NHL 16 News Post

Hey guys,

So Sean Ramjagsingh (Rammer to most of you) has asked openly on Twitter for feedback on the latest tuner, and what better place than here for him to get constructive feedback to use? So here is what I want to do:

Post your feedback on the new tuner. But there are a few guidelines.

Post whether you commenting on offline or online gameplay

Post if you have altered sliders (for offline)

Post how many games you have played with the new tuner

Post constructively

This way we can give accurate and meaningful feedback. Post videos if you'd like, but again - keep it constructive.

Here are the tuner notes (Thanks Jake19ny!):

SEPT 28 - TUNER

Gameplay
  • Improved poke collisions to address issues where a puck would be dislodged even when the puck or puck carriers stick were not contacted.
  • Increased speed of player controlled goalie when using precision motion.
  • Increased the pass error for the lowest pass accuracy slider settings.
  • Tuned down agility and ability to generate speed when turning tightly with protect puck.
  • Lessened the effect of the speed penalty on the puck carrier slightly when stickhandling a puck.
OTP/EASHL only
  • Turned down effectiveness of AI players in online faceoffs.
  • Goalie will commit more towards the shooter/puck side of the ice to guard against short side shots.
  • Lowered the threshold to which a player is able to receive/pick up a puck cleanly.
UPDATE: (9/29) We have removed “Increased the likelihood to trip a player when a pokecheck goes into the opponents skates or legs.” after many players have stated that it resulted in too many tripping penalties.

isn't the 1.00 tuner the same as the one if you re install the game???

I have read on these forums that the 1.00 is not the original. I personally did some testing and didn't see a difference. I then deleted my nhl 16 profile from my ps4 and now the game is great again.

There seems to be a lot of confusion on this since EA does things and explains them very poorly. When the game is brand new the tuner is 1.00. You have the option of 1.00 and latest right out of the box. They are one in the same. The reason for two choices is because in the past EA would release tuner updates that would be 1.00, 1.01, 1.02, etc...for some reason beyond reason they don't anymore. So it goes like this:

September 11 tuner update overwrites out of box tuner still 1.00 and latest still one in the same

September 14 tuner update overwrites September 11 tuner still 1.00 and latest still one in the same

September 28 tuner update overwrites September 14 tuner update still 1.00 and latest still one in the same

September 30 tuner update overwrites September 28 tuner update still 1.00 and latest still one in the same.

You cannot go back to any previous tuner, sadly and inexplicable, other than out of the box. You can only go back to out of the box tuner on PS4 without wiping out all of your saved files and the minute you go online or click on HUT you will get the latest tuner again. Hope this helps clear things up because as usual EA has gone ghost.

I Played the heck out of this tuner and I made a huge mistake of trying to control/eliminate momentum/tilted Ice in this game instead of adjusting to it and trying to play better .
Since then I took my lumps but Im now finally having decent games on near allstar default win or lose .

Im not a slider guy but I do know if you change one key slider it makes the whole game change and not always in a good way and though its not better than the pre 9/28 its still fun playing and I do welcome a challenge .

While your post is somewhat clear..are you not contradicting yourself in your last paragraph?
How can you go back to the out of box tuner without wiping your files?
Surely you have to delete your profile to get the original tuner?

On PS4 you can delete just the user profile which wipes out the settings, your favorite team, and the tuner updates so your back to default out of box tuner. You can keep your rosters and seasons. From what I'm told by xbox users you cannot do that you have to delete everything.

Finally got round to trying the newest tuner yesterday, had nothing to lose; it was a fresh install, and I'm genuinely amazed at how poor it made the offline out of the box game play.

The game speed was all to pot and ignored at will, animation transitions seem to be skipped when the CPU was magically attracting the puck to themselves and the goalscoring was a joke. Absolutely terrible. Deleted everything on Xbox One and reinstalled. It did keep my user preferences curiously enough, synced those up from the cloud I'd assume.

What a disaster of a tuner. It made reasonably fluid gameplay into a choppy mess.

Gotta say, every day now i'm hoping to see gameplay tuner (1.04) has been installed. For me, tuners give at least hope of something better. Hopefully the tuner well hasn't gone dry already. That's a lot of hoping!!

wont get another one I don't think unless online gamers complain.
ea doesn't give two craps about the offline gamers.

Take it for what it is, as EA says one thing and does another, but after the last tuner they said they would continue to work on and improve the game. I will say as angry as I, and a lot of others are with the last round if tuners, EA has suprised me multiple times this year with their effort to listen to us. I'm hoping the long silence and lack of activity is because they are working everything out at once. I'm hoping we see a big patch that corrects a lot of bugs, glitches, and a few obvious missing things. A game tuner that makes everyone happy, and a roster update now that all teams have played several games. At the end of the day if they do that it would be better than just releasing little things here and there. I would rather they take time and get it right. Yes my optimism is somewhat surprising given the overall track record of EA but I do think they are actually trying this year.

Perhaps, but I'm not one those EA conspiracy theorist who thinks EA is out to screw us. I think they have a game with a seriously flawed AI engine and a budget that simply will not allow them to rebuild from scratch. I think they receive marching orders from corporate headquarters to focus on HUT and online. I think that hockey has one of the most passionate fan bases around and we are very hard to satisfy. I think if they can fix a few issues they will.

Very well said, I've been saying this myself for years. EA is a profit-driven corporation that probably cares a little too much about making a profit rather than consumer relations (both communication and making a good product).

I wholeheartedly believe that Rammer and his team do a tremendous job working with what they have resource wise. I totally agree that people above their heads are telling them to focus on online and HUT as that brings in the most money for EA. I'm a firm believer that if Rammer and his team had their way, we would have the realistic, hardcore offline game that we all crave. For now, we just have to take it for what it is and enjoy it for as much as possible.

I'd like to believe that you're correct, but I'm not so sure. I was fortunate enough to represent OS at the Community Day for NHL 10, and spent at least 45 minutes talking with Andy D'Agostini (who was then responsible for player ratings) about player separation. This was the first year they introduced the player attributes slider, and I shared my input from editing rosters for their PC game (especially NHL 2004) to help make players stand out. Needless to say not much has changed as there is little to no player separation in this game even today. You'll see it in the sim engine, but hands-on there isn't much there.

It may be a lack of interest, a lack of resources, or maybe a lack of talent in getting it done and implemented.

I think this ties into online gaming though. Before online gaming player seperation existed. Now they want a level playing field for online gamers so they can roll out 4 lines and still compete. I've been playing the EA NHL series since it's very first release and back in the day you would be hard pressed to skate around and score to many goals with Tie Domi.

I think this is actually another issue altogether. I'm not sure if it was just rumored or actually confirmed, but it's the Players' Associations in all the pro sports (not just the NHL) that are preventing much player separation from happening. I personally don't believe the guys on the NHL team have much say over the ratings. With that said, roster sharing would be a very welcome feature for '17.

In agreement with all of the above post.

I also find it interesting to note, in passing of course, "Community Day." Just a thought.

Now that you mention it, I heard this as well and it's totally believable. Roster sharing would be awesome and I sure miss NHLview
