MLB 14 The Show News Post

We just received a new video from Sony of MLB 14 The Show featuring the new and improved stadiums in the game. The video centers around the theme of "The Cathedrals Are Better."

We have also grabbed plenty of screen captures from the video. You can take a look at them in the screenshots section.

Some tidbits:
  • PS4 allows for individual blades of grass to be modeled allowing for more realistic striping of playing surfaces.
  • Up to 1,000 unique character models in the stands. Kids will be amongst the spectators.
  • Bat boys are included.
  • Better color depth and accuracy, especially for night games. Seriously watch the video it looks amazing.
Be sure to check out the video and let us know what you think of the new and improved graphics.

Even though my comment really wasn't negative at all. It's funny though because there are so many other posts that say, "not impressed with the models," or, "the heads are too big," etc. and those posts aren't getting flamed like crazy. But whatever, I'll just not say anything else about it. Anyone else, especially HustlinOwl can have the last word. Nothing more from me.
lol you still dont get it

Yeah, they look good but I'm not experiencing this jaw-dropping, come-to-Jesus moment like some of you guys are.

I can't remember who asked about the socks in the grass at Fenway, but from the shots I've seen it appears that they are NOT there!

I read a preview on IGN and they said the game looked and played epicly! That the wait is well worth it! http://m.ign.com/articles/2014/04/08...od-as-it-plays

I'm being very sarcastic here for a reason. I'm sorry but the animation argument isn't a legitimate one, or a very weak one at best. There are only so many ways to hit, pitch, and field. Everyone has their own little nuance to doing it, but those are only noticeable to those specifically looking for it.

Are there times when the criticism is warranted? Absolutely. However, the general statements after every video saying the PS4 is like the PS3 because of the animations is overplayed. It's baseball, you cannot change that. They can continue to add new animations, but they typically don't remove many so you will continue to see the same ones every year. Variety may be key, but you cannot have that takeaway from a 2 second clip of an animation.

I'm okay with the stadium complaints. Those can be passed along to appropriate person at the studio to try to get into the game. I don't think it's a purchase killer if they use white font instead of yellow, but letting them know so they can fix it is needed. When you're so close to a project, you naturally overlook little details like that.
You clearly don't understand the complaints about the animations. It's not about variety, it's about making them move like actual humans do in real life. We don't want more animations, we want better animations. And just better player locomotion in general. And I realize that it wasn't possible in the first year on the new system, so it's just something I'm hoping for next year. The job they did on the stadiums and lighting is incredible, now I hope they prioritize the animations and player movement next year and do as good of a job on that as they did on this.

Then why did Sony at it to MLB 14 The Show since all the stadiums were redone?

That's what I meant. In one screenshot, it looked like it was gone. But in the fly-over screenshot, it's still there.

I think that the animation issues (at least for me) partly come from the awkwardness of some of them. There are some newer ones that look much more fluid, but the way some throws are, swings, wrist movements...they just seem a little off.

As most of the people who share their thoughts, it doesn't effect my love for this game or excitement for it...that's just where i think those thoughts are coming from. And like others, I'm pretty sure that we'll see a very different game in the next couple years when more and more time can be invested into some of those aspects of the game that there just weren't time for this year.

animations, player models, (still too few crowd models, heads of children)...

first 2 are of course the more important. they are still on solid ps 3 level but I'm sure they'll get some work in the next few years.

I'm not trying to nitpick but I am the only one who thinks the grass and dirt don't look 'healthy' enough, especially in night games. The coloring of the grass and dirt just seem off to me. And way too many 'spots' in both of them.

I'm sure that you guys at SCEA understand, I'm guessing that like any good artist or creator of content, you're just as critical of your own work, if not moreso, than a lot of consumers are. The guy I was quoting, however, did not understand what the general criticism is.

You guys do a fantastic job, and the animations on the PS3 look about as good as they possibly could. But now that we're on a new system I'm just excited about what type of stuff you guys could do next year, and the years after that, because you guys are the best in the biz

It really takes me out sometimes after playing The Show and then going to a stadium like Target Field where the grass is glowing green at night.

They really need to pay attention to colors and grass cuts for 15. And I mean seriously should be a top priority if they spent all this time on grass. Of course I want to see everything on my screen before I make final judgements. I won't be too disappointed as it looks good from here and much better than before.

Honestly tho I don't get why someone doing stadiums can't at least TRY to get a decent resemblance going. It does make the stadium look a little hokey when it's that off. No one wants perfection here. I don't care what it looks like as far as perfection is concerned. I just want a grass cut that even half resembles the real thing.

My khronikos, how you've zealed!

I'm hoping for some of that stuff next year. I expect only a few things to go right so far. I didn't buy The Show on PS3 until '09. These things happen when you start on the next generation of systems.

As someone who is coming from what, 6 or 7 years of MLB 2K, it is hard for me to comprehend any of your criticisms.

The game is EASILY a system seller (case in point here), and by far the best looking thing I've seen for the PS4.

I think it's imperative that we all not forget, that this is a GAME. It's not EVER going to be PERFECT. It won't be perfect on PS4, and it won't be perfect on PS10 either.

Fantastic job Russell, et al

I still don't think a grass pattern or two for stadiums in need is out of the question for a patch though.

At any rate I forgot my old password and made this one. I thought I put my stealth suit on grrrrrrrrrrrrr.

Unrealistic in what way? For this year or ever?
Its next gen. Have you seen the player models in nba 2k or even maddem next gen. They changed the player models for next gen. Its not unrealistic at all for fans of the series to expect a bigger jump.

I appreciate their work with remodeling the stadiums, but I'm a person who would've of been happier if they spent most of that time instead on animations and player models( Big heads, short arms bodies we've seen on ps3).
