News Post

We have identified and fixed the bug causing the game to crash when editing rosters. This bug also causes teams to disappear and team ratings to change.

The patch is being tested tonight, and assuming all goes well it will be submitted tomorrow for certification. The expected release is in 5-10 days.

Until the patch, we recommend you cease editing rosters. Rosters that have been corrupted by the bug will not work after the patch. If you have a roster in progress and have not encountered any freezes or missing teams, it will work after the patch. There is a possibility a roster can be corrupt and not have surfaced any problems yet. This is why we recommend that you stop or back up your work among multiple save files.

We are also fixing the bug where the depth chart gets reordered after editing a player with this patch.

These are the ONLY fixes in this patch. We are planning on a 2nd patch with many fixes, but we had to get this one out the door.

We appreciate everyone's patience on this matter.

Special thanks to CDJ, 21SEC, and Fairdale Kings for helping us track this down.

I really don't IMHO think the defensive AI is the problem, it's just that the offensive passing is too perfect. If they tone down CPU passing and tone up OL run blocking, things should be ok.

Heres what I would like to see, EA come out with the game in July. However this will be a demo disc and available to a few people. Then the guys who helped them this year can test it in real situations. Im talkin about the guys from operation sports. The testers could talk openly about problems with programmers and get the disc fixed before it is released to the public. Of course this would make the disc later depending on how many problems get ironed out. This could also make the game more expensive. Then the disc will be released and then any problems that pop up can be easily patched.EA will show they care about their fan base and the public gets a better representation of football.I say this is a win win situation now will EA go for it?

I have been editing in 2 or 3 players real names on some of the top 20 teams in my dynasty since I didn't want to download any of the rosters after reading about all the problems. I also put in the real player names on my user controlled team, ASU Sun Devils.

After I read OMT's statement I wasn't sure if it was in regards to not downloading anyones rosters from the locker and then editing them or if it meant not to edit at all regardless of whether your doing it yourself or if you downloaded from the locker.

I would like to know this as well.

Exactly.

What they need to do is hold the community day events earlier, while there is still time to make adjustments to the game. Lot's of the gameplay issues were recognized during the community events, but it was too late to patch.

As for the depth chart bug, I'm sure they will test for it in the future. EA has responded to this one quickly.

For those of you that keep asking if the 1st or 2nd patch will work with a dynasty that is already started, it will not.

Unless EA changes something from how they have done it in the past, the dynasty file isn't affected by any patches made to the game.

So good that I can still pick it up and not have the game feel the same as the last after all these months. It made the gameplay so good that additional flaws or absent features were easily forgiven by the people who played it.

I know football is infinitely more complex than hockey but with one single focus I think it could be done.
Amen.

How does pushing back the release help long term. After the first year (release in July last year then aug the next) you jump back to the yearly dev cycle, just as we have now.

Gameplay patches don't deal with gamesaves at all. The executable that is running is what is changed so any saved season will have the gameplay changes incorporated once patched. However, if the patch changes ratings to players in the default roster that will not be seen in your dynasty.

The roster patch will prevent certain actions from corrupting roster files but it can't fix rosters that are already messed up. This is why they suggested editors just stop editing.

I am really enjoying this game a ton. Any chance the "2nd" patch could fix the CPU and running out of bounds unnecessarily? Is that a problem with the game logic? Curious. Thanks.

The CPU players have been running out of bounds since the original Madden football/NCAA. It has gotten a little bit better, but it is something that should have been eliminated YEARS ago. I don't get it. Also, what is the deal with the weird angles the CPU will take to the ball carrier? Sometimes they will escort them into the endzone instead of hitting them. There was a problem like this on the PS2 version of NCAA 08 last year that really hurt an otherwise really good game. Wide open gameplay is just a little too wide open. I like the game overall, but I think I would have been happier if they would have just fixed the problems with NCAA 08, like the CPU AI, and LB INTs.

this is why together (ea with the community) the game can continue to get better. adam is on these threads constantly, heard about a bug, got guys on it, and with the help of the community (cdj, fkings, etc) the cause was identified, fixed and now we'll get a patch. i agree that ea games lately have not been perfect, but no game is. you have got to stand up and applaud the effort by adam and the rest of the staff because they are trying to give us the best possible college football experience (videogame wise). they could have gone away and hid when the bug popped up and the average gamer who isn't concerned with rosters would have bought the game anyway and ea still would have made money hand over fist. i guess what i am trying to say is THANK YOU...

So has the patch gone to certification at microsoft? Any news since the first post? Are we still expecting it next week?

It is in the certification process. Not sure when it will be out though. We guessed 5-10 days, but that was assuming we could get the process expediated. That is out of my hands, so I don't know.

Sorry if I missed this, but did you ever explain what the whole problem was with the rosters anyhow? Why did ti mess up when you tried to edit something? If you posted this earlier I apologize, I'm just curious what it was.

Hey Adam,
Any chance in future versions to alow more time during timeout. I mean when I call a defensive timeout I need time to think about my focus and then to think about my play, but I am only alloted 12 seconds. Even on the offensive side I am only allowed 25-30 seconds. I like to really think about my play and I may need to find it in a certain formation. I mean gives us a minute and when we pick a play we get the regular 25 second clock. In years past of MAdden or NCAA, I don't remember which, we had more time and I always enjoyed it.

Thanks

Madden was patched last year. It didn't fix my franchise. It still froze when there were no FBs to sign. It still had a stupid amount of fumbles and the AI was still magical.

Not that it matters at this point, I guess, but you may have been too far along for it to take effect. The issue (as I recall) was with FA's disappearing, so if you had already lost your FA's then the patch was useless to your franchise, I'd imagine, as it fixed the issue causing them to disappear (and did not, obviously, bring back the ones that did). I never had the problem at all, as the patch came out before I got far enough for it to be an issue, but it sucks that roster/franchise issues are so prevalent in next gen sports games.
