NHL 16 News Post

Hey guys,

So Sean Ramjagsingh (Rammer to most of you) has asked openly on Twitter for feedback on the latest tuner, and what better place than here for him to get constructive feedback to use? So here is what I want to do:

Post your feedback on the new tuner. But there are a few guidelines.

Post whether you commenting on offline or online gameplay

Post if you have altered sliders (for offline)

Post how many games you have played with the new tuner

Post constructively

This way we can give accurate and meaningful feedback. Post videos if you'd like, but again - keep it constructive.

Here are the tuner notes (Thanks Jake19ny!):

SEPT 28 - TUNER

Gameplay
  • Improved poke collisions to address issues where a puck would be dislodged even when the puck or puck carriers stick were not contacted.
  • Increased speed of player controlled goalie when using precision motion.
  • Increased the pass error for the lowest pass accuracy slider settings.
  • Tuned down agility and ability to generate speed when turning tightly with protect puck.
  • Lessened the effect of the speed penalty on the puck carrier slightly when stickhandling a puck.
OTP/EASHL only
  • Turned down effectiveness of AI players in online faceoffs.
  • Goalie will commit more towards the shooter/puck side of the ice to guard against short side shots.
  • Lowered the threshold to which a player is able to receive/pick up a puck cleanly.
UPDATE: (9/29) We have removed “Increased the likelihood to trip a player when a pokecheck goes into the opponents skates or legs.” after many players have stated that it resulted in too many tripping penalties.

I wish I knew how to do that I would post some vids for sure. My approach on defense, since this tuner, when it comes to poke check is to only do it when A) Your back skating with the defender and the CPU you is coming in on you. timing important. or B) when chasing down a CPU player wait until your almost side by side or slightly ahead and then poke. If your behind someone poke checking will almost always lead to a tripping call and that's fairly realistic. your better off going for the stick lift. Also repeated pushing of the poke button will almost certainly land you in the box, also not a bad thing. When I implemented this I saw a drastic reduction in my tripping penalties. Last game I took 5 penalties only 3 trips (two totally deserved). CPU however took 10 and 7 of those were tripping. I feel, while human play is important and its good that you cannot spam the button. I think the over abundance of tripping calls on the CPU is still too much. Hopefully someone in the know can get vids up.

Settings: Pro - 7 min periods - Penalties maxed - position locked

Game Speed 2
Pass accuracy 0 for both

Before tuner released, CPU would score consistently. Goalies were okay. I mostly won a majority of the games.

Post Tuner: Goalies are horrible. Playing as Tor against CAR, I scored 6 goals on 12 shots in the first period. Same sliders I was using previously.

Game lost that "almost SIM" feel and is now NHL Hitz arcade.
Goalie comes out of the crease way too much now, even if my player is right there. We're talking by the faceoff circle.

Game does feel "looser", but it's lost the SIM feel.
Skaters are faster and ratings don't seem to matter. A 70 spd rated DEF can skate toe to toe with a 85+ OFF spd skater.
Skaters on the breakaway are basically uncatchable.

Why can't we select the tuner we want anymore?

i possessed the puck for 85% of the game when i used the latest tuner.

game was pretty good before.
how do you delete a tuner??

You cannot pick through or delete the tuners because they just keep overwriting the old one.

I have PS4, so not sure about XBOX, but if you go to your game, click "options", you can view the update history and update notes. Don't think that it displays the tuner, but it will display any patch updates.

I know most play with Penalties maxed so has anyone left them at default settings ?
I have a feeling I might see alot less penalties but as many have mentioned I wish we could get back the prior tuner as it was perfect for offline IMO .

So my wish would be separate tuners for online and offline and no over writing tuners if any of this is even possible I think it would keep most everyone happy .

This is how online feels now. Poke check causing penalties is turned up too high.

Puck pickups are too random now. Slow gliding puck wil go right through a player.

Too easy to hit a player picking up the puck.

The changes they made were just overdone.

how many tuners have their been??
I don't play online. but I went online so I could get this latest tuner. never again. I though we could pick all tuners.
If I reinstall the game, will I have the tuner that made the game playable for offline play??
this latest one is not good for offline play at all.

If you delete the game and reinstall you will be back to the out of the box tuner. You may or may not automatically install the latest tuner but at the end of the day those are your choices. There is no way to select older tuners.

^this

I'm going to try lowering penalties one click at a time and see how it goes. Couldn't agree more about the old tuner being perfect and having the choice of tuners to appeal to everyone's individual preference.

So I just picked the game up yesterday (9/28) and forced the tuner update around 3 pm eastern time. The title of this thread seems to have changed from 9/29 to 9/28 so that's a bit confusing...

1. It sounds like there have been two post release tuners, a 'good' one for offline and then the most recent one which seems to have a negative review for offline play. Is that the case?

2. If I am strictly offline would I be better off deleting and reinstalling, i.e. go back to out of box?

To add, I'm not sure if Playstation Plus is required for any tuners. I don't have it as I never play anything online, so if it is then I think I still have the 'out of the box' tuner.

I played about 8 hours worth of BAP and was not happy (now I remember why I skipped '15) so I am thinking about starting Be a GM later tonight. However, I would like to stick to the same tuner throughout my Franchise and not have to worry about auto tuner updates.

Unfortunately out of the box tuner was not very good. They released a tuner that did make offline very good IMO but have now released one that messed up the offline a little bit. The tuners overwrite each other so we cannot go back. I expect EA will correct this because of the abundance of negativity surrounding this tuner however we could use more of the constructive input that was asked for by the mod who initiated this thread in order to help them do that.

Thanks Jake. When was the second tuner released, i.e. which one do you think I got on 9/28 at 3 pm eastern?

I can't wait to go home and play and provide some feedback...

I wish I could answer that with 100% accuracy but I can't. I would think you have the latest because I played yesterday afternoon Eastern time and downloaded then, just don't remember the time.

Finally ready to post mine:

5 games online, 4 in HUT, 1 In EASHL drop in.

I love it. I can't say enough how FANTASTIC the knowledge of not dealing with poke check spammers. I took some penalties, but by the end I was under control and knew if I was within stick length away from the opponents body, I use stick lift. If I'm last that, poke. If I'm behind - take a good angle instead of chasing.

I can't say enough how much more strategic this tuner made the game for me. Knowing I can't rely on the poke check to bail me out of a bad defensive play is phenomenal.

Plan on trying out off line this week, but so far I'm in love.

There was one tonight when I got home from work. So, two tuners in two days.

I think it is the same one, as they've made no notification of another tuner.

I definitely noticed the one highlighted.
