I know this will fall on deaf ears at 2K...

VC and Season Passes from other companies are not synonymous terms when it comes to added content in a game. For example, if I buy the Season Pass for Watch Dogs, I know what I am getting...additional single-player missions, a new game mode, additional weapons, and new outfits. It is up to me to determine if that additional content is worth $20 or not; I know that if I don't purchase the DLC, it will not hinder or devalue the experience that is included with the retail version of the game. Also, if I want to increase the battery of the cell phone my character carries (sounds ridiculous, huh?) throughout the campaign and side missions, real money is not an option when considering that upgrade. I know that I must enhance that attribute by advancing through the game, with XP collected at the same pace as every other player. I can then determine how I want to spend said XP and boost my attributes accordingly.

When it comes to 2K14 (and it seems 2K15), VC does not provide access to any new modes or features, but simply access to very limited additional content (MyPlayer gear) and already existing content/features stuck behind a paywall within the modes of the retail game. Purchasing VC doesn't allow me to unlock an additional, separate mode or content like the D-League or the FIBA World Basketball Tournament, complete with accurate rosters and such...something extra that doesn't hinder or alter the core game or modes. Instead, VC is spread throughout the various modes of the game and it definitely made me decide how and when to play the different modes included with the retail game. Because the amount of MyTeam points and VC earned are so out of proportion to the values of packs and attributes, I had to save my coins as much as possible because I wasn't going to spend additional real money to unlock players at a faster rate that are already in the game. I shouldn't have to do this...every core mode should be independent of themselves as well as the means of "leveling up" or advancing my character/team.

If there was a consistent amount of meaningful content (DLC) released that was not included in the core retail package, I would not have a problem with purchasing VC to unlock that content. If there was a constant stream of additional Legends teams, retro arenas, a new game mode...something, I wouldn't mind spending real money at all. Instead, VC and the temptation of spending real money is spread throughout the game in order to fully compete in the core game modes and I think that is what can be so upsetting to many.

After this experience with next-gen 2k14, I am fully aware that I am not in the target audience of this game anymore by seeing the absurdity of Ronnie and such on Twitter pimping the new, and limited to 1000 pairs or whatever, Kobe shoes in MyPlayer for 25000 VC (I think that's $10 or so in real money) and then retweeting those who ponied up the money for virtual shoes. It is upsetting to see their focus is more on the aesthetics and status of getting a Diamond Durant, rather than the core gameplay. If one went by what they retweet and "market", you'd never know you can actually play a decent game of basketball....for me, getting there seems to be more of a struggle now.

I know I'm late to the party, but I just want to add my sentiments, in hopes that it's the straw that breaks the camel's back, however unlikely.

VC and MyPlayer emphasis, plus always online even for singleplayer, all gets a raised eyebrow. I might have to see what Live is up to afterall.

2K is doing what's smart for business but at the same time not smart.

They added VC while NBA Live was MIA and a lot of casual gamers feel forced to buy it..when it costs like 20K VC to up your speed 10 points casuals who don't play often go "well it's only $10" and there you go.
But if/when Live ever gets back to being a legitimate competitor to 2K, they'll see where there loyalties lie.

If they wanna focus so hard on the fantasy modes (which I enjoy, mainly because there lack of focus on Association driving me in other directions) then maybe actually DO SOMETHING with these modes?
Imagine connected careers with your My Player, or even My Player leagues. And Park is a crappy concept, just keep either 3v3 or 5v5 quick match games where you can actually join with your friends...then bring back Crew. Stop worrying about this overly-complicated Park mess.

I knew VC was gonna stay, I didn't even get my hopes up for a second; 2K was always like the underdog to me, back in the day when Live was the top-seller 2K knew what the fans wanted and focused on that and it was all good. So good in fact that Live went away for a while...funny how 2K is becoming EA but wouldn't it be comical if Live came back and put 2K out for a couple years? lol

Not officially. Though, in the first post of this thread, there's an asterisk under the pre-order bonuses that says something along the lines of, "internet connection required". So some folks have taken that as a hint.

I suppose we can hope that just means internet will be required for things that'd absolutely need internet (head to head play from different locations) and not necessarily for general play.

What I find funny is ALL these people on this forum crying about 2k, VC, blah blah, when the forums probably make up 5% of their target audience. It's quite apparent that 2k is targeting the arcade style players. The people who just want to get on and pay to play. The people who don't have the time to put in the man hours to put in the work or just who want to be the "best" right from the start.

