NBA 2K16 News Post

As mentioned earlier today, the NBA 2K16 patch #6 has already arrived for PlayStation 4 users, weighing in at 2.4GB. As soon as we get the patch notes, we will update this post. Until then, let us know what you are seeing.

Xbox One users will see the patch later, no official ETA has been given.

UPDATE: Here are the patch notes.
  • Updated player portraits for a number of players.
  • Tuned the effectiveness of long outlet passes for players with the Break Starter badge.
  • Delay branching from Kobe Bryant Back size-up.
  • Re-worked size-up dribble launches to prevent unnaturally explosive first steps.
  • Tune miss chances for deep downcourt and cherry picking.
  • Dock vertical and rebounding when you go behind the basket. Don’t reset 3-in-the-key offense timer in baseline behind paint for human controlled blacktop players.
UPDATE #2: The patch has arrived for Xbox One users.

UPDATE #3 (5-19): The patch is now available for PC users.

Sleepy jus posted video of the year!
How old are u cats that are crying about speed? Dude in the vid sounded about 6. I bet these dudes would've played inside drive or college hoops and said it was trash.
You now have to read angles use set ups, take adv of what d gives u. Oh wait that's what you do in real life to. Also defense angles matter now. Loving game now. Not sure why speed bursts would be considered a good thing. Athletic players still have athleticism. 24 has shown that in his vids.

Yep. I will purposely show you 1/4 or 1/2 of the dribble move I will nail you with, and gradually add pieces of the combo as you begin to pick it up.

It's amazing how many dudes will bite so hard on the Shamgod->Behind the Back combo only to get lost completely when I throw the spin move at the tail end of it.

There's so many ways to get to the rim. Even in real life. It's why guys like Shaun Livingston are monsters. Livingston will beat you with smart moves, and his brain. Rose and Westbrook get by on pure freakish athleticism. Curry uses a combination of both.

To all the whiners, I play mostly MyLeague/MyGM modes and this update is Godsend for me.

I love the game now. They should have released it like that then I would have played it all year long. Unfortunately, due to speed boosts and other stuff with AI and passing, I had to postpone playing it for solid 6 months. Now I enjoy the game which requires you to THINK and play BASKETBALL.

If you're a good dribbler you can still beat opponents. Russell is amazing at this.

Am I showing you someone going left to right the entire shot clock? What are you talking about? I am showing you CPU Russ exploding off the dribble. Which is the most comparable video to actual game footage of him doing the same thing that someone posted. You and him keep talking about irrelevant things.

You're talking about someone going left and right. And referring to speed boosters. I am saying 2K could have did something different instead of taking the whole explosive driving animation out to combat that. And he's showing videos of the regular running animations and going past a big dude.

Then saying he "peep game" when he can't even explain what he peeps lol. Like I am making up something or trying to stick to something. It's a fact the animation is gone. I was just wondering what they could've done differently but the game is still fine. Not like it's broken at all or I am saying you can't get past people. Just the best animation of showcasing a quick first step or athleticism is gone. Hope you're still not lost.

I get what you're talking about Jrocc. There is a difference between that animation in your video with Russ setting up his blowby versus people abusing speed boosting tactics to get an unnatural burst resulting in eyesore ISO ballwatch for at least half the shot clock smh.

Exactly. I guess it's just mentality...

As much as the 'youtubers' are criticized, they take time to learn every move (and exploit, lol) then adjust....

I mean it's not that hard to get bro lol. The animation was fine. The issue seemed to be speed boosters were able to do a size up and go back and forth stopping on a dime and then boosting again. All I am saying is something different could've been done. Maybe make people trying to go back and forth get the animation where 2K makes you stop after doing crossovers sometimes?

They stay ruining stuff though. Did the same thing for Crew years ago. Just hoping 2K finds a way to incorporate something similar next year.

I'm talking to dude. But like you said, I thought it was obvious I was talking about you.

I just want to know what game you peep when I am talking about something being nerfed. It's facts. You don't even know what the animation is really. "I don't know if it's the exact move" No...it's not lol. You just lost. You ain't got nothing much else to say cause you don't know what you talking about. Moving on...

I said I was moving on last night....we've had a full nights rest and you still on it . If you're in your feels, PM me, we can hash it out. Otherwise, no need to derail the thread anymore.

Since we heading in a Sim direction lets go ahead and take park cards out the game also. I'm starting to see these pop up more often now since the changes have been made. Most park card activations are coming from the scrubs too. Park Cards are being activated on the very first possession now. They don't even give the game a chance to play out.

Nerf the ankle breaker and stun animations also. People are coming down court spamming crossovers just to get to the rim. It's impossible to lock onto them or even get a bump animation. Your player just slides or gets stunned for a period of time. Needs a fix

These are all the risks you run by playing online. Take one move away, the idiots will just find and exploit something else.

