Re: 1964(and on)Philadelphia Phillies Historical Simulation-OOTP 8

Great News!!!!!
The technical support team of OOTP has found the reason for the nasty bug that was affecting my league causing the game to crash when one of my pitchers was injured. It has now been fixed which means that my dynasty can now continue indefinitely.

Re: 1964(and on)Philadelphia Phillies Historical Simulation-OOTP 8

Thursday July 9,1964
Phils Strategy Comes Up "Short"
Connie Mack Stadium Phila,Pa.-In an effort to get a leg up on Cincinnati in this weekends pivotal series,Phils manager Gene Mauch decided to pitch Chris Short on 3 days rest but the decision backfired as Short tired quickly and the Reds took full advantage roughing up Chris for 6 hits and 5 earned runs in just 3 innings pitched. The Phils would rally late but came up just short as Cincinnati won the game 8-7.Here's the box score.

Reds Score 2 In 9th To Upend Phillies 3-1

Connie Mack Stadium,Phila,Pa.-In a tightly played pitchers duel, the Cincinnati Reds used their running game to great effect as the were able to defeat the Phillies again, this time by the score of 3-1.With the win,the Reds have now pulled even with the Phillies with an identical record of 49-32,two and a half game in front of third place St. Louis. In the game today, the Phils jumped out to an early 1-0 lead courtesy of a Johnny Callison first inning double that scored Tony Gonzalez who singled to lead off the inning. The Reds would tie the game in the 4th with a Leo Cardenas two out RBI single. The game would remain tied at one until the 9th inning where the Reds Johnny Edwards led off with a single to right. The slow a foot Edwards was then sent to the bench for pinch runner Chico Ruiz. With Leo Cardenas at the plate and the count 1-1,Ruiz broke for second in a steal attempt and wound up at third base when Clay Dalrymple threw the ball into center field.Cardenas would then ground out scoring Ruiz dashing the Phils hopes once again. The Reds would add an insurance run later in the inning off of a Frank Robinson single but it wouldn't be needed as reliever Harvey Haddix pitched a scoreless 9th to earn his 4th save. Here's the box score.

Allen's 8th Inning 2 Run Double Gives Phillies Much Needed Victory!

Connie Mack Stadium,Phila Pa.-Phils slugger Richie Allen made his only hit of the day count as he drove in two huge runs with a blistering 8th inning double down the left field line that gave the Phillies the lead for good in what would be a 5-3 Phillies win.The Reds struck first in this one when Deron Johnson absolutely tatooed a Claude Osteen pitch into the upper deck of Connie Mack Stadium for a 3 run home run and a 3-0 lead after 4.the score would not change until the 7th when the Phils after doing nothing at the plate all day, finally showed signs of life when with 2 on and one out,Gene Alley's RBI ground out would be followed by a clutch 2 out double by Pat Corrales closing the gap to 3-2 after 7.Johnny Klippstein would enter the game in the 8th allowing a mere 2 hits the rest of the way setting the table for Allen's heroics.Todays win moves Philadelphia one game ahead of Cincinnati for the National league lead. Here's the box score.

Culp Scalps Milwaukee 6-1 In Game 1 Of Twin Bill

Connie Mack Stadium,Phila Pa.-The Milwaukee Braves have come to Philly for a 3 game set with our loveable Fightins' starting with a doubleheader today. In game one,Phillies starter Ray Culp was in total command as he held the big hitting Braves to just 7 hits and 1 run in the complete game victory. At the plate, the Phils were able to frustrate Braves starter Joe Horlen who besides giving up 5 hits and 5 runs(4 earned) in just 5 innings pitched,he also walked 6 Phillie batters and never seemed to find his groove as he lost for only the second time this year. The Phils big three of Cater-Callison-Allen all had two hits and a run scored apiece,Allen also knocked in a run,his 79th.Adolfo Phillips, known more for his defensive skills, contributed with the stick today as well hitting a mommoth home run in the 8th,his 2nd of the year. Here's the box score.

Phils Win 3-2 In 17 Inning Marathon!
Connie Mack Stadium,Phila Pa.-The Philadelphia Phillies and Milwaukee Braves took each other to the brink of exhaustion going 17 hard fought innings before Phillies pitcher John Tsitouris ended the game with an RBI single to left scoring catcher Pat Corrales giving Philly the 3-2 victory.Phils first baseman Danny Cater put the home team on the board in the bottom of the 4th with a two out RBI single that brought home Richie Allen. The Braves would tie in up in the 5th courtesy of a Bob Bruton RBI double. From then on,it was all pitching as the Phils Chris Short and the Braves Curt Simmons battled fiercely all afternoon. While neither pitcher figured in the decision, they both made their mark on the game with Short going 8 innings while allowing 6 hits and 1 earned run and striking out 7.Simmons went 7 and allowed 5 hits and 1 earned run, while whiffing 4 Phillie Batters.Entering the 9th tied at one,the Braves got back to back one out singles by Hank Aaron and Joe Torre bringing Dennis Menke to the plate to face reliever Johnny Klippstein.Menke came through in a big way as he doubled home Len Gabrielson who was pinch running for Aaron.Following a Gene Oliver walk, the Phils pulled the ineffective Klippstein throwing Jack Baldschun into the bases loaded one out fire.Baldschun responded big time striking out Eddie Matthews and Ray McMillan to end the inning.Following a Rich Allen strikeout to start the bottom of the 9th,veteran left fielder Frank Thomas smoked a 375 foot line drive home run to tie the game and send it into extra innings. The extra frames were dominated by pitching as neither team could get anything going until the 17th where Tsitouris besides being the winning pitcher, was also the game winning batsman. Here's the box score.
