Could not select any formations, but could right click on view the whole replay. After which stuck back at the playcall screen. Also able to hit start for the pause menu, but could not get out of that. Don't think this is similar to the freezes everyone was talking about prior to the patch, hopefully just a dirty disc situation.
I had this exact situation in a non franchise game. I was on defense, and after about a minute of being unable to do anything but view the whole replay, the action returned to the field and I just audibled to a defensive play. After that, no problem the rest of the game. I almost shut the game off thinking it had completely frozen.

When downloading the patch, should you erase the first patch then download the second or just download the patch?

Good stuff right there.
I hate that...that's the most frustrating and helpless feeling that you can have. Losing the game and just watching the clock tick away. It just gives you time to reflect on all the dumb a** plays you made during the game...It's realistic football but I swear it makes my blood boil. But I agree it should be in the game for realism.

Im going to assume he meant when the CPU is behind 22-20 and they would rather let the clock tick down to the 2 minute warning instead of actually trying to get a play off before the warning. I could be wrong but that would make the most sense.

It's a little bit of both maybe, but I think we are seeing these completion percentages because EA overcompensated for the juiced up defensive coverage ai from last year. If you watch the coverage ai the cpu rarely if ever makes a play on the ball and there are players wide open all over the place. the coverage ai in general is really bad. I agree it has to do with the engine entirely and the ai is not right plus its not balanced correctly. I don't think it's robo qb's we are necessarily seeing though. if you watch the qb they aren't doing anything that is really juiced. they are too accurate and dont make enough bad passes but if you pressure them, or have good coverage, they do. All I'm saying its it seems like more a pass coverage problem and that is why the completion percentages are out of whack.

The problem with this game is the offense has advanced and the defense hasn't really and we are left with an unbalanced game. If EA ever concentrates on defensive ai and the cpu running game we will see a good version of madden. I agree the ai of the qb could be tweaked a bit but i tend to think we are just seeing this amplified because of other problems with the game. EA is pretty much inept imo and can't tell their *** from their elbow on a lot of this stuff, or they just don't care and rush out this game and it's extremely unbalanced. Last year was bad with all the interceptions and this year there really is no excuse. They had a whole year to fix the problems with passing and all they did was just make it just as messed up in the other direction.
You are completely right its definitely the coverage because i notice it too i can put defensive guy in the right spots and guys will still be wide open..Even when i know where they are going to through the ball (especially slants or underneath) i am almost helpless defending those passes...I could call under defensive plays all day and they still complete passes underneath

Ok I don't want to read through 30 pages of posts...sorry.

But is it true that uniforms don't get dirty after the patch? If so....that is pretty lame.

to be honest, if I was trailing the cpu by less than 3 and had the ball in their redzone, you can bet your butt that I would let the clock tick. I know that I "have 3 in the pocket" so why score and leave ample time on the clock for them to mount a comeback?

I don't view that as a problem honestly, I think most coaches would be happy to let those 15 seconds pass by.

I agree. Maybe the O.P. made a mistake on what side of the field he was talking about. Or maybe he was being serious.

is there any way to get the cpu to hike the ball faster? its annoying having to wait for him to hike when i already have my plays done

Yep, for some reason my uniforms don't get dirty anymore. Played two games as Jet against Miami in the rain. After three quarters, the uniforms were still white. I remember pre-patch, I played one game as Falcons against Eagles in the rain. After about a quarter and a half, the uniforms were so dirty that I could barely tell which team is which. Now after the patch, I don't see any dirt in the rainy game.

Its only on the kickoffs it seems like they aren't dirty if you notice..try it again and you'll see by the 3rd of 4th qtr they will definitly be dirty...kickers hardly ever are dirty...

lol...

I hope they tune it next year though. It's a good temp fix, but it's a bit goofy to have you wait 10-15 seconds on a FG attempt. Or to see the CPU let the clock run out while trailing by a score because they haven't hit their "random time over 5 seconds" window. It's still better than what was going on before the patch though.

pfft i never complained about it, they should of added an option for turning it on/off. it was fast but they should of just added an extra 1-2 seconds

You may have to erase that franchise and start another.

This game is garbage. I started a new franchise after downloading the patch and on my second game in franchise mode I got a freeze as soon as the game ended tonight. Time had expired and it froze up going into the stats & highlights screen. This disc is a month and a half old with not a single scratch on it, and my PS3 is brand new.

I have bought every Madden since the early 90's on the Genesis but I will never purchase another EA product again.

09' has froze up on 50% of my franchise games out of about 20. I waited patiently (and skeptically) for that patch to see if they could fix their product but all I got out of it was 1 finished game before it froze up again.

I'm done.

thats exactly where mine freezes up......when that box with the replays comes up.......or it freezes when trying to quit the game after its finished.......or it freezes when i try to quit a game half way through

I actually took the game out and snapped it in half. Pretty dumb because I coulda traded it in to Gamestop or something but this game deserves the trash can.

It actually felt really good tossing in the 2 halves of a Madden disc into the garbage with old discarded pizza crusts, coke cans and cheetos wrappers. Right were it belongs.
