NBA 2K16 News Post

What’s happening family. It’s your man Da_Czar… I have started my sentences with this phrase too many times to count here on OS. With this, my first official blog post as a developer, I am returning to the format that started it all.

I know many of you here have been waiting a long time for us to talk about gameplay. Well the time has finally come so I won’t waste time with any more introductions.

Not including the fact that for the last 2 years we rewrote all of them to try and improve them. There is only so much a person can do in a year my man. No one is even close to the dedication we put in on the play side.
Lol! When put like that I get it BUT how about adding some (12-14) plays from regular teams to get some variety? I might be crazy and I get your point but playing CPU classic teams killed immersion for me with the play types and plays in the past. Maybe it's not a priority and I get it. Why would it be. But to get more variety I think a simple fix is not needing real plays from those classic years but add let's say for the 87 lakers you add a mouse play for magic, a punch play for worthy and cap, a alley play for SG for coop a loop and b Scott.

My point is adding plays from regular teams like that with your 16-18 plays gives us more variety without you having to do more. Maybe I'm in the minority here.

But the real problem was play types for legends. When Karl Malone doesn't have pnr man in his play type im the crazy one? Lol

I get you work in different departments but honestly spending any time on "classic plays" seems like a waste.

Generic plays will do just fine.. When you have that many plays on that many teams,

Worrying about a classic team that will for the most part only be used in quick games, a big waste of time.

My defenders were sliding all over the court last year and we are worried about little things like this??

People ask waaaaay too much of devs and what happens is they focus on so many things that the game comes out with crazy flaws.

I hope Case you keep doing what you do. And I hope the other devs stop losing sleep at night because Kobe changed shoe laces, and I hope they focus more on giving us an online version of my league, working on gameplay, servers, etc. I know not every department can do every thing... But the main point is your right. You can only do so much, put your focus on the right places

It has happened in nearly every game I played, like clockwork starting at the end of the third and going through the 4th quarter.

I thought I was crazy until (unprovoked) a friend asked if I had noticed an issue while playing the game too.

This is just about the greatest quote ever in NBA gaming history imo

Imagine a west coast swing where you will face the Warriors, Rockets, Jazz, and Mavericks all with their own unique game plans, freelance offenses, playbooks, and early offensive systems

My friends and I used to always joke about what we called "the comeback slider" in 2k. When you got a lead and the weirdest things start to occur.

Question for Da_Czar and as I don't use Twitter figured I'd put it here in case anyone else can enlighten me.

We all know by now that Superstar/Sim is used for Play Now Online.

We know that default slider settings have everything at 50 obviously while simulation has some of the shooting sliders reduced to the 40's, contact in the 80's, etc.

My question is based on something Czar said in a SimNation podcast a few weeks ago. The panel was discussing users overreacting on sliders and changing the setting from 50 to 100 in some cases and not realizing that they are "breaking" some other aspect of the game. Czar basically said the 50 setting was where they, as the Dev team, felt provided the most realistic result per slider.

So was 2K16 in fact tuned to Superstar/Default or Superstar/Sim? As I build my own sliders each year I'd like to know which setting was designed to provide the most realistic experience and go from there as my base.

Could you shed any light on that Czar or was that simply an out of context comment or even just referring to MyLeague settings, and that Superstar/Sim is indeed the intended experience?

Somewhere in Scott's thread he (Scott) says SS/Sim was intended. Da_Czar also made a couple of comments in that area of the thread as well.

Ah ok, must have missed it. Perhaps Czar was indeed just referring to MyLeague sliders.

I know the feeling. There was a large thread here about "comback ai" and whether or not it's even real. Be that as it may, I'm willing to accept the fact that it could be user error on my part.

hi all,

i have seen long posts from da_czar and scott on other websites talking about ice pick and roll, go over/under, dig post defense and it all sounded good.

so i went in an offline game to try these exiting defenses, i chose two different teams wizards vs golden state, i set the controller sides for both teams using 2 gamepads. i modified the pick and roll defense and post defense on all players for both teams and tested them in game using my gamepad while keeping the other gamepad active locked to a player on the other team.

to my surprise i discovered that what defenses i set are not reflected whatsoever during the game, for example i set ICE and players do double team instead, i set no hedge and i get hedges, i set go dig post defense, tried also front, back/3/4 top, 3/4 bottom and nothing seems to be reflected in the game. i tried different players and up to superstar difficulty.

now my question is, seriously WTF? are they buttoms for decoration or for strategy implementation?

anyone can enlighten me cause im kinda pissed about this.

What settings did you have for your POE on defense?
