News Post

We have identified and fixed the bug causing the game to crash when editing rosters. This bug also causes teams to disappear and team ratings to change.

The patch is being tested tonight, and assuming all goes well it will be submitted tomorrow for certification. The expected release is in 5-10 days.

Until the patch, we recommend you cease editing rosters. Rosters that have been corrupted by the bug will not work after the patch. If you have a roster in progress and have not encountered any freezes or missing teams, it will work after the patch. There is a possibility a roster can be corrupt and not have surfaced any problems yet. This is why we recommend that you stop or back up your work among multiple save files.

We are also fixing the bug where the depth chart gets reordered after editing a player with this patch.

These are the ONLY fixes in this patch. We are planning on a 2nd patch with many fixes, but we had to get this one out the door.

We appreciate everyone's patience on this matter.

Special thanks to CDJ, 21SEC, and Fairdale Kings for helping us track this down.

EA isn't the victim, which I feel tries to get portrayed a lot here lately...

Very well said.

Could not of said it better. Nothing else needs to be said because your statement Skyboxer sums it all up for me about how I feel about this game and EA. Peace!!!

People need to be able to voice their concerns in a more mature way other than EA SUCKS, blah blah blah. This is not gamefaqs or IGN.

Isn't that just what Skyboxer did?

Yes he did. My post was not directed at him. Sorry if I made it seem that way.

I agree 100%, the gameplay and roster glitch have to be a much higher priority then anything assmall as jersey bowl patches or things like that. Those types of things won't be patched at all if ever.

People, you need to understand that right now EA has suspended all attempts at making a Dynasty because of these issues. That is a major flaw that needs to be fixed/ Things such as shoes, jerseys, field decor, mascots, etc. are either very very far down on the list or non existent all together. Please leave things like this out so the major issues and bugs can be discussed and talked about.

Just let me know when the patch comes out so i can start editing my players and teams, not to mention the Depth chart so i don't see just the highest rated skilled players returning kick offs or punts.

Sup Adam,

I will have to give your props for absorbing all of our anger. I am glad to see a patch is in the works. Can you relay to the gameplay people for a second beside the tightening up the defense can they look at the powerbacks....lol. Right now they seem useless.

I just wish this issue had gotten to me before I bought the game.

Let's keep our fingers crossed... Because this is the last time I get screwed over. Every title from here on, is a rental. First question from me come August - ''Do the sliders work?''
im sure EA knew about it and was just keeping hush about it so they would get their money from everyone to buy it

I like the game. I have enjoyed playing it thus far. However, my only concern is the roster issue. I started a Dynasty and used the roster from EArosters com. I chose to download the rosters from him because after reading forum after forum, it seemed that people were having the least problems with his. I did not edit anything, just used the rosters and started a Dynasty. It froze after I finished my 5th game. I didn't experience any other issues just the fact it froze. I am hoping that the patch will fix all freezing and allow us to have every team edited so that we can all enjoy our Dynasties year after year. The freezing in Franchise mode of Madden last year, really soured my experience. I am a Franchise/Dynasty guy. That is how I enjoy these games. All the other technical stuff with gameplay, I don't notice most of the stuff that these people complain about. When something does stand out, it is usually something that does not happen often or I figure that it is a video game and it is hard to make things completely perfect. I haven't played a video game in my life that didn't geek out a little sometimes. However, freezing and being unable to experience the game as marketed is frustrating. There should not be freezing when you are playing in Dynasty mode or Franchise mode. I want to play multiple seasons and if it is advertised as being able to play 30-60 seasons than the game should do just that. If the game has an edit roster function, then it should work without any problems at all.

After the Patch:
Who will have accurate rosters where only names have been changed? (I don't want rosters from people who change ratings. I am fine with the default.)

Will EA let us know what we need to do to play a functional Dynasty with edited rosters?

I have deleted all NCAA 09 files from my hardrive and will not play again until this patch comes out and it is assured that there will be no freezing. I love my XBOX 360 but I do not play many games. NCAA and Madden are my favorites and I want to continue my yearly tradition of playing these games. I know for a fact that if I cannot get what I paid for this year......I am more than likely done gaming. I am older now and don't have the time and money to waste.