They made it apparent that was the way they were gonna go on in 2k13, so I don't understand why people are still flustered.

VC is going nowhere. MyCareer and MyTeam will continue to be the focus since that's their bread and butter, and that's not changing any time soon.

you do realize that you have to have online in order to redeem the codes right?

Go look at any ps4 game or hell any game you have period, that has online capabilities. It will say the same exact thing.

LD2K and Devs wouldn't understand why we hate VC, because they get unlimited supply of VC to spend. They don't view the game in the paying consumer's shoes. If they did, VC wouldn't even exist and the game would focus 100% on basketball simulation than microtransactions.

Bruh, you're missing the point it's about MONEY! Microtransactions/Season Passes are additional income for the company.

Let's not forget, In 2010 with the Draft Combine and MyPlayer, people cried like newborns cause it took your player Damn near a season or two to get a high overall rating. On this same forum, people said 2K should give us the option of leveling up our my players quicker, well, they did, and ran with it.

Personally, I don't play Ultimate Team with any sport, it's not appealing to me, but there appears to be a huge niche crowd that digs it and is willing to spend money on it.

Name a sports game that's come out that hasn't mentioned some type of Ultimate Team/My Player stuff? My only problem with 2K is the VC for my OFFLINE Franchise, scratch that out, that's shouldn't be there.
Nice try, but you're wrong... Sports gamers typically purchase the game annually and pay $60 for little more than a roster update with a few new features (often inferior or troublesome). Occasionally we sports fans are graced with a refresh/remodel/new/etc. When this occurs, we get a half finished product for $60.

So, do you work for 2k or you just a little slow?

Seems 2K has taken a little heel turn I see

Their use of VC is evil. They know most people will just fork over 5, 10, 20 bucks instead of wasting days or weeks grinding for it. Your time or your money, or both--you lose no matter what.

# 131 ShogunTake @ 06/06/14 08:22 PM
lol 5000 VC pre-order bonus. It'd definitly be worth the pre-order if they gave us the amount of VC capable of near maxing out your MyPlayer, but unfortunately that pre-order bonus is worth the amount of an arm sleeve! A whole arm sleeve! That's value right there

lol its not ending, people literally spend over 1K on this game mode.. 2K is not going to remove it, they are making bank. Yesterday they released shoes for 25K and people actually bought it.

. You are onpoint with that post. Looks like VC is here to stay. NBA 2k is unfortunately the only sports game under the Umbrella of 2ksports(unless WWE is as well). This means they have to do what they can to drain every stinking drop of milk out of that cow by any means necessary. Its addition has really hurt this title imo and I don't blame the devs at all..Just the suits upstairs.

You're selling them short. Don't forget about the leg sleeves. People are so ungrateful.

2K priority list

1. VC
2. MyCareer
3. MyTeam
4. VC and limit your ability to customize
5. Did I mention no editing headbands on actual nba players
6. That GM Mode that we (2K) had to put in for the fools (Rocket) that love Association and controlling all the franchises to have a sim experience.
7. VC
8. VC to put in that GM Mode
9. Piss you off
10. Laugh at every post in this thread.

# 136 start it up @ 06/06/14 09:17 PM
They could give me a free copy of 2k15 and i wouldnt play it. 2k's priorities are in the wrong place. It doesnt matter how much they make from VC or myteam if i dont buy the game itself i cant buy VC. I know someone will reply and tell me this is the future of gaming no ones forcing you to buy it season pass blah blah. People control the future of gaming not companies, and after reading the complaints on this post alone, unless the news gets better by September 2k is going to find that out the hard way

Wow, condescending with the insult. Lol.

This isn't about a particular genre of games, it's about production cost, license fees, and getting more money.

The industry can't raise the price of games cause gamers aren't going for it, but they can go about it by getting extra money with Microtransactions, Season Passes, DLC, ect.

You think sports companies wouldn't like to get extra money like the Call of Duty's and Assassin's Creed' well maybe you're the slow one...Lol.

With 2k14 pre order we got 10,000 and now on this fallen mvp game is only giving us 5000. TERRIBLE

# 139 cavs25 @ 06/06/14 10:34 PM
Oh jesus they are going further down the micro transactions rabbit hole.

They are rational business people acting rationally.

It's the consumers fault for buying the crap.
