News Post

We have identified and fixed the bug causing the game to crash when editing rosters. This bug also causes teams to disappear and team ratings to change.

The patch is being tested tonight, and assuming all goes well it will be submitted tomorrow for certification. The expected release is in 5-10 days.

Until the patch, we recommend you cease editing rosters. Rosters that have been corrupted by the bug will not work after the patch. If you have a roster in progress and have not encountered any freezes or missing teams, it will work after the patch. There is a possibility a roster can be corrupt and not have surfaced any problems yet. This is why we recommend that you stop or back up your work among multiple save files.

We are also fixing the bug where the depth chart gets reordered after editing a player with this patch.

These are the ONLY fixes in this patch. We are planning on a 2nd patch with many fixes, but we had to get this one out the door.

We appreciate everyone's patience on this matter.

Special thanks to CDJ, 21SEC, and Fairdale Kings for helping us track this down.

Don't worry Im a "troll" too for saying "EA should pay us to buy this game"...At least give us a discount for madden or something to make up for all these bugs and glitches that make the game an unfinished product. We are getting charged more for these next gen games and other than graphics, they are far worse than the last gen ones.

I never had the problem at all, as the patch came out before I got far enough for it to be an issue, but it sucks that roster/franchise issues are so prevalent in next gen sports games.
Not to mention the fact that every draft year the best 15 players were DE... but that's Madden not NCAA. However the flaws in AI are eerily similar.

If noticing all the bugs and glitches in this years game, makes us ''trolls,'' add me to the troll side, too - Because I think the game stinks, as it stands right now. Spending countless hours trying to find a way around the slider issue, is ridiculous. Complete game killer right there, at least for me.

Tried that. But without working sliders for the CPU, my skills are just so good, that winning every single game, just isn't as ''fun'' as I thought it would be. Now, I could go online and play against other people, but playing against 15 year olds, also isn't as fun as it was made out to be.

So, I'll wait it out, and see if the 2nd patch will include my ''fun'' factor. Otherwise, the game stinks. I do appreciate your attempt to make the game less of a stinker for me, though. There is some kind folk in the world after all.

Let's all keep some perspective here. Yes, the game has some bugs that should have been tested and caught before the game was pressed. I used to be in the video game/computer field, so I know that companies aren't testing enough these days. They rely too much on patches since they can. Issuing a patch in my day was a big failure (but, we did it sometimes) and the team caught heck for it. But, to be fair, these games and systems are much more complex than when I used to do it. But, it is all relative.

What I am personally happy to see is EA coming on here and addressing these issues to those of us on OS unlike in the past. They also have already made one patch to address the rosters issue, and they may be able to address some of the other glaring issues in another patch. I thought they were pretty quick about it, and I hope that MS gets it out this week. I am sure MS is quite a bureaucracy however.

Personally, I think that if some of the major bugs and a few gameplay issues are addressed we will have a solid game this year. It is already better than last years version to me, but to be honest with you, I have had more fun on older versions on the Xbox and PS2. If they don't address these issues in a patch, especially special teams, and completion % imo, then we shouldn't buy the product next year without trying it out first.

I got my piss and vinegar out yesterday, and so feel much better. I do have a question about this rumored second patch. Adam, of course, has said that he can't really comment on this at the moment, and I understand the reasons for that. Has it actually been confirmed by anyone in the know that a second patch is actually being worked on, that it will actually come out at some point? I ask because Adam's post didn't seem to provide a solid answer, and Ian's post about the overwhelmingly positive response and the inaccuracy of the "knee-jerk reactions" leads me to believe that there very well may not be a second, gameplay related patch to deal with things like completion percentages, handicapped defense, etc.

Please correct me if I'm wrong and there has been a hard confirmation--this is strictly and information-seeking post, not a flaming post.

Great news, soon I'll be able to edit as many things as I want without having to worry about my game crashing.

It IS in the certification process, but it hasn't been approved by central quality control yet. When it is, it will go to Sony and MS for their approval and release.

I just want to say, before anything else, that I am a fan of this series. I appreciate what all the designers and developers and testers and whoever else is involved in a game being made....I appreciate what they do.

That being said, it's a shame that this game is released with such major major defects. You know the very first thing everyone is going to do is change the names on the players because EA can't do it themselves. You know this. And you let it go. And you know people are going to notice the play clock resetting to 25 secs after the post play animations are done. Yet, no one notices these things before its released?

I realize that there are A LOT of things goin on in there, and you cannot be expected to catch every little thing, even with dozens and dozens of eyes looking for errors.... but these two things are extremely glaring and it is unacceptable.

Unacceptable for reasons that I can only speculate. I am not involved in game making, I am a simple customer that likes the NCAA Football series. Are you forced to spread your faculty too thin because you're making the same title for 4+ platforms? Do you not have enough time to make things work with having to release something every single year? I think solutions to those problems are clear to see, if those are indeed what is causing these things to happen year after year.

Madden 08 went its entire lifespan without a fix to freezes in its dynasty mode. You simply couldn't play a dynasty after year n because it would freeze when you tried to sim the rest of the week after you were done playing your team's game that week. Not to mention the deal with the free agents disappearing after years as well.

Point is, no....you're not going to catch everything. Nor should I or anyone else expect you to. But these things are painfully obvious to the end user and they need to be fixed before a customer pays for your product.

I really want to get across how much I like this game every year it comes out. This year's version looks absolutely stunning. I like the recruiting, I like the high school playoffs haha...I like the coke zero ads when the announcer says it. Etc, etc, etc. There was an awful lot of time put into this year's game and it shows tremendously.

What exactly is the whole process and why does it take so long? I'm not asking 'cause I'm in a rush, I'm just curious as to what goes on behind the scenes. Thanks.

Quick response, I think the play clock was done that way on purpose. it was like that in the demo. if it has been stated by EA that it was in fact a mistake, then it is a valid (and obvious) bug.

the rosters thing, however, would have been a very difficult thing to catch. We've seen at least 2 rosters go up that were completely named. I get the feeling EA tested the rosters on a few teams, uploaded them to EA locker, downloaded, and once they saw it worked, they decided it was fine. That's a completely acceptable way to bug test something. You cannot expect them to completely test every possible aspect of roster editing, as it would take way too long. We had people on this board editing 15-20 teams before encountering any problems, and like I said, 2 of them were successful. How were they supposed to catch it?

We have our studio QA verify it is ready for submission. Then we send it to CQC (central quality control) for verification. If they think it is good, it is off to Sony and Microsoft for the same things. If they are cool with it, it is released. The patch process is just like the game process, just much quicker. Why does it take so long? I guess it has to do with how busy they are. If there are other games and stuff that came in first, they are addressed. Certainly if it is a patch that fixes a big issue and doesn't require as much testing, it is faster.
