Re: Rory McIlroy PGA TOUR Trial Available Now on EA Access, Post Your Impressions

I get DivotMaker's post and agree with pretty much all of it. But we are now to the release point were whys aren't going to count for anything on the sales figures. I am worried that after the talk of how bad sales were last game, the drop in face of the game popularity(Prime Tiger to Pimp Tiger to Rory), dropping from a yearly to a ???, really low course count(as it possibles indicates extreme timid ness on laying out "investment" capitol on licensing), EA Access early preview exposing any flaws before the money is spent that it could lead to several outcomes that effect when and even if we will receive a leap forward that just gets the sim side back to where it was.

Hypotheticals:

The games sells great and EA says lower cost barebones arcade heavy Golf games sale better. Let's do more of that cutting costs/features even more. Also lets release some courses for a high starting point and see if we can create a high profit revenue stream there.

The game breaks even and EA says is it even worth taking a risk releasing anything at all.

The game tanks and the whole idea of this being the building block for the future goes out the window as the whole thing gets backburnered or shelved. Or the Development hot potato game starts and the next few releases are ALL "building block" games as each new dev tries to get their agenda out there.

Here's an idea(that is way too late for this year): Release the base game with all of the flashy "casual" and multiplayer bells and whistles with the barest of bones sim/tour career. Have a separate smaller focused team release an "expansion" that adds on GOOD sim/pro career type content at a fairly high price point. Yes it is a money grab that we shouldn't have to tolerate, but the other option is apparently a game that doesn't completely please anyone and could just disappear because "golf fans don't buy video games," ignoring the truth that golf fans don't want to buy unpolished games that with THIN/shallow polish and depth. Yes it would suck to make two purchase to have what we should get in one. However, when the option is what we are seeing this year or ............?

I had it happen 3 times (Yes, I spent too much time in the sand) but no matter what angle, shot type, etc, I couldn't get myself out of the predicament.

Maybe that is why that level has a "you have reached the maximum shots allowed" message.

Otherwise, still having fun with it.
Yes. If you are in a situation where you feel invested enough that every stroke counts, you take you lumps and pitch out side ways or even backwards. With the double par pickup BS in place, it is hard for this game to create a situation where that seems like a smarter option.

I get the idea of the tempo and like it in theory, but every shot i take it comes up 6-15% slow on the forward swing (on tour mode). It seems the more smooth (tempo) i make the swing the slower it goes. I get perfect backswing every time - so am i supposed to take it back nice then jam it forward which hasnt been working. Any feedback would go a long way in to saving me $50 for a new controller...
Backswing is zero tempo and all how far into the backswing you get. The "tempo" ends up being the forward swing which awards slam flicks forward(if they are straight) so true golf tempo really doesn't come into play except in the short came where you can actually overcook a forward move pretty easy. From what I have seen on some EA related comments in twitch and such, if you are trying to bomb a drive with a +3 overswing then you need to have a +3ish tempo to get a real boost. So they play off of each other. I have a feeling; but no proof besides how previous games worked; that tempos will become easier to reach after some skilling up and equipment improvements.

Watching a twitch stream and frank nobilo makes a comment about the possibility of a playoff at the end of a tournament...why would they have him say that? Lol

I doubt it would happen but I'm holding out hope for a patch to stop penalizing you for any little pause in the top of the swing. It defeats the purpose of tempo. Fine keep the bonus for a flush, fast downswing but at least don't give me "slow" because I made a transition at the top .

Royal Troon looks awful. Pot bunkers aren't even a remotely realistic.

Do I really need to throw a temper tantrum after every shot that does not go my way? Please give us the option to turn that crap off
