NBA 2K16 News Post

What’s happening family. It’s your man Da_Czar… I have started my sentences with this phrase too many times to count here on OS. With this, my first official blog post as a developer, I am returning to the format that started it all.

I know many of you here have been waiting a long time for us to talk about gameplay. Well the time has finally come so I won’t waste time with any more introductions.

It's a year one implementation so if your a sim head just slow down a bit. LOL. Look for marketedly better but still ground to cover.

Has anything changed as far as how the CPU ai will call plays? Is it random?

From the quote below, it's not random. Based on ACE with lineup setting Czar has loaded into the team and defaults for later franchise modes where no players are recognized. ACE will prioritize plays called based on personnel. As far as plays go, it's not in the blog, but I think i heard him say in one of the podcasts or on SimHangout that the plays have all basically been rewritten. But I can't swear to that. The blog just talks about how he'll be making updates throughout the season based on trends and scouting. I expect branches in a bunch of plays are different, but I expect we'll have to spotlight a lot of those ourselves this year, he can't show every play.

I'm looking into maybe this year learning how to do some decent videos to maybe put some content like this out there, probably targeted more at players who want to learn to be more sim, as opposed to already hard core simnation types. Not sure I will yet, but looking into it, if I have time. Maybe especially for the Teach Me How thread.
Sorry I read blog once and probably should have re read. I guess my question was or is how does ace call plays? Obviously it will be random to get a wide variety of different sets and plays but "I'd like to see" a play at top of a play type get called more so than a play at bottom of play type I guess. More like a go to play. Correct me if I'm wrong but I do think the ai had the capability last year to recall a play they had success with earlier in the game? I could be wrong though? Will that still be or will that be the case this year?

Czar, will this be something you try to get in in the future maybe with ability to change freelance during a TO? And for the record I get some stuff is a base and it will take baby steps so I ain't mad at ya! All the stuff added is insane! And as far as practice plays I was just throwing out ideas as you said be cool to here thoughts on what we would like from this in the future. Be cool to practice oob plays and set situational stuff down the road. But I'm not picky! Just happy I can learn the ins and out of all my plays to destroy my fellow online league players with pure execution! :-)

Like 95% of the plays have been rewritten. They had to be to fit in with the new motion system. The few that have not are the euro plays and some classics that I didn't get to before launch,.

Only freelances that were not adjusted before ship were the pace and space and the eighties, Everything else should have been touched but we carry a crap load of plays and the last couple years they have all been rewritten.

I am hopeuful we won't have to do that next year so that we can start adding depth for the classics.

Also keep in mind we added new classics this year. There is a crap load of content. Then you look at some actiosn that have hundreds of steps when you look at the branch points.

That is why I tried to be clear to you play junkies that I'm not doing nightly updates fam. NOT GOING TO HAPPEN. LOL I MEAN IT VANWOLF.

Is ACE part of practice mode? will we see the practice players do read and react on offense and defense so we can see the branching points of the offense?

Hi Dr czar I am one of the sim fanatic as you call it. Speaking of sim, is there any set of sliders that is best suited to cpu vs cpu plays?

(B) Is it possible to have two separate teammates screen two separate defenders at the top (or inside) the three point line?

David Lee - 1st screener; Andrew Bogut - 2nd screener.

I'm asking because I remember Curry running past screeners from one side of the 3 point line to the other side of the 3 point line to get (probably) a 3 point shot off in the final seconds of the game. Can't remember the exact game, thus couldn't find footage. I just so happen to stumble on this one. It could have even been three screens back to back to back on multiple defenders along the three point line.

@00:16.5 / 00:17 - 00:20 mark
After you press the "pick" button, instead of pressing just 1 face button to select your screener, you can press two buttons at the same time. For example, to get a pick from the PF and C, you would (on ps4) press O, then Triangle + L2. Sometimes they set the screen on the same side, sometimes they set it on either side...no idea how to control that, or even if you can.

Czar, can you elaborate at all on what you did for classic teams play types and playbooks? This was always a pet peave of mine as guys like Karl Malone didn't even have pnr man as a play type and most teams only had 16-18 plays in their books. It sounds like ratings were redone with classics and current so that's great news. Just curious on classic books as I saw the 80's freelance I think you said went untouched or hasn't been updated yet?

Hey czar if you drop by, could you explain the mechanic when you get someone in the air and you shoot into him for the and one ? Is the shot timing based or rating based ? On the Pelicans OKC video Norris Cole does it but the shot meter doesn't activate so I'am wondering. Thanks man.

Van, Homie, your crazy and normally I love that but we have 42 classic teams vato. at 16 plays a piece that is 672 plays man. Other games don't have that many plays period and we actually scout the games and use as many authentic plays as possible.

Not including the fact that for the last 2 years we rewrote all of them to try and improve them. There is only so much a person can do in a year my man. No one is even close to the dedication we put in on the play side.

The playbooks...diferent team styles...each game being different...are essentially why I am buying 2K16. Nice work Da Czar.

Early pre-season NBA 2k16 prediction:

Van does the play books with some help from OS and gets playbooks edited for all 42 classic teams by thanksgiving.

Da_Czar.... no one that knows sports game questions the work you guys put in year in and year out to give us the best sports game on the market. You guys just give us the sun, moon, and the sky when it comes to sports gaming, it only natural to ask for a couple of stars while we are getting everything else. Appreciate the work you guys do.

Hope we get some info on how the in game mechanism works with regards to teams going on runs. In prior games when you were up 10-15, you all of a sudden started to miss the easiest shots to get them back. Hope that is gone
This has made the game unplayable for me the last two years and I really hope it has been removed.

See, I've never had that problem. One of the last 2k15 games I played I got out to a early lead and never felt threatened. Portland got it to single digits when my bench came in but I put the starters back in and broke it back open.