The moves themselves are not the problem. The problem is the people who are playing the game.

You start nerfing all these moves that are valid, in game, real life options, then you take away the skills from all the genuine players who don't play cheese ball - how in anyway, shape or form is that fair?

You play online? Expect to deal with cheese. It comes with the territory. 2K shouldn't be removing or crippling moves which hinder the play of those of us who actually game in a sim manner. Thanks to that mentality, there are now several moves in the game that are basically useless because of it, that's just not on. (Spin layup, pass fake drive etc)

In no manner speed boost was ever sim or making sense for 2 reasons:

1) Player runs faster than his maximum speed without ball while doing it.
2) Player need 86 ball handling rating to do it, if its 85 he is suddenly MUCH worse in breaking defender. By this logic 75 vs 85 ball handling ratings makes less difference than 85 vs 86 . Don't recall if its exactly 86 since i never focused on doing it, but you get the point.

You gotta realize that unrealistic speed boost animations and too high difficulty to break slow/bad defender are separate issues. One is now fixed.

I should've been clearer in regards to nerfing player speed off dribble moves - quick guards will surely have taken a step back in terms of explosiveness now because of this patch?

I wasn't insinuating that this speedboost nonsense was sim, more so the other moves I mentioned that had been dumbed down in patches. (SPin layin, passfake drive etc)

This is all assumption on my part, as I only play offline anyhow and didn't even know about this speedboost thing until yesterday.

As I said though, the problem isn't the exploits, it's the players. Sim ballers wouldn't use that kind of garbage, but cheesers do, and online, for the most part, is a cheesers paradise, it's the nature of the beast.

Watched a video of a guy complaining he has to play team basketball to win now and how stupid that is lol

Alright, I finally got some games in with the patch. I do not play online. I am an offline only player, and if you call yourself of basketball, and you want that represented in a video game, you should have NO complaints about this patch.

I cannot BELIEVE some of the comments I'm seeing in here. This is what the community has turned too? Yall are really mad at them for making the game more realistic. That's crazy as hell for real, cause isn't this what the nba 2k franchise was built on, realism? Man, lemme address the bull I'm seeing in this thread.

Dudes talking about the game is too slow now? I feel like the game now has "weight" to it. Players aren't just zig zagging and twitching all over the court now. Play seems organized, with a purpose instead of 10 guys just huddling around in a crowd on the court. I can see plays develop, players moving to a spot, actual basketball being played and dudes are mad about this? There is a noticeable speed difference between PLAYERS now for sure. I can tell who's fast and who's not, and I can really get to the rim with those fast guys, and yall are mad about this? Come on ..

As far as a faster playing blowing by a defender, either yall aren't using the players with this skill, or you haven't the stick skills to pull this off. I was crossing fools up with Durant, spinning around them effortlessly to the rack. A quick hesitation move and blow by with Westbrook and I was slamming it at will. Are yall trying to just cross over and blow by with every player you control? Do you even run plays? Sometimes just running a play is the best way to get a guy open. I feel like this should be common knowledge but based on some of these posts, we live in an ISO only world. Crazy.

Shooting has also been tuned for the better. Before this patch, it seemed like me and the cpu were not missing anything. I'm talking 70% from 3 not missing anything. The game was pure arcade trash before this patch and that's putting it lightly.

I can now see operation Sports is close to being all online for this game. We don't even talk about the game anymore, it's nothing but complaints with no real conclusion or help.

This patch has actually made me enjoy this game again. I'm sure little warts and things will pop up, but after getting in a few games with it, some of the comments in here are blowing my mind. I feel like 24 and a few other cats are in here defending this game and we're far outnumbered. Is the sim crowd really this low now? It's a shame.

I play on superstar simulation, 12 minutes with 2K rosters. Game plays great for me now. As an advocate for the offline gamer, I fully support this patch.

This. The sim community is much smaller than the Cheese community ESPECIALLY in MyPark. Year in and year out there's cheese in 2K. It was last year, this year, and I guarantee you there will be cheese next year. It's a never ending cycle. I wish people would stop crying and just make the right adjustments and play the game. Both sides are complaining like crazy right now smh. Its ridiculous.

Haven't updated yet, getting bored of 2K16.

Did they update any player faces or coaches? I only play offline btw.

I still see play now online players comparing their gameplay to park players and vice versa . Different game modes . Different strategies .

I feel you.... Love the patch. It has balanced the game, period. It has showed all these #GlitchMade 2k "Gawd's" that they are trash; and brought the team and basketball strategy back... The sim crowd isn't that low, it's that the cheeseball community is so large and they came on strong to Operation Sports during last years game...
