News Post

We have identified and fixed the bug causing the game to crash when editing rosters. This bug also causes teams to disappear and team ratings to change.

The patch is being tested tonight, and assuming all goes well it will be submitted tomorrow for certification. The expected release is in 5-10 days.

Until the patch, we recommend you cease editing rosters. Rosters that have been corrupted by the bug will not work after the patch. If you have a roster in progress and have not encountered any freezes or missing teams, it will work after the patch. There is a possibility a roster can be corrupt and not have surfaced any problems yet. This is why we recommend that you stop or back up your work among multiple save files.

We are also fixing the bug where the depth chart gets reordered after editing a player with this patch.

These are the ONLY fixes in this patch. We are planning on a 2nd patch with many fixes, but we had to get this one out the door.

We appreciate everyone's patience on this matter.

Special thanks to CDJ, 21SEC, and Fairdale Kings for helping us track this down.

If the sliders get fixed that would solve a ton of problems (i.e. no defensive line pressure, maybe the Robo QB issue, special teams lack of coverage).

The only other thing I really notice is the way some of the slower guys run it's like they're high stepping or almost hopping up & down especially if you are holding the speed burst down. It's weird, almost looks like they're trying to hump the football. What's the deal with that? And it also doesn't matter how fast my RB or WR is, he always gets run down by the best defender unless someone picks him up on a block, the defense is super quick, and mine is super slow it seems. Blitzing looks like a bunch of sloths coming after the QB who always takes 2 steps back then fires to the open guy and hits him over 90% of the time.

Some of this complaining instead of constructive criticism gets very tiring to read when I get on here to see if the patch is out yet. Remember, the more negativity you put out, the more you will receive. That is a fact of life, brother
In the same token, I can understand a lot of the bitching and griping simply because money is tight right now for just about everyone. When you're spending $60+ of your "expendable" income, you at least expect a complete product. I don't have as much to complain about as others, but some of the stuff that's being found is quite ridiculous.

I'm not completely with EA on this one but I do understand the problem with making certain things, like running, look completely realistic. The big problem would be responsiveness of the controls, likely even some of the players who think they want the game to be that much more realistic would be incredibly frustrated when it took their players that much longer to cut one way or the other because they have to go through the accurate animation. I would love to see EA, or anybody for that matter, make a completely realistic college football game, but you have to remember that this is a business and the market for a completely realistic football game just isn't very big.

do we have a release date for the patch yet? I don't feel like searching through 43 pages of bitching to find this out.

Not saying the pass rush is awful, it's just they come off the line extremely slow and are always getting knocked down, that's not a common thing to see on every play. Plus when your pass rush gets shut down like this no matter if you're playing a weakling or a powerhouse it's obvious there's something wrong with the rush. That and besides the fact unless Robo QB gets fixed there's almost no way to get to the QB unless he scrambles out of pocket. Might be a combination of pass rush and coverage. I often see the secondary guys just freeze and stand there when a ball is thrown. That's no good either.

I'm still addicted to it, I just wish I could get some pressure on him and force an incompletion once in a while.

My complaint about the pass rush is that sometimes I will break my block with a defender, get a couple of steps to the side of the lineman, then suddenly be warped right back in that lineman's grasp. Sometimes I have to break the block 2-3 times to get to the backfield. By then, the QB has had time to get the ball off. I don't expect to get 5+ sacks a game, but when a block is broken, either I should be through or another lineman should pick me up. And I have the pass rush for user to 25 and my defensive awareness to 85 to get that. Otherwise, my players weren't even breaking a block.

there should be no complaing about money being tight or having wasted your money...there are tons of forums about this game alone. if you even think you might be unsatified with the game you should rent first then buy or not. Dont be mad at EA for you not making the best decision cuz you had to have it 1st among your friends. I paid my 60 and would do it again...love the game. the only thing that i ask for are the discipline offenses and more celebrations.

HERE HERE!!!

I get tired or people whining about money being tight and then buying video games. If money was so tight, you wouldn't be wasting money on video games, period. You hear the same thing about EVERY game, btw. Jesus, people, wait to read forums and reviews before throwing your hard earned money away, if that's what your worried about. You are what we refer to in the technology industry as "early adopters", you pay full price up front and have to deal with the bugs and kinks. Deal with it or wait to buy after you read about the game.

The wheel on the bus goes round and round....

The early adopter argument isn't even close to valid. NCAA Football has been around for over 10 years. These bugs aren't with any of the new features. The amount of issues we've seen shouldn't have been there, plain and simple. Am I happy that I'm putting in the amount of time I have in trying to get around the issues? No. For a product that's been around this long, there shouldn't have been these kinds of show stoppers. Hopefully, there will be a patch soon to address sliders and some of the other issues.

There will be a patch...read the very 1st post.

I agree about people whining about not having any money....STFU if you have money to spend on video games you are not poor...if you have a job or the ability to post on these forums you are not poor.....or what you think is poor is not what the true reality of being poor is.

I enjoy the game despite the flaws and hope the game will be better after both patches are completed.

Absolutely it is close to valid...if you bought the game before investigating the pros and cons, then you are an "early adopter" per the definition of the phrase. Period. Shame on you for not waiting to find out about these issues before plunking down your cash.

And, i am not just refering to NCAA Football. You here the same whining about every game out there in their respective forums. Scenario every time: People buy game day one without researching, same people find out the game is not without bugs (none are), same people whine endlessly with "woe is me" money stories.

boring.....

Anyway...this is offtopic...

You don't have to poor to not want to waste 60 bucks. I don't complain about the cost of games because I have the disposable income and that's how I choose to spend some of my entertainment money. But, consumers have the right to expect a product to work. Patching a supposed finished product is admitting to a flawed product and I strongly feel that those players that aren't online should be afforded refunds or at least a disc. Also, when the pass rush issue was discovered at community day, it was supposedly fixed for Madden. Why was there not a patch to fix that issue the day NCAA was released. There seemed to be enough time. But, the rush will be to get the online dynasty and game freezing problems corrected first. Those things can be considered broken and in my opinion should be subject to refund. Gameplay issues are more buyer beware.

It's not "woe is me" when it comes to money. Far from it. And I don't expect software to be bug free. I'm a programmer, I know how the industry works. Which makes these issues even more frustrating. People here found issues within 2 days that months of testing at EA didn't turn up? If so, then the testing department needs to be under serious scrutiny. I have a serious problem with spending $60 to be a paying bug tester. I play games for fun, yet with NCAA, it feels like work this year. So save your "shame on me" crap for someone who will buy your pathetic argument.

Oh, and it's bad form to suddenly cry "off-topic" when someone takes on arguments you brought up.

The patch referenced refers to only the rosters issue. There has been no announcement about a patch to deal with sliders, warping players, superhuman QBs, superhuman OL, etc.

# 400 Hammer67 @ 07/22/08 04:40 PM
Of course major flaws should be addressed, but i wouldn't say the game is entirely "broken" per say. I am playing the heck out of my dynasty and having fun as well as playing against friends online. I have experienced a few issues but nothing I would consider game breaking.

Every game ever made for any system has bugs and flaws out of the gate. The point is, we all should know by now that this is par for the course....and we have the resources to investigate these things before spending the cash.

Personally, I stopped buying Madden games every year. I skip years as I don't think the roster updates and minor tweaks are worth the money every year.
