News Post

We have identified and fixed the bug causing the game to crash when editing rosters. This bug also causes teams to disappear and team ratings to change.

The patch is being tested tonight, and assuming all goes well it will be submitted tomorrow for certification. The expected release is in 5-10 days.

Until the patch, we recommend you cease editing rosters. Rosters that have been corrupted by the bug will not work after the patch. If you have a roster in progress and have not encountered any freezes or missing teams, it will work after the patch. There is a possibility a roster can be corrupt and not have surfaced any problems yet. This is why we recommend that you stop or back up your work among multiple save files.

We are also fixing the bug where the depth chart gets reordered after editing a player with this patch.

These are the ONLY fixes in this patch. We are planning on a 2nd patch with many fixes, but we had to get this one out the door.

We appreciate everyone's patience on this matter.

Special thanks to CDJ, 21SEC, and Fairdale Kings for helping us track this down.

I have a serious problem with spending $60 to be a paying bug tester. I play games for fun, yet with NCAA, it feels like work this year. So save your "shame on me" crap for someone who will buy your pathetic argument.

Oh, and it's bad form to suddenly cry "off-topic" when someone takes on arguments you brought up.
Thanks, for that.

I believe I read on this site that they planned on releasing a second, larger patch addressing gameplay issues later. This patch is a quickie to fix the roster issue.

That's the plan, and I'm pretty sure they will. However, sometimes this kind of stuff falls out of development's hands, and someone higher up will kill the idea. I think these issues are big enough that doing that would be terrible PR, but until there's an announcement, anything can happen.

Being in the software development world myself I know that "patches" and "fixes" are all about cost/benefit analysis. At what point do you cut your losses and just move on to next year's product, because if you wait around too long fixing this one you will only be in a greater hole come next year's release.

If they work on a patch or fix and it won't be done and tested and released to Sony/Microsoft to be approved until December you've used up all of that time in between where you could have been refining next year's product.

Now granted, some of this stuff pops up year after year and you wonder why on earth this stuff makes it from year to year without being fixed, but maybe now that they have their ear lower to the ground by being in forums, a lot more issues will be more blatantly obvious. It's definitely a lot easier to see flaws when you're not the one that built it from the ground up for sure. It's like having someone else proofread your writing, it always looks right to you.

I understand the conflict between fixing this year's product vs. working on next year's but when a major element of the game (i.e. sliders) is completely broken, isn't there an obligation to fix it even though it means you get behind?

By all indications, they want the game to be more wide open so maybe the offense will always have an advantage but at least you can make it so someone has the ability to tweak it to their liking, which is the whole reason sliders exist in the first place.

The who bought, why bought, shoulda bought stuff doesn't matter. Early adopters don't have the same rights as others as far as getting a unbroken product?
oooook.....

"Sir my Tv I just purchased doesn't go to the low channels after being on for 2 hours"....

"Well you really should have waited until later to buy, Sorry but that's the price to be an early adopter. However in just a few short months the FU-OVER 2.0 will be on the shelf!"

One more thing they should try to fix is the computer AI. They always hike the ball at the first opportunity even when they should be killing the clock. Unbelievable.

It is what it is...and with technology that's the case. I never buy something day one. I am glad I didn't buy the 360 day one...got a second generation one and haven't had any of the overheating issues the original production run had.

All I am saying is, if you buy before research, you get to be the guinea pig.

Which I totally agree with. What I'm saying is first buyer on the 100th buyer, if the product isn't what it is supposed to be then it needs fixed rather than the "seller" getting a free ride..

Hopefully EA makes good.

True.

Music to my ears.

Since you guys seem to know when it will be out, it stands to reason you have identified all of the gameplay issues you deem as "problems".

Care to give us a quick summary of what will be involved in the 2nd patch?

I don't know where this should be but I have had a major issue with losing connection when playing online games. Out of 10 or so games the connection was lost or my opponent lost his connection 7-8 times. It's not my router because I don't even have one. I got a couple of buddies that are having the same problem. If this is in the wrong thread please direct me to the right one.

Well, there is some stuff that is already in the patch. This is stuff we identified and started on before the game hit shelves. Now that more issues are coming out we are identifying the ones we want to fix the most. I was going to do an official patch announcement of some kind when I knew, and still will, but I'll give a sneak peak based on what I know cause I love your avatar so much.

We fixed 2 recruiting exploits
Fixed a rare online desynch
Added half time highlights
Changed custom sounds so you can hear your opponent's while on the road
Fixed the exploit that custom sounds will tip you off when your opponent is going to fake punt/kick on 4th down
That's all I can remember off the top of my head. There are some others but I don't have the patch list in front of me as I'm posting at home right now.

It is still up in the air as to the stuff that we didn't have identified until the game went public. They are all on the gameplay team so I am not involved in their decision whether or not to fix them. The NCAA team's top two issues we want fixed is kick coverage and sliders.

It is best to wait on an official announcement, because any of this could change at any minute. I'll let everyone know once everything is locked down and finished, cause I don't want to mislead anyone. ONCE AGAIN, these aren't promises!
