On '09, don't forget Robo-QB. EA knows it is there and does nothing except make us hope that CPU sliders (taken out this year, BTW) will be available as DLC to fix it even though we haven't heard anything on them for weeks. This game was unplayable before Dummy Sliders made it at least tolerable. Having all QBs with a 80% completion rate and making blitzes worthless is pretty weak and frustrating.

Looking at the stuff fixed by this patch, it is all stuff the community figured out within days. Now I realize a million guys will find more stuff than the handful of QA guys EA allocates to the job but I think patches should attack more actual glitches and less stuff that should never have made it past QA if they would have at least a couple guys play like the average franchise player plays...8 min quarters, all pro default sliders. They would have seen Robo-QB, they would have seen the broken challege play, they would have seen the messed up draft, they would have seen fatigue was non-existent, they would have seen the guys running out of bounds, they would have seen the field not degrading, and they would have seen there were no penalties in the games. Heck, they would have seen it all regardless of quarter length and slider setting if they simply had someone play against the CPU.

Sorry if I am a little bitter but when game testers work for $10 an hour and EA is a billion dollar company, you'll have to excuse me for not being excited when a patch, though good and I am glad we got it, has the majority of its fixes dealing with things that should have been found before the game was released.

well we can add a third, I just experienced the franchise freeze. I finished one of my preseason games and I went back to the franchise main menu to sim the other games and it froze.

Believe it or not, some of the things we complain about in this crap game, actually do exist. Here's to getting the CPU to gain more than 2 yards per carry.

shrewd business move??

the nfl offered the rights to the highest bidder...ea outbid 2k because they had no choice...(and they could)

my opinion is the nfl should never have done this...but they don't really care too much about video games so their only priority was $$.

so are we now to boycott the NFL because there is no other professional football leagues around?

The NFL wanted to go exclusive, for one reason or another, and put their license up for bid. EA outbid 2K for the license.

I don't care who is making the dam game.. 2K, EA, Sega, Sony, MS...etc

its just a BAD situation when only one company is allowed to make an NFL video game..

I don't know how anyone here can say otherwise

Just want to add in my impressions.

First, EA has finally pissed me off to no end. It's now over a month past release date and it's barely playable. I have a 360 btw.

First I had problems with the franchise freezing in season 3 preseason. Then I applied the patch #2 and it STILL froze. So, I started a new franchise. I simulated it through four years. No problem saving. Just for the heck of it, I went back to my old franchise and started it again. It saved. I do not understand...

However, I played through one game just fine on the old franchise. Saved afterwards. Then I play another game completely through. When I exit the game after it's done, it goes to that loading screen. HERE is where it is freezing now. So I can never get back to the main screen to save. This is infuriating. I've simulated past these games and tried playing random games. Again, it freezes at the loading screen.

I am sick of EA's crap. At least with PC games patches are released quickly to address issues. This bureaucratic junk with console patching is absolutely insane. EA's lack of support on this is inexcusable. I've supported EA through a variety of their titles and have had no problems. What the hell is their problem with Madden 09?

Actually with EA's market share in sports video games you very much could make an argument that they do have a monopoly. Exclusive licenses obviously help that.

The NFL is the problem in this. I expected better, same with the NCAA. EA likely sees exclusive licenses like every other video game does when they buy a movies rights to be the licensed video game. The NBA was smart in that it has 3 companies promoting the NBA on different platforms. This does a lot to help the game globally, which we know the NBA is more likely to covet than the NFL or MLB.
No, they really don't. Look, I'm not a fan of EA whatsoever, and I hate the exclusive license. But EA has done nothing to restrict the type of sports gaming content that may be produced for video game consoles. Video game consumers, on the other hand, have done plenty to limit the number of football gaming options they have by continuing to buy the Madden product AND by failing to support any competitor football game that came along.

