I get DivotMaker's post and agree with pretty much all of it. But we are now to the release point were whys aren't going to count for anything on the sales figures. I am worried that after the talk of how bad sales were last game, the drop in face of the game popularity(Prime Tiger to Pimp Tiger to Rory), dropping from a yearly to a ???, really low course count(as it possibles indicates extreme timid ness on laying out "investment" capitol on licensing), EA Access early preview exposing any flaws before the money is spent that it could lead to several outcomes that effect when and even if we will receive a leap forward that just gets the sim side back to where it was.

Hypotheticals:

The games sells great and EA says lower cost barebones arcade heavy Golf games sale better. Let's do more of that cutting costs/features even more. Also lets release some courses for a high starting point and see if we can create a high profit revenue stream there.

The game breaks even and EA says is it even worth taking a risk releasing anything at all.

The game tanks and the whole idea of this being the building block for the future goes out the window as the whole thing gets backburnered or shelved. Or the Development hot potato game starts and the next few releases are ALL "building block" games as each new dev tries to get their agenda out there.

Here's an idea(that is way too late for this year): Release the base game with all of the flashy "casual" and multiplayer bells and whistles with the barest of bones sim/tour career. Have a separate smaller focused team release an "expansion" that adds on GOOD sim/pro career type content at a fairly high price point. Yes it is a money grab that we shouldn't have to tolerate, but the other option is apparently a game that doesn't completely please anyone and could just disappear because "golf fans don't buy video games," ignoring the truth that golf fans don't want to buy unpolished games that with THIN/shallow polish and depth. Yes it would suck to make two purchase to have what we should get in one. However, when the option is what we are seeing this year or ............?

I had it happen 3 times (Yes, I spent too much time in the sand) but no matter what angle, shot type, etc, I couldn't get myself out of the predicament.

Maybe that is why that level has a "you have reached the maximum shots allowed" message.

Otherwise, still having fun with it.
Yes. If you are in a situation where you feel invested enough that every stroke counts, you take you lumps and pitch out side ways or even backwards. With the double par pickup BS in place, it is hard for this game to create a situation where that seems like a smarter option.

I get the idea of the tempo and like it in theory, but every shot i take it comes up 6-15% slow on the forward swing (on tour mode). It seems the more smooth (tempo) i make the swing the slower it goes. I get perfect backswing every time - so am i supposed to take it back nice then jam it forward which hasnt been working. Any feedback would go a long way in to saving me $50 for a new controller...
Backswing is zero tempo and all how far into the backswing you get. The "tempo" ends up being the forward swing which awards slam flicks forward(if they are straight) so true golf tempo really doesn't come into play except in the short came where you can actually overcook a forward move pretty easy. From what I have seen on some EA related comments in twitch and such, if you are trying to bomb a drive with a +3 overswing then you need to have a +3ish tempo to get a real boost. So they play off of each other. I have a feeling; but no proof besides how previous games worked; that tempos will become easier to reach after some skilling up and equipment improvements.

Watching a twitch stream and frank nobilo makes a comment about the possibility of a playoff at the end of a tournament...why would they have him say that? Lol

I doubt it would happen but I'm holding out hope for a patch to stop penalizing you for any little pause in the top of the swing. It defeats the purpose of tempo. Fine keep the bonus for a flush, fast downswing but at least don't give me "slow" because I made a transition at the top .

Royal Troon looks awful. Pot bunkers aren't even a remotely realistic.

Do I really need to throw a temper tantrum after every shot that does not go my way? Please give us the option to turn that crap off

I simply don't understand the comments that this games graphics aren't good. I have seen videos online, it looks amazing, I can only imagine what it looks like on my tv.

Yes on my tv they look really good. Only wish they had overcast so I could see some more of the variances. The morning pink shies are. a bit much but the textures are solid, the faces are pretty good and the animations are smooth. Grass, bunkers, greens all look good. My tv is et up pretty well though so I have a smooth gentle picture.

yeah they dont really look right but maybe thats because they dont have a true flop shot to play out of the sand like you would need to get out of a real pot bunker

I think it comes down to personal taste for different styles. I think pretty much all of the game looks great.

Could you explain what you mean by a real flop shot vs what is in game. I had some serious issues with traps with even medium lips trying to just get out with a wedge. I think you might have a better explanation for why lofted pitch shots and flop shots didn't get it done. I understand trying an explosion or splash shot out of sand, but I haven't figured out how to do it here.

Just curious, how many of the courses are par 3? I have heard of at least 2 and is 8 really the total number of courses available?

Badgun! Long time no hear from (my alias is J_Cauthen from the Digitalsportspage.com forum and Jcauthen04 from the EA Sports forum). Me, 10spro and SSenator were getting ready to tee off for 9 at Troon last night on RMPGAT, and I saw your name on my Friend's list as I was inviting them. I would have sent you one, thinking you might have this EA version, but I saw your status was offline.

Anyway, to answer your questions. There is only one par 3 course and that's Paracel Storm, an over-the-top fantasy course. There are 12 courses available at launch (13 if you go with the pre-order offer where you pick up Scottsdale along with it, although Scottsdale will be free to all on September 14th). What's pretty cool is that two of the so-called fantasy courses aren't really what I think of as fantasy courses. They're fictional courses, but ones that I could see existing in real life. The Wetlands is a fantastic Florida wetlands course and Lighthouse Pointe is a course along the Maine coast that is a little bit edgier, but one that's playable.

I tried to play the other fantasy course, Coyote Falls I believe it's called, but quit after the ridiculous 3rd hole. I didn't even try Paracel Storm after watching the video featuring it... just not my cup of tea.

I'm not really that juiced about this game though. It just doesn't feel finished. The online multiplayer is really lacking and is something I wouldn't want to bother with right now. I think EA Sports will continue to refine this game since they're no longer on an annual new game release cycle, but I'm going to hold off until I've seen enough progress to make it into what it should be. I think the Frostbite 3 engine is a good one to build from, but it's going to take time to get the refinements done that this game needs. It is sorely lacking in feel right now, IMO.

So a playoff between your player and a generic CPU-player should be no problem, and a playoff including a PGA Tour player like Fowler, McIlroy, etc. should be no problem since they're officially in the game.

If it's just a matter of taking out the names of players who aren't depicted in the game, it seems simple - after all, who cares if their name is on a leaderboard if they aren't in the game anyway? And if the trade-off is not having a pretty key feature of tournament play, I can't imagine that's even a consideration of which to include.
Because I wouldn't want to play a game where I'm chasing Joe Shmo on Sunday. The leaderboard has to be real for it to feel like a PGA event. I just don't get why they can't give you someone's score and then let you play the playoff.

I'm not the best player in the world, but I made difficulty hard as possible and it was a pretty good challenge.

Has anyone had an issue with no commentary? The audio setting is at 100 but I have none.

Is it only avalable in a career mode?
