We have identified and fixed the bug causing the game to crash when editing rosters. This bug also causes teams to disappear and team ratings to change.

The patch is being tested tonight, and assuming all goes well it will be submitted tomorrow for certification. The expected release is in 5-10 days.

Until the patch, we recommend you cease editing rosters. Rosters that have been corrupted by the bug will not work after the patch. If you have a roster in progress and have not encountered any freezes or missing teams, it will work after the patch. There is a possibility a roster can be corrupt and not have surfaced any problems yet. This is why we recommend that you stop or back up your work among multiple save files.

We are also fixing the bug where the depth chart gets reordered after editing a player with this patch.

These are the ONLY fixes in this patch. We are planning on a 2nd patch with many fixes, but we had to get this one out the door.

We appreciate everyone's patience on this matter.

Special thanks to CDJ, 21SEC, and Fairdale Kings for helping us track this down.

I know this has been beaten to death, but Adam, Ian, if you guys fix this pass rush issue the rest will follow.

The pass rush issue is of course the biggest deal, but if a good amount of pressure is put on the CPU QB he will obviously make bad passes and therefore bring his numbers down. That would change the whole defensive aspect of this game.

I really feel this game would go from a 6 on my scale to a 9, maybe 9 1/2.

Just putting my 2 cents in.

Why does it take so long? I guess it has to do with how busy they are. If there are other games and stuff that came in first, they are addressed. Certainly if it is a patch that fixes a big issue and doesn't require as much testing, it is faster.
Thanks. It's interesting to see all the things it takes to get a patch released.

I find Adam's above comment very disturbing. I have a bad feeling that this will take a lot longer than the 5 to 10 days originally estimated. UGH!

And now everyone knows why Adam was hesitant to give a time frame in the first place: Because of comments like this crap.

I agree. His 1st post...& its that. SMH.

Adam quick question(not sure if it was asked)now that the patch is out of your hands, do get started rite on the next patch or do wait until the 1st patch is approved in case it comes back to be re done?

DING DING DING, we have a winner! Adam gets flamed for saying 5-10 days, he then gets flamed for saying he doesnt want to give an estimate because............he will get ragged onwhen his original estimate doesnt hold and we give him crap for that.

Damned if you do, damned if you dont........

Regardless of an "exact" time frame, I applaud EA for the acknowledgment and response to the issue.

Hopefully Sony & MS realize this game is a system seller & put a move on things once they get it. For some reason I think MS will get the patch out before Sony, it always seems like Sony's dragging there feet on this issue. I do appreciate EA's involvement with the community & the promptness of there responses to the issues this year...Thanks OMT

Comments like this crap, huh? How old are you?

*doesn't see anything wrong with OMT's response*

Yea EA messed up...but at least it'll be fixed. This game is a step in the right direction, but NCAA 2010 better be the year of defense, game is fun but defense needs an overhaul.

I hope if they fix anything at all on the second patch it is the cpu sliders. I am having a difficult time trying to get the game to play like I like it. I handle just super simming kick offs and punts and everything else if they just would fix sliders.

# 273 baumy300 @ 07/20/08 02:01 PM
As long as they fix the pass rush issue, everything will be fine.

# 274 Anti Honor @ 07/20/08 02:13 PM
Fixing the pass rush, and not the CPU sliders, would make the game even more easier, if that's possible.

So what is the patch going to fix? I know the roster issue will be resolved but is that it? Sorry if this has already been answered.

# 276 Jukeman @ 07/20/08 02:21 PM
OMT, could you guys (in patch #2) patch in that "demo" camera angle in campus legend mode (when u watch a play) to cpu vs cpu play instead of the default camera, or even that press box wide cam when u look at highlights? that would be really appropriated!

Adam, I appreciate you being upfront with us and interacting here as much as you have.

I'm not asking for, nor do I think that anybody else is asking for, an exact date for the second patch release. Furthermore, I understand that there's a lot involved in terms of what happens after the patch leaves the studio before it gets released to the public.

But it would go a long way if we could get some sort of general timeline for when you expect to complete work on the second patch. Again, I'm not asking for a specific date or anything, but if you could give us a general sense of how much longer you expect to work on it (one or two weeks, or a couple months), that would be great.

As soon as I do that, people will take it as a promise and spread it around. When something comes up that delays the patch, I'll be called a liar.

I thought I did answer this. We fixed the cause of the crashes that Fairdale and CDJ saw, which is editing the roster after going into the EA Locker. I posted the temporary workaround when we found it, which was rebooting your console after going in there.

Then we fixed the bug that is preventing full rosters from being done. If you don't go into EA Locker, you can edit about 115 teams before you run into crashes and disappearing teams.

Basically, there were two ways to cause the same bug. We found them by combing through the code as we couldn't get reproducible steps from the guys who had experienced it.

We also made a one line fix that will stop the depth chart from being reordered whenever you edit a player. I hope this will make the roster editors feel a little better after what they went through hitting these bugs. I know they've been asking us to stop the depth chart reorder for a while. You can still run into a harmless bug if you change a guy to a position that we don't allow you to put him at (ie put a QB at DT), but it is easily solved by reordering him out of his old position in the depth chart which you'll want to do anyway.
