is a slight animation/vibration/stutter and not as smooth as the rest of the time, when the pitch selection is made and the pitcher goes into his set.

You can see the batter smooth as silk in his stance (more noticeable on more animated batter stances) and as soon as you (or the CPU if you are hitting) selects pitch, it has that slight frame dip to it.

# 430 RunN1st @ 02/06/09 12:49 PM
This game is about a good looking as they get! The frame rate does suffer a little bit during the pitcher and batter animations but it's probably because of the new lighting, which by the way is extremely cool. That said, IMO the game feels and controls very much like '07 and '08.

If you've never owned The Show this game will shock you.

Ok, FINALLY got a chance to play and I will post my impressions.

- Breaking balls have more bite and are more difficult to hit this year.

- The graphics are awesome. Not just the park lighting, but the players look crisper, and the equipment looks shiny.

- The broadcast style presentation is AWESOME. I love when a hitter is stepping into the box and the camera has a realistic setting/zoom. The replays of strikeouts from the CF camera is awesome. The Homerun replay is awesome, as well. Langoria took me yard and the replay was sick.

- I didnt see the game in full-on night mode, as it ended in the 4th 2-1 (Played default all-star sliders).

- Noticed ONE bug. Upton was warming up to swing in the box without a bat...the bat was suspended in mid air. it was weird.

- The sounds are awesome.

- Didnt see any beachballs. Didnt see any fans reaching over the railings like in that one screenshot, but I assume it may be in the final version.

- Too much rex hudler.

- The batspeed is faster, but so are the pitches. It took me an inning or so before i was making consistent contact.

- my first hit was a double down the right field line with Utley. Ripped a line drive right over the first basemens head.

- I like that you cant see the ball shadow in the dark, so you dont know where the ball is going to land. Awesome touch.

- I saw dust swirling around.

- The new signature styles look GREAT. Hamels, Kazmir, Pena, Iwamura, and Bartlett all looked great.

I thought I'd post some pics I took using the snapshot feature of MLB the Show 09.

Fun Stuff...can't wait for it to drop!

I'll do a few more too.

Pic 1 - Utley HR ball.
Pic 2 - Utley HR Celebration Crossing Homeplate
Pic 3 - Mound Conference after Kazmir's shaky start

I also noticed in the outfield I cannot see the catch region indicator if there are shadows. But I can in the corners on the dirt.
Your post has been making me think about shadows for the past 10 minutes. This is going to be a productive day at work.

Is there a ball shadow projected anywhere on the field? If the light source was directly above the object then the shadow would be cast directly below it. But in the demo the sun is setting casting a shadow from east to west. So in the case of a fly ball the shadow would be to the east or west on the field, not directly below the ball in flight.

Unless you are talking about the shading on the ball itself, then disregard my question.

My co-worker keeps laughing at me because I am holding my hand to my desk lamp.

In all honesty i play my 360 more then the ps3 and on my 360 i have about 50 friends but i say about 10 im really cool with(They have a ps3 as well) and i asked them if they were seeing what i was seeing and they all said yes. It's not tv lag because im playing it on a 720p HDTV and the ps3 is on 720p as well. So if you add 10 that i mentioned from my friends list plus all the people here that have been saying it as well. I'd say that's probably around 50 if not more. As far as recording it, I would do it but after school tonight.

For some ungodly reason, I am having a difficult time with pitch recognition. What batting view is everyone using?

# 437 brunnoce @ 02/06/09 12:59 PM
Jim i think its down to the tv type or ps3 hook up...the worst part is that the devs are not getting this problem neither, so like sox said, they cant fix something they dont see

but the issue is definatly happening, i can confirm, ive been playing 08 quite often last couple of weeks and i felt right of the first pitch 09 demo wasnt as smooth...

i just pray i wont get that on the full version, if i do, i can bet ill be selling my tv and getting a diferent one...no way im gonna miss maximum experience with this game this year!

I sold my PS3 on a lark and thought I could make it by without The Show. In my boredom I read this thread, and now I'm thinking that there's gotta be a way I can move a couple bricks and find the quid for another PS3 and The Show 09.

J/K about the bricks, but man, this game sounds incredible. It was already the premier game of its kind, but now the lighting is better, it's even more subtle in terms of the little things, and it seems that the hitting sliders actually work.

Damn. I'm gonna go get set up and put some impressions of my own down pronto.

Thanks to those who did the community event. And to Countryboy and the 100 game log. Are you posting that game by game, or in chunks?
ROFL @ move some bricks to cop a Ps3...

iiiiiight!