Kellogg's just got the exclusive rights to put Michael Phelps on a box of cereal. General Mills had this right in the past, and would put Olympians on Wheaties boxes. Nobody has come along and said that Kellogg's now has a monopoly on cereal production, even if just so happened that 90% of consumers bought the cereal box with Phelps on the cover. That's just good marketing. Moreover, if General Mills makes a better cereal, and people don't buy it because of some license arrangement, can they really complain?

I hate what EA has done to the gaming community, but it isn't "illegal".

I've said this in like four different freezing threads now

WATCH HALFTIME HIGHLIGHTS!!!
PICK 2-3 AND WATCH THEM IN THEIR ENTIRETY.

It sounds dumb, and it is. I don't know why it works but it works.

You sound like you're getting hung up at the same point I was last year. Play a new game and WATCH a few highlights at HALFTIME.

If you're getting freezes at other points in the game or other menus, then this won't help. But if you're getting freezing when you try and exit after a game...try this.

You are correct...but one thing every one forgets when discussing the exclusive NFL licence is that EA did all they could to get ALL american football...NCAA, Arena, and NFL. So yeah, they had to bid on the NFL because the NFL wanted it but what forced them to go exclusive with NCAA and Arena? And then they just sit on Arena and ESPN for that matter? In addition to there not being an Arena game for this last cycle, there has never been a next gen Arena football game. Now some of you may not care about Arena but while the argument that EA was forced to buy the NFL rights may be true, the have pursued a monopoly on American football by forcing exclusivity with NCAA, Arena, and ESPN...hence the reason they sit on those properties rather than try to recoup at least some of the cost of acquiring them.

IMO, 2k nailed its own coffin shut when they went this route.
This is pure speculation,I have never seen any link from a reliable source to back any of this up.
I think this was nothing more than a rumor started up by gamesites, and "so-called" analyst's.

Imo....it's just pure speculation...like the bigfoot sightings.....we'll just never know.

So now where is the DCL? Haha I need the sliders big time to make this game even better and more realistic. Any word of the DCL coming out?

Does not work. I've tried viewing the highlights. In fact, I always watch them. This has not helped the freezing issue. Each time I exit the game, it goes to the loading screen, then it disappears and shows the image of the franchise screen and boom. Freeze. Every single time. I've simulated past games, I've tried rebooting, I've tried the silly highlight-viewing method. Nothing works.

I've got to jump on the bandwagon. NEVER in my years of gaming (over 15 years dating back to Commodore 64's and TRS-80's) have I encountered such a buggy and worthlessly put together game. I can stand glitches and bugs. But when it makes the game UNPLAYABLE, the developers need to be held responsible. I don't even mind the patching process. But the fact that they were insanely slow to develop the patch and obviously didn't even test it across systems makes it all the more infuriating.

Obviously many many people are still continuing to have problems, and EA's lack of support is pathetic.

Maybe I just need to go back to Madden 08 on the PC.

Did they update celebrations? Because when I was playing, Brandon Lloyd did a celebration (pointing to the sky) that he did from Week 3 in real life. Pretty cool

I seriously cannot get the CPU to run or score points. It's ridiculous. I'm starting to wonder if any CPU team plays better than another. Do the ratings even matter? I certainly don't see any ''robo qb'' at this point either - Hell, I'd welcome it.

It's like playing against a 5 year old. When the hell are we going to get some decent CPU AI from these games? Unlike some people, I don't want to win back to back superbowls as the Detroit Lions, and have the best defense in the game.

yea.. while i do have some really close games sometimes, the CPU in general just has a hard time sustaining long drives.

If they don't score on a long pass or run, or something I just screwed up on playing defense, they have a real hard time scoring.

and one time the CPU was down 10 points with 2 minutes left.. CPU onside kicked, recovered the ball, then drove and scored a TD with like a minute left. So he's only down 3 now.

and guess what CPU did next?
He freaking kicked off a long kickoff, no onside kick... game over

It just seems that every time i start to enjoy Madden, another very frustrating bug pops its ugly head, to sour my experience.