The funny thing is that they wouldn't even have to open the checkbook if they asked a few of us here at OS. I know I'd do it for nothing.

Good point. I would have no doubt that a few OSers would find most of the problems within a short time frame and would do it for nothing. I really don't know how realistic this is from EA's perspective but I know it would definitely help identify the problems.

EA's testers suck? Some of the bugs that the game ships with are completely unexcuseable. People in the community are finding them after having the game for a day or two. How can a group of testers not find these issues when they play/test the game for over a month?

That is the problem that non-EA sheep have with NCAA/Madden. It is being released with bugs each year that clearly should have been caught in the testing process. If a typical game player can find a broken feature in the game in 2 days, it leads to the impression that EA doesn't care about us and isn't testing their games.

I really think most of us could live with the general AI issues that occur because we realize that creating a complex football game can be difficult and you can't program for every situation. What we can't live with is when a game ships with broken or buggy features right out of the box. We pay $60 for a good quality product and expect the features that are included and advertised to work. We rightly complain when they are not.

Would you be happy or satisfied if you bought Halo 4 and some of the guns didn't work? Maybe after you picked up a certain amount of guns, you are then unable to pick up a new gun from that point on and some of the other items in your inventory disappear. Would you be happy that you had to wait on Bungie to release a patch that made the game work correctly? Wouldn't people be furious that Bungie didn't catch something that was so obvious in testing?

Since we have the "ear" of an EA dev I figured I would make a couple of points:

I'm not sure if it's been mentioned yet (not going to skim a 40+ page thread), but a buddy and I noticed a change of possession issue the other day. I stopped him on D and he was forced to kick a long FG. The FG was short and my return guy caught the kick in the back of the end zone and the play was blown dead due to his foot being on the end line. Instead of the ball changing hands, he got the ball again going in the other direction. Is this something that will be addressed in the second patch?

Also, we are not your testers. I realize you guys have a shortened schedule with these titles because they are annual releases, but a month or so of proper testing should have caught these mistakes.

I am of the opinion that they don't hire or wouldn't go out of their way to hire OSers or even people who actually play the game in a real world situation (i.e. naming all rosters, exploiting broken plays) because then you would find a truly, truly messed up game; and almost by definition, OSers would find so much to complain about (sorry, recommend)[not that anyone would be wrong, I mean, bowl patches, proper stadiums and sounds, proper stats, etc. are part of actual college football] there would be no way they can actually fix everything without blowing it all up. Then when the game is released there will be even more outcry because nothing OS recommended or told them was broken was fixed. They have to wait for the game to be purchased first before they go "my bad" and patch your affections.

My biggest problem outside of the roster issue is the way the players run, it is awful and no one runs like that in real life...sure, the bodies twist in motion but they do not rise or fall (bounce)...its creepy. The players also "skate" on the turf, still....what is this, the umpteenth gillion time that has been mentioned? There are obviously certain things EA has no chance or desire to fix. My suggestion is that for next year, you keep the same game and engine and shore it up, patch it all out, make this game run keen first, add in the bells and whistles (better stadium sounds, fixed stadiums, uniforms, patches, gear, more sideline action, fix graphical glitches) and by god you'll have yourself a game.

They also all run the same. The running animation just plays faster or slower based on the speed rating. It looks terrible. Take some time and mo-cap at least 6 different running styles.

I will only name the players on the default rosters. Version one of my rosters does not include ratings changed, numbers changed, etc.

I have to laugh because some of you don't have any idea about what you are talking about (not necessarily directed at the last few posts).

Some of this complaining instead of constructive criticism gets very tiring to read when I get on here to see if the patch is out yet. Remember, the more negativity you put out, the more you will receive. That is a fact of life, brother

Yeah there's some stuff I dont get at all. It just makes ZERO sense.

But when I think about the fact that one of EA pitching points next year might be, "New! Bowlgame Bonanza! Every bowl game will be tailored to the specific bowl game being played. Logos, endzone art, commentary, jerseys, lighting & atmosphere, and many more features!"

Then we'll see all this standard last gen stuff comeback.
