NHL 16 News Post

Hey guys,

So Sean Ramjagsingh (Rammer to most of you) has asked openly on Twitter for feedback on the latest tuner, and what better place than here for him to get constructive feedback to use? So here is what I want to do:

Post your feedback on the new tuner. But there are a few guidelines.

Post whether you commenting on offline or online gameplay

Post if you have altered sliders (for offline)

Post how many games you have played with the new tuner

Post constructively

This way we can give accurate and meaningful feedback. Post videos if you'd like, but again - keep it constructive.

Here are the tuner notes (Thanks Jake19ny!):

SEPT 28 - TUNER

Gameplay
  • Improved poke collisions to address issues where a puck would be dislodged even when the puck or puck carriers stick were not contacted.
  • Increased speed of player controlled goalie when using precision motion.
  • Increased the pass error for the lowest pass accuracy slider settings.
  • Tuned down agility and ability to generate speed when turning tightly with protect puck.
  • Lessened the effect of the speed penalty on the puck carrier slightly when stickhandling a puck.
OTP/EASHL only
  • Turned down effectiveness of AI players in online faceoffs.
  • Goalie will commit more towards the shooter/puck side of the ice to guard against short side shots.
  • Lowered the threshold to which a player is able to receive/pick up a puck cleanly.
UPDATE: (9/29) We have removed “Increased the likelihood to trip a player when a pokecheck goes into the opponents skates or legs.” after many players have stated that it resulted in too many tripping penalties.

Is this a good thing, or bad thing?

Good for offline, bad for online. Apparently poke check spamming is a bit of an issue for online play, but all it did for offline was unnecessarily bump CPU tripping penalties by A LOT.

So did you mean the opposite of good for offline bad for online? I'm a bit confused by this statement.

# 45 Simple Mathematics @ 09/29/15 09:02 PM
In a perfect world, I would want a realistic amount of penalties with the full variety that we see in real life (including cross checking, elbowing, etc). But in the end, it doesn't really matter to me what type of penalties are being called as long as they exist and occur in a realistic amount.

So in the end, I want whatever tuner will give me a realistic amount of powerplays.

I think its good for Online because of people spamming the poke check they will now have to play better positional defense but bad for offline as mine and the cpu penalties have now tripled and mostly on slashing , hooking but the biggy is the tripping at least how I play for me and the cpu its just to sensitive .

Yeah sorry, flip-flop that statement. Sorry, was trying to read some threads and reply before I left work.

Bad for offline - too many tripping penalties.
Good for online - discourages poke check spam.

Wait....I'm taking this as they removed the part that increased tripping...so that's bad for online and good for offline. What they should do now is release a new tuner with the tripping thing back in but as 1.01. Let us offline gamers use the one they have now (1.00) and let online gamers use the new one. We will all be happy. You read Milleniums post, the tuner made online gaming better. So give them what they want and leave us off liners, who don't need to download latest tuner the ability to select the old one. Problem solved.

This was bad for online as well, in EASHL there nothing but 12 powerplays per team because of this. Its still an issue tonight as well so unless they just changed this within the past 2 hours, it still need to go down.

Very happy with this latest tuner. To me anyway, the game speed seems back where it was and much of the cpu hyper drive toned down nicely. As well as the ai ping pong passing. In short, i now feel as though i have a fair chance vs the cpu. EA actually seems to be listening this year. Haven't said this in a while.... nice job EA!!!

This sounds like great news can't wait to try.

LOL, my head is spinning with all these tuners.
So is this the 3rd tuner since release?

Thinking about picking this game up if/when a Black Friday deal comes around.
I imagine we'll be on tuner 23 by then, haha.

I played my last half hour of EA Access yesterday with the Sept 28 tuner. I really couldn't get enough. Lot of little things.

Impressed with EA's effort this year in NHL and also in Madden. Keep it up and lets get working on that roster vault. So many great roster creators out there and that would add so many varieties of game play etc.

Good job EA

Seems like EA updated the Sept. 28 Update! Like last year and there is no new Tuner version number again ( I hate this!!!)

And this Brand new one is playing really good!
Like the Tuner bevor September 28 .
Now Is See more loose CPU Pucks, more missed Passes, more CPU penalties.
Poke checking is good now. The Overdosed Monster Checking is done.
And now the game speed is back where it was
Great so far!!!
ill have to get this one when I get home, and never download another one.
I just don't want to have to mess with sliders all year.
The latest tuner I had to lower game speed and penalties.

Agreed! I've played video hockey since Mattel Intellivision and this version of the tuner makes NHL 16 the best video hockey game I've ever played. Feels like a real game of hockey. I played as Canada against Belarus. Belarus goalie went to get the puck in the corner, passed to his defence behind the net, he then sent a blind pass up the middle to one of my cpu teammates who then scored into the empty net while the goalie was scrambling to get back into the net. Never seen that before. Hitting is back, if well timed. As mentioned, lots of loose pucks (played with pass accuracy set at 0/0) on both sides. A really enjoyable hockey game. Well done EA!

Credit and thanks to EA for listening, The game is playing beautifully again. Funny they said they only took the tripping out, but I feel like the game speed is back to normal and it simply feels different, in a good way. EA said they will continue to update the game but I really hope they also listened and release the nest tuner under a different number and let us decide which we choose. Thanks again for quickly get on it.

I actually turned CPU penalties down 1 from MAX as they had 9 penalties.. I'll see if there is another tuner.. I did get two of them.

Seriously before I start to lose my mind...is anyone seeing anything besides tripping? After the first tuner fixed things, I was seeing a variety of things called....now it's just tripping....really ruins the game for me....only other thing I've seen called is maybe hooking....before these last couple of tuners, I saw slashing, high sticking, goalie interference, the goalie taking delay of game penalties, I even saw double minors, game misconducts and majors...and I might be wrong, but even a fight instigator penalty....now it's nothing but tripping....i bought a digital copy, can I uninstall it and just never go online to avoid getting the tuners?

That's the only penalty I see. The others have been non-existant.

I really hope they iron out the penalty situation. It was always frustrating that the only penalties I used to get (in NHL14 at least) were either tripping, or a bad boarding call despite hitting the guy from the side (got way too many 5 minute majors on what would have been a clean hit...).

That said, I would also be thrilled to find out that they got rid of the AI randomly hitting guys that they skated into. I remember when playing NHL14 I would lose my mind when I got send on the PK just because Berglund was skating through neutral ice and got close to a guy without the puck that he suddenly checked to the ground for no reason, getting me an interference call. Or defenders just murdering my players in front of the net with no penalty call.
