Just posting my impressions - I've been lurking on the forums a long time. 1st post. Note - I play 5 min qtrs. All I have time for.
I have the 360, only had a franchise game freeze once and I've now completed a full season. I did train once, but quickly got bored with it. Training didn't freeze that once. I always saved my franchise after each game by using the quick save feature (hitting LS when you get back to the schedule). This is with no patches and no updated rosters because I wasn't online at the time.
Post patch #2 - No freezing still. Have noticed improved gameplay as well with my own custom sliders. I also noticed my defensive players moving around pre-snap without me doing anything - like you would see in a real game. Either I'm on something or I just never noticed this pre-patch 2. Man Align adjustment still doesn't work. LOTS of animations are happening now that I didn't see pre-patch 2. WR's getting drilled in the air, different looking jukes, CPU throws down field and lots of slants and crossing routes. CPU WAY more committed to the run. However, still running with marginal results (slider rush D set to zero's).
Then I tried My Skill again for the hell of it. Since IQ still adjusts with custom sliders used my IQ was 657 to start when I did a play now game under My Skill. Keep in mind pre-patch 2 I quickly switched to custom sliders because I hated My Skill and saw robo QB and impossible running game on each side of the ball. Jags vs. 9er's @ Jac. Heavy rain purposely to see field degrade, was minimal at best and jerseys were extremely dirty by half. Anyway, the game was a blast. Running as before patch with My Skill was hard, but finally busted some 5-9+ yard runs. Still finished with maybe 50 yards. Very low scoring affair, lost 10-7 with CPU kicking the game winner with time expiring.
Even with 5 min qtrs I think the CPU snap delay is a blessing. I like to adjust before the snap. I do it every single play. So, I needed this.
Now, here I am thinking My Skill may be useful post-patch. I decide to play with Arizona against the Ravens. My thought being that if I were to play Arizona I would blitz the sh** out of Arizona to force quick passes and take away the run. Would the CPU do this? Yes. In two games both with Arizona they did this. They played a ton of zone. I had many 3 and outs. Curl routes worked, but I saw a LOT of deflected passes where the CB or LB would jump about 15 feet across the field to deflect. Damn. This was not what I wanted to see. Edge ended with -1 yard rushing in the first game on probably 13 attempts. Not realistic even against the Ravens. Played another game withe the Vikes versus Ravens. I figured they'd go for shutting down the run, but AP would break something off at some point. Nope. Couldn't run at all. So, my IQ went from 657, to 602, to 597. Really not happy with My Skill again and will go back to Custom. Unfortunately, I haven't found a fair custom slider where I can lose to the CPU. Yes, I would like to lose here and there. BUT...not with unrealistic defensive plays that include 15 foot superman deflections and every LB busting thru the O-line every time unblocked. That's not realistic. Not to mention with My Skill I noticed a lot of o-lineman just dropping their blocks once the ball is handed off. I don't notice this on custom. I've had some great games on custom. But at the same time I'm not losing any of them. Phew - long 1st post!
edit - I should mention too that I am enjoying the game. I think the gameplay is good - I just don't think the CPU gameplay is that great. I feel like with more manipulation I should get something satisfying. I wouldn't by any means call the game a bust. An I'm surprised so many people have freezing issues and I don't. I don't get what the difference could be.
edit 2 - I totally forgot about this and it's a big deal to me. I only notice the CPU busting a big run in My Skill mode. NEVER happens in custom mode. Not sure why.

I just completed a game and it froze at the replay screen. I could not view the replays or my stats. I was online.
Far as getting the patch when I attempted to go online it automatically asks you to update.

Played one game post-patch so far. Overall, I liked what I saw. Of course, I thought the game was pretty good, pre-patch. The CPU completion percentage was right at 50%, and they did attempt to run the ball, just not with much success.
I did notice more broken tackles by the CPU (I'm using Heel's sliders with some modifcations) and did notice my passing % went down as well, and I threw more INT's, which were my fault, not b/c of unrealistic play.
I won 12-7 on a hail mary to Plax from Eli. Plax got upended at the 1, but fell into the end zone - thankfully. I was so excited from completing the Hail Mary that I totally botched the extra point.
I had 2 sacks, forced 2 fumbles (recovered 1) and the CPU sacked me 3 times. I think each team had 4 penalites called. For me it was 3 holding, 1 clip and the CPU had 2 defensive pass interference calls, a clip and facemask.
One thing that did bug me was Wash. was up 7-6 with under 2 min. to go and had the ball after I threw an INT. Instead of running the ball and making me take all my timeouts, and potentially ending the game by running for a first down, they ran on 1st, then passed on 2nd and 3rd. Both incomplete. Now, I still had to complete a 57-yard hail mary to win, but, who knows if they had run the ball if I would've even gotten the ball back.
It looks like the patch addressed most of the issues it was supposed to. But, after playing NCAA, I feel like that game, post-patches, is more complete than Madden. I still like Madden, but NCAA is just more fun.

I admit to not reading this entire thread, but I've gotta say it - the graphics look better since Patch 2.
Specifically, lighting is a whole lot better. I played at 4:15 game in Tampa Bay and the sunlight, coming across the field and throwing long player shadows, looked really cool.
Props to the Art Director. I don't recall getting this impression when playing the game previously, so I'm guessing something was tweaked to bring out his team's vision. Looks great.
I hope in Madden 2010 they continue to push for great lighting. Some HDR and blooming effects could be sweet...and the hardware this generation can definitely handle it.

I've never had so much grief in my life over a video game. I'd be ripping my hair out if I had some. Instead, I kicked my TV in. Don't tell me I need anger management because I've showed incredible patience with this game. Whatever that word is... where companies purposely create a poor product in order to maintain business... EA's guilty of it here.
There's no way to fix this game until CPU sliders come out. No matter what you do... what slider set you use... your CPU cohorts are as big an idiot as the mentally deficient kids that ride the short bus. And I'd be willing to bet that EA's marketing "geniuses" will release DLC as a purchase, instead of a rightful fix to a busted game.
You can gussy up the graphics... make the CPU running game tolerable... but you can't do anything about the CPU QB behaving as if there's actually someone in his face and capable of error? Give me a damn break. A game plan is useless if the CPU can just toss on you and it not matter what you do.
This is just incredible. Madden '09 has been one giant debacle after another, I think. Personally, I think it's just one massive act of collusion and monopoly, but hey... it doesn't matter what I think.
