NBA 2K17 News Post

I had the chance to visit the studios at 2K this week and get an advance sneak peak of NBA 2K17. For full disclosure the trip was paid for entirely by the folks at 2K.

The first thing I want to tell you about NBA 2K17? It has nothing to do with the game itself directly, and everything to do with the people who work on this game year-round.

The wonderful folks at 2K Games, and specifically the team members I met in San Francisco on Tuesday afternoon -- Ronnie, Jeff Thompson, Erick Boenisch, Mike Wang, Ryan Peters, Chris, Czar, and many others -- are folks who are incredibly passsionate about their craft and the game they are producing. They were very welcoming and displayed a lot of that passion while describing what NBA 2K17 is bringing to consoles this year.

While I plan to dive a lot deeper into the topics I'll share below in the coming days, I wanted to at least get some of the nitty gritty out for folks to see and to begin discussing...

A couple of rule changes i would love for them to revert back to is handchecking and oblish defensive three seconds.

If someone's mastering their timing more power to them, just have to guard the shots tighter and hope he's not excellent going inside too.

Now what NBA players CAN'T do is sprint 100 mph past your defense/lead pass go baseline and get wide open dunks all game with your defense incapable of getting back in time

If one or two fall, I don't mind it. It becomes a problem, however, if the frequency reverts back to post-patch 4 of 2k15. If you played Rec during that time, I want you to tell me that shots fall that frequently IRL, especially with 1-2 people in their grill. And that's the fear I have if the stick gets the bonus that i think it may receive once 'mastered.'

I really hope we're able to contract our MyLeague down to, say, 25 teams if I want to do a Euroleague. Also give us the option to select the balls and refs. Not a big thing but it sucks running a Euro ML and having the NBA refs and balls. At least leave them in during the home Euro teams games like it is in play now.

To add to that, an interesting, although I'm not sure if it's possible, idea would be to have an option to choose between NBA rules and FIBA rules.

Who teleported? I saw some pretty clean and logical rotations

So um, looking at the catergories for the playstyles, what category exactly does Free Throws fall under?

That sounds like some awful basketball equivalent to college ball.

Otherwise known as "real defense."
Which the NBA played for decades before overreacting to the 1999 lockout.

That said, I highly doubt handchecking will ever come back to 2K. The series debuted in 1999, right when the NBA removed it--the current weak defense is too ingrained in the engine and code. So I don't blame 2K Sports.

Defensive three seconds, though...man, I hope we can turn that off, or have that rule change be proposed between seasons. It'll actually make the midrange shot somewhat viable again.

Lol real defense. If you say so. Real defense led to awful basketball during the 90s.

The game is much better for getting rid of those rules. Give me ball movement and cutting over dump and wait basketball.

Enough of it and it's the typical "My era will always be better" type article.

Completely ignoring the fact that league average points per game didn't change from the last 4 years with hand check and the 4 years after even with the faster pace.

Anyways, the real problem is calling the 90s "real defense". Today they play "real defense" just like they played "real defense" in the 90s.

But we can take this out of the thread otherwise I'll be done.

I think the most interesting presentation feature is the audio specific to each arena. Really curious to see how big of a difference there is.

I have always wanted multiple commentary teams in a sports game. Just when you think the 2k team can do no more than the excellence they have shown over the years, yet they prove us wrong time after time.

I'll be cheering for them.

I already got into a verbal shouting match against one of my co-workers because I was playing as my Lakers & he was using the Warriors. So there's that.

I mean in the area sounds. That "LET'S GO LAKERS" would make the immersion amazing.

LD is arena specific lighting a thing or nah ? Because we heard about that a few days ago and now nobody's talking about it anymore. Was it ever a thing or the guy writing the hand's on preview just 'made it up' ?
