To be honest, I don't care about most of the stuff mentioned. Tiny details don't bother me, graphics don't affect how much I enjoy a game unless they are truly shocking, I don't play online much so bunt cheesing isn't an issue for me and I'll never play Retro Mode as I still have a megadrive somewhere, so if I wanted to play crap games from then I'd just dust that off.

But despite all that I'm very pleased with what I saw, entirely because of the ball spin. It looked great, the ball was tailing and dipping properly and you could instantly see a more varied amount of hits, which is a complete game changer for me. Contact guys have been pretty useless due to the ball not dipping, but this should fix that and make the game a much fairer balance between contact and power.

The baserunning I'll have to see for myself as they were clearly just messing around and had a slow baserunner, I don't think I saw them successfully steal a base. I like the idea of a more in depth stealing though as at the moment it's way too simplistic.

I'd like to have seen a bit more about how the computer plays like a human, as along with line drives not dipping, opposition outfielders all doing their best Jim Edmonds impression grew to be one of my biggest complaints with the current game. If that's toned down and the balls spin properly, that would be pretty much the two biggest things I was after, along with fielders showing the correct amount of urgency instead of soft tossing it while the man beats out the throw. (which they also said they'd fixed, but again hard to really show on camera)

All very positive in terms of the things I actually care about, now I just need to have my fingers crossed that they've done something interesting with Franchise Mode.

As some others have said batters with very low bunt ratings seem to be able to put down perfect bunts way to often!
Ramone mentioned this earlier.

And that's the beauty of streaming an unfinished game, we worked on it a lot then streamed and found something else to tune which you'll see on Wednesday.

Still haven't been able to watch the stream.

I tried pulling it up here at work but the site is blocked.

EDIT:

For those like myself who haven't been able to catch the full stream yet and can't access the site at work, it is up on Youtube. Thanks to HozandMoose for uploading to Youtube!

Everybody always thinks that modes or features they are not interested in seem pointless.

If it brings in a few more fans to the game then it is not pointless. If it allows me or anyone to have friends over who do not own the game over and lets to jump into a fun head to head game without me dominating then it is not pointless.

It also seems like some people seem to believe that a stock PS4 has unlimited graphic and computing power. It wasn't even comparable to a good gaming PC when it came out 3 years ago.

1. What is up with the slow motion and pausing?

There is clearly a pause when the catcher is throwing the ball on a steal attempt. And then there is this slow motion affect when the base runner is sliding into second! I absolutely do not like seeing this at all and in my opinion makes gameplay feel more like Arcade baseball

I really hope the catcher Pausing and Slow Motion can be disabled or even better just removed from the game!
A better idea would be to do it this way: When a runner tries to steal, the meter pops up on the screen immediately and you can begin preloading the throw...this is how it works now but without the meter.

There should still be enough time for this to happen without stopping the action or going into slow motion...not sure why they didn't do it this way.

If it's too difficult to time without pausing, then the forgiveness of the meter can be relaxed a bit.

I think arcade features should be avoided whenever possible, and this one is certainly avoidable.

  • We are in crunch, it's not easy to pull people away from their day-to-day to do these streams

  • Graphics, WIP same as every year look at the first stream or vlog from any year then reference it with the last one.
  • Graphics............13th.............:-)

You know you guys love OS. We have unrealistic expectations sure, but it's all out of passion for the sport we all live and breathe. You guys always seem to do so much with a small team and your raise the bar every year. Thank you.

My only minor critique is that the grass and dirt color seems, just off. Grass should be a richer darker green. MLB teams spend LOTS of money on water. Dirt still lacks texture too. Just feels like brown concrete.

I also realize this is an early stream so I hope to see it all have the WOW factor during the graphics stream.

As far as Progressive Field, some nice improvements. Love the full LED board, the out of town scoreboard in the wall looks so much better, and the tarp down the line finally. (I think I may actually be responsible for that

Looks like they added some stuff to the upper deck in right, but still no names next to retired numbers. And I know I mentioned it before, but the flags need changed, but Adam said he passed it along so hoping for the best.

Honestly, my only disappointment is that it will look and most likely run better on the PS4 Pro. Which I won't be getting any time soon. But it's not like I didn't expect that.

Oh, and the Indians socks are still blue. Now that socks aren't part of the style guide I really hope they can change them to red. But overall its looking great. I can't wait!
The Show has never put names next to retired numbers as far as I know (pretty sure they have to pay a licensing fee for that). Go to Miller Park and Minute Maid Park and look at the retired numbers on the stadium walls...................you'll see what I'm talking about.

Admittedly, I wasn't able to watch the live stream yet. I know folks said they saw issues w bunts still being too effective, but how did manual outfield play look? Do we still see line drives going through your OF?

I don't think they ever controlled the outfielders.

I am going to nitpik. The clouds are moving the opposite direction the flag is moving. Again. Still. Bummer.

I'd like to see them remove the attribute bars under the numbers. I can't see any reason for them if the rating is displayed numerically.

I hope this does not make people without the PS4 Pro hate me but I really have a feeling the grass and dirt will look much better on the PS4 Pro then the standard PS4. And also "HDR" I think should really help make everything look more color accurate and photo realistic. Good news is I think the standard PS4 supports HDR too.

Just a feeling that is all

I am not sure it is pointless. I don't think the devs put in or intended to put in alot of time on this mode. They mentioned they wanted to include because of Griffey. I have been playing video games almost 50 years. That is probably 30+ years more than most people on these boards. Many probably have never heard of Magnavox Odyssey. My point is I don't think many will play this mode because most people playing today weren't even alive or old enough to remember consoles like Atari 7800. Even though I enjoyed video games during that era, I would never go back to that era. I do like the ability to play games in the stadiums from the 90s. And although MVP Baseball was great for its time, I would never go back to it either. I got bored "watching" retro mode after 5 minutes.

Ramone says there is plenty more room for graphics update. My only "gripe" is that the player models are not next gen. Just not sure why that is. But I suspect there is a good reason (unrelated to memory) why they have not been able to unleash that graphical power thus far?

# 155 baseball_fever @ 02/10/17 12:11 PM
My main area of criticism is just a small thing and I will piggy back on what Tnixen said about it. But I realllllly dislike the "early, perfect and late" words that now appear in regards to the timing on the pitching meter. Very unnecessary clutter. Otherwise, keep up the fine work guys!

# 156 ARoid1313 @ 02/10/17 12:40 PM
if this was the only gameplay stream I figured its worth asking now,
has anything been done to analog pitching by chance? felt a bit too easy to master last year even on the highest difficulty, just wondering if there were any tweaks to difficulties and interfaces options in general.

see this is why I wish more people were upset with Sony slapping early adopters in the face with the pro. I will now be playing an inferior edition of my favorite sports game.

All we got out of PS4 Amateur was a 1 "next gen" edition last year.

Please pretty please let this be so

We used to be able to disable the home run celebration camera several versions ago and then they took it away for some reason. It is by far for me the number one feature that Sony took away that I miss!

I think there was once a time where somebody said they never take things away only add to the game but that really is not the case any more. I am just trying to understand how having the home run celebration camera as an option in the settings would be a bad thing?
