MLB 14 The Show News Post

There's a lot to digest folks, so here's my first article for MLB 14 The Show this year. Included is over 1,300 words, a video interview with Ramone Russell, Release Dates, and the new PS3 trailer.

I had hands-on with PS3 and (briefly) PS4, with additional time on both with Ramone. The Vita version was not onsite, but in terms of features, beside the smaller amount of Presentation (as always on Vita) the game is feature-complete across all 3 platforms.

I was just looking over the screenshots and the first video from a couple of months ago again. I've been suggesting a feature for all sports games but more specifically the NBA and baseball games for editing players, even the ACTUAL players that are in the leagues. Since it is possible to change the appearance of computer generated players and your own player, would it be possible to edit the hair, facial hair, and build of the actual players as well. Say all of the Boston players shave off their beards before this season. What if I want to replicate that in my game? I think it'd be cool to make every player editable in the game just like your created player is.

I'll go bad news first. I'm fairly disappointed for some reason, but this is what I expected. I mentioned there might be a significant push back on the release earlier because they hadn't mentioned anything yet which usually isn't a good sign.

I also don't think the PS4 screens look great, but I'll wait to see video to make a judgement. I'm super excited about the fact sheet and the fact that they mentioned that the PS4 version isn't just a resolution upgrade. It will be interesting to see the differences between the PS4/PS3 versions of the game.

I will say this: if it were any other developer, I'd be a lot more worried. SCEA deserves a little leeway when it comes to stuff like this, so I think everyone would be good to give them some. I remember how terrible most games transitioned from the PS2/PS3. To see SCEA make a game that not only contains upgrades but keeps the full feature list is pretty impressive. We already know of one developer that was unable to do so, and that didn't work out well.

When it's all said and done, I think we would all rather have a polished game released a little late than a buggy one released early. Can't wait to see what's in store for us the next couple of weeks!

Did I miss anything that has been reported?

I know more is to come, just curious about everything so far. I know not a lot has been mentioned about RTTS. You guys that ent to the community day, is there more coming? Just a yes or no if the NDA allows.
Online franchise mode....

There are some more tidbits as well.

It seems like a lot of people just click last and post their thoughts without reading the thread.

He should, because his article never said that. Read that segment again:

Cloud saves will also work across all three platforms, which is quite awesome. Also, something that has been asked for in what seems like forever, when MLB 15 The Show comes out next year, you’ll be able to transfer your save file to the new version and simply continue on, and that’s not all. If you stay with the PS3 version this year, and wait until MLB 15 The Show to upgrade to PS4, that save will transfer as well.
This only inferred the following:

- Cloud feature works for Vita, PS3, and PS4 (this was mentioned before mentioning cross-year saves)
- Cross-year saves work for PS3-to-PS4

It never mentioned the Vita. Thankfully, PSNation just cleared that up. Though you can see where I wasn't sure before that. So yes, it "sank in" just fine. It's just not written extensively enough in the article.

Well, seems PS4 players will likely be able to use OSFM on the first day.

Do any of the screenshots posted so far have the new updated lighting that Russell was talking about the other day?

I personally think this is a "no," though we might not even be talking about lighting in terms of how it hits surfaces, but rather that "real-time sky progression" or something.

That's another thing. I know I'm not the only person here who waits for the OSFM to start up my Franchise. I wouldn't have been kicking until early May anyway, with the April 1st release. This way, when I get my PS4 copy, things should be locked and loaded.

I'm guessing the generated pitch counts are optional correct? We aren't going to be forced to use them. Because I really prefer to start with an 0-0 count.

Yes I asked this already and from what I've gathered you can turn quick count off or on before the game but not in the middle of the game. If quick count is on there is no way you will start with a 0-0 count.

Yes, completely optional. One of the beauties of The Show. Always introducing new ways of playing while keeping in past ways.
