MLB 14 The Show News Post

We just received a new video from Sony of MLB 14 The Show featuring the new and improved stadiums in the game. The video centers around the theme of "The Cathedrals Are Better."

We have also grabbed plenty of screen captures from the video. You can take a look at them in the screenshots section.

Some tidbits:
  • PS4 allows for individual blades of grass to be modeled allowing for more realistic striping of playing surfaces.
  • Up to 1,000 unique character models in the stands. Kids will be amongst the spectators.
  • Bat boys are included.
  • Better color depth and accuracy, especially for night games. Seriously watch the video it looks amazing.
Be sure to check out the video and let us know what you think of the new and improved graphics.

Those new Stadium fly ins on the PS4 are going to be great!

I really really hope they have those fly in's and other presentation scenes in online franchises. I hope they don't just go straight to the game... Be patient. Why would anyone want to not see such beauty.

I'm not sure what stadium that was supposed to go along with, since it was kind of just randomly played in the background of the video. I do know (as does SDS) that in addition to the foghorn, the Yahoo! yodel will be played at AT&T after a Giants homerun this year (wtf). And of course, they can't use the actual sound in game... maybe that's what it was?

*blurred lines* lol
Ditto...i looked at it for a few minutes truthfully unable to work out whether it was a real AT&T shot or The Show.

That truly is a measure of how good this is going to look on PS4.

this looks incredible. at points in this video it really looks lifelike.
only complaint is with the bat boy, in one clip, why does he look like he's in his 40s.

For real, we need to get SCEA into football and basketball too, because this looks INSANE!

Based on a lot of comments, the animations look the same because they are playing baseball. They are fielding, hitting, and pitching in the PS4 version just like the PS3. I think they even stole animations from MLB2k! McCutchen made a diving catch (I've seen that exact animation on the 2K game!)

I'm being very sarcastic here for a reason. I'm sorry but the animation argument isn't a legitimate one, or a very weak one at best. There are only so many ways to hit, pitch, and field. Everyone has their own little nuance to doing it, but those are only noticeable to those specifically looking for it.

Are there times when the criticism is warranted? Absolutely. However, the general statements after every video saying the PS4 is like the PS3 because of the animations is overplayed. It's baseball, you cannot change that. They can continue to add new animations, but they typically don't remove many so you will continue to see the same ones every year. Variety may be key, but you cannot have that takeaway from a 2 second clip of an animation.

I'm okay with the stadium complaints. Those can be passed along to appropriate person at the studio to try to get into the game. I don't think it's a purchase killer if they use white font instead of yellow, but letting them know so they can fix it is needed. When you're so close to a project, you naturally overlook little details like that.

I just think more detail should be put into actual gameplay then audience members and ball boys that are barely noticed.
Yep, that would never happen...

I'm going to buy and enjoy the game but to me it doesn't look like a huge improvement. I know nba 2k14 had its online issues but to me that was a true next gen upgrade. I was expecting the show to have new player models and not the wide shouldered short armed models

I rarely complain about the game, but the shoulders on the players are one of the few things I don't care for and they only really stand out when batting they just have too much of a square, stiff look to them. Other than that I couldn't be happier for what we have seen for the ps4.

I don't mind reusing animations but some transitional animations aren't good.

This might be my favorite..seeing the red-headed boy on the left totally realistic.

It's more than just a subtle difference when you add everything up. And it's year one on a new generation of console. To me that's pretty darn impressive.
Not really. I'm just saying I'm not blown away by the stadiums. That's all. End of story. In hindsight I should have considered that everyone was experiencing this euphoria and that any negative comment would result it my getting hammered by multiple people. Even though my comment really wasn't negative at all. It's funny though because there are so many other posts that say, "not impressed with the models," or, "the heads are too big," etc. and those posts aren't getting flamed like crazy. But whatever, I'll just not say anything else about it. Anyone else, especially HustlinOwl can have the last word. Nothing more from me.

The one animation that has always bugged me: When the 2B fields a groundball and he gets his glove on it he just kind of stumbles but he never throws it to 1B even though at times he looks like he has plenty of time..I hate that play
