1964(and on)Philadelphia Phillies Historical Simulation-OOTP 8

Since my last attempt was abruptly halted,I've decided to start again. This time though we're going to start with the most villified team in Philadelphia sports history,The 1964 Phillies. For anyone who dosen't know the story, here's a little history.Going in to 1964, the Phillies were seen as an up and coming team that had a chance to maybe finish in the top half of the National league. But spurred on by all stars Jim Bunning,Chris Short,Johnny Callison and rookie sensation Dick Allen the Phillies found themselves with a 6 and a half game lead with 12 to play. What happened next is known in Philadelphia simply as the collapse. The Phils proceeded to lose 10 straight games losing the pennant to the Cardinals in the process. The Cardinals would go on to defeat a banged up Yankees team in the World Series 4 games to 3.Before we head back in time to 1964 I thought I'd give everyone a short summary of what Out Of The Park Baseball is all about.OOTP is a baseball management simulation which allows you to relive the history of Major League Baseball starting in any year after 1901.My role in the game is of General Manager and Manager. Here are the ground rules I've chosen to use during this run through history.First,I plan on starting in 1964 and working my way to the present day.Expansion will occur as it did in real life as will team movement. As far as incoming rookies go,rather than having a draft they will be assigned to the team they broke in with.I've chosen to do it this way to get a more accurate simulation.I've set trading to "hard" with preference set to "favor prospects".I will only control the Phillies, every other team is CPU controlled.Lastly,I can be FIRED! If that happens,I will take a job with another team and continue the sim.If anyone has any questions or suggestions don't hesitate to ask I'm always up for new ideas.Ok,lets go back to 1964.......

OOTP8 actually allows you to go all the way back to the very first season, 1876.

I read about that collapse. The Red Sox went through that same kind of collapse 14 years later.

As did the Mets last yearIronicly the Phils were the beneficiary of their collapse.

Phillies Trade Cal Mclish for slugger Frank Thomas

Clearwater,Fl-Philadelphia Phillies GM John Gindville has just confirmed that the Phils have just made a deal with the New York Mets that will send 38 year old pitcher Cal Mclish to New York for power hitting first baseman/left fielder Frank Thomas. The 34 year old Thomas is in his 14th year of professional service with a lifetime batting average of .267 with 272 career home runs and 900 RBI.He's expected to be the regular first baseman until young Danny Cater is ready for the job.Roy Sievers it seems is the odd man out and will most likely be dealt before the end of spring training.
