While it's true that in the vast majority of cases competition will bring out the best results both for economic efficiency and consumer surplus, there are rare instances where less competition is actually more economically efficient. Sometimes so much to the extreme that a monopoly is actually the most economically efficient option.

This economic phenomenon occurs when either:

The market is very small (niche market)

The barrier to entry is very high (the initial investment of capitol, skilled labour or both in order to break into the industry is staggeringly high)

So here we have a niche market video game. I think that covers BOTH phenomenon.

If you want another example of how competition can be bad, please refer to the American airline industry.

Sorry folks for going so off topic, but I felt it was time teach some economics.

The Show had competition and they killed it.

I really wish that Batter/Pitcher analysis was more accessible than going through the pause menu. I use the heck out of those features and they really help you out during the game.

Also, love how many swings and misses I'm getting on the computer. Nothing like being able to throw 3 sliders down and away and watch the cpu swing and whiff at all three.

I was playing a game last night. I noticed how easy it was to turn a double play this year when the 1B starts the play. He gathers the ball and pivots from his knees throwing a strike to 2B. It's very fluid!

I'm digging it.

Love the hitting physics and when you miss a pitch it can hurt. Love the classic stadiums.

Uniforms and grass are still a weak point, but I'll be playing until next March. Thanks, San Diego.

Show looks pretty off to me, but it's always been way off with grass. I'll never understand why their grass is so drab and dead looking. It looks obnoxious sometimes. Devs apparently don't care much, or think what is there is good enough.

As for overdoing it lol nah, grass that is taken care of usually, depending on type, gives off a fairly lucid and green glow, especially at night. It's something the show does not replicate very well, yet it is important imo to real life simulation. Something just looks zombified about that 16 pic. Like all the warmth was just zapped out of it as in a stormy but bright white day or something.

Yes exactly, 15 finally had more vibrant grass colours and then in 16 it all went bland again [emoji848]

I mean some shots look absolutely stunning.

But when taking a closer loke at the grass it's like a green ice rink.

Check out this shot from 15, before selecting a pitch the grass looked like this. I hoped it would stay rendered like this all the time in 16, ok maybe not when the ball is in play but at least while pitching and batting. How it is now is a downgrade if you ask me. I guess it's too much for th CPU.

This is how it is in 16

This may not be new but it's new to me and I haven't seen anyone mention it.

Whenever my pitchers come to bat in sacrifice situations the count (using QC) is always 1-1. I appreciate that because it gives me a chance to lay down a bunt.

I always play in the AL (Astros) in my Franchise so it's possible that this is not new but while I'm working on sliders I've been playing with the Pirates in a Franchise that I'll eventually abandon. Just something I've noticed.

For those that have used QC in the NL in the past, is this new?

Yeah I believe they introduced 1-1 always counts for pitchers this year.

No, it has always been 1-1 in clear bunting situations with pitchers.

1st off the good...I'm having fun playing the game! That's the best part, for the past couple of years I've had to manufacture fun from the game...this year, not so much, fun right out of the box, not much slider adjustment at all. Overall the gameplay has really gotten better. (Here comes the not so good) The graphics overall have improved, but are really stale in others. This is what ruins the imerison for me, it's the players body types, and well players in general. I know that we won't always get the whole MLB player representation...but c'mon some big leaguers have been on the big league squad for a while and still haven't been scanned. For instance, I'm a Cardinals fan, most of the roster has been off the last 3 years!! Yes 3 years! I'm becoming increasingly frustrated and annoyed by this. We are one the best teams in baseball for the last decade and we can't get any love?! Yadi's scan has been off for years, Randall Grichuck(sp?) hasn't been updated, Kolten Wong is just off, I can't explain it, but he is...along with a few more that are just off...I know we haven't had a roster update, but it's been years since a Cards update so why would I expect this update to be any different? I can't be the only Cards fan that feels like we get the short end of the stick with the Show over the last few years...Am I?? Anyway, good to great game that needs to def. be REFRESHED, so to speak...

Not true. The 1-1 count for pitchers was introduced last year but was random in Mlb 14.

8th inning of an online game, winning 7-1. Smash a line drive up the middle, hits the pitchers leg and bounces toward first base. As the pitcher is running to pick up the ball, blue screen flashes up. Application error. I get a loss on my record. Awesome job guys. That makes all the sense in the world.

Defense is so gosh darn rewarding this year...I am loving it!

That is all.

So it was new in either 14, 15 or 16. [emoji38]

New in '15. I seemed to be the only person on the other side of the fence that was against the randomness in that situation when I was like, "I want to bunt, damn it." Apparently, everybody else was in their defense on saying, "It's realism, bro." I dunno, it has been addressed in some way though. Now we're playing slow-pitch softball rules haha.

I originally didn't see what the big fuss over the frame rate was until recently starting up MLB 2015 to play again. Though far from perfect, there's noticeably less frame rate drops in 2015.

Also, even though ballparks and environments for the most part are improved, I have to agree the player models have taken a step back. The player skin tones are so far off on some, it's become quite distracting for me. If this can be fixed via patch, please do so, SCEA.

There's also far too many "great" plays in the game. It wouldn't surprise me if this is something MLB would want, but it steps away from realism IMO. Not every slow roller to third ends up being a barehanded, 100% accurate rocket throw to first base highlight. Not every close double play chances are turned. But in this game, especially on default slider settings, it's close to automatic.

IMO a new game engine is way overdue, but I'm not counting on it as long as they keep pumping out PS3 versions along with PS4.

Probably, it's PBR. They pushed it way too hard in the game.

Yep, I really hope SCEA take a step back on this. Too many great catches, dive, uber throws ( it's far too easy to throw a bomb from OF to the catcher ) and so on.

# 559 LastActionHero @ 04/13/16 07:19 AM
Man I almost made a diving catch in the outfield yesterday...only it bounced of the outfielders arm [emoji20]

I haven't made a succesfull (outfield) dive since MLB 12 or something. The CPU flies around like it's nothing, I wish they could make it a little bit easier. Maybe show a marker on the place where you should trigger the dive when the situation is there sort of like when trying to rob a homerun. All optional ofcourse.

I absolutely love pitching this year. I have gotten so many swings and misses this year. The ability to set up hitters this year is far better than it has been in year's past.

LOVE IT!
