NBA 2K14 News Post


2K Sports submitted title update #3 last week for Xbox One and PS4. It's available now for both consoles. Once the patch notes have been revealed later today, we'll post them here.

Based off of early feedback, you can't save rosters to the hard drive and there are still people crashing in MyCareer mode. Da_Czar mentioned offline playbooks are fixed. Let us know what you are seeing.

UPDATE: Patch notes have arrived.

GENERAL
  • Fixed an issue in The Park where matches were not starting appropriately, in addition to a large number of optimizations for this experience.
  • Addressed a number of issues that were known to cause disconnects during head-to-head and Team-Up gameplay.
  • Corrected an issue where an assigned dunk package would sometimes not be used in The Park.
  • Fixed a number of issues that should result in a much more stable experience for users playing in Leagues.
  • Addressed an issue where the user would encounter a lengthy blank black screen during the initial launch sequence in certain conditions.
  • Fixed a bug where user Settings weren’t properly saving in specific situations.
  • Fixed a case where the user would experience a loss of controller functionality despite having a controller turned on (XB1).
  • Fixed a case where the user would enter into an unresponsive state after a second user signed in and then subsequently signed out (XB1).
  • Fixed an issue where the title did not send game invites to all Xbox Party members when a user enters a joinable online matchmaking session (XB1).
  • The title will now receive game invites if the user is already in an Xbox Party with the host (XB1).
  • Addressed an issue where blocked users were allowed to enter matchmaking with each other (XB1).
  • Fixed an issue where the title would shut down when resuming from low-power standby (XB1).
GAMEPLAY
  • Slightly reduced the shot % penalty on fouls in order to create more appropriate ‘and-1’ situations.
  • Tuned shooting percentages such that they fall more in line with our expected results.
  • Addressed an issue where teams would call timeouts back-to-back in certain situations.
  • Fixed an issue where the camera would sometimes stay on the scorer after a made shoot, often resulting in a 5-second inbound violation.
  • Passes are now more accurate along the sideline, on fast breaks, and when passed to receivers who are in the middle of coming to a stop.
  • Shortened the distance receivers are led down court (when passing) during regular transition (non-fast break) offense.
  • Fixed an issue where the rebound button would sometimes be ignored when engaged in a boxout.
  • Made several improvements to the dribbling model in order to smooth out ball movement.
  • Adjusted physics calculations on in-air collisions to make defenders ‘stronger’.
  • Tuned shot blocking logic such that defenders are more aware of attempting blocks when the ball is still rising, and less likely to target the ball on its way down (when goaltending will be called).
  • Tuned down the likelihood that poorly rated blockers will get their blocking hand in perfect position in front of the ball.
  • Players who successfully block a shot are now more aware and will have a greater chance of recovering the loose ball if it falls nears them.
  • Fixed an issue where players who shouldn’t be physically able to body-up in ride collisions were able to do so at a higher than expected frequency.
  • Tuned the body-up system in order to reduce the amount of clipping present in this sequence.
  • Made several improvements to fix overextension of player elbows during steal/rebound opportunities in order to reduce arm pops, and to improve hand/ball interaction.
  • Addressed a very rare case where a defender would snap up from the ground right after getting knocked down.
  • Pump Fakes have been tuned to correct an issue where some players would twitch when performing the fake.
  • Addressed a rare issue where the game would potentially hang after a player fouled out during a Team-Up game.
  • A new and improved ‘Beluba’ camera is now available for your use.
  • Corrected a commentary issue where the commentators would discuss (and often praise) a player for a given statistic when the sample size of the stat does not merit the discussion.
  • A number of other smaller changes have been made to address issues as well as enhance the user experience.
MyCAREER
  • Fixed a hang that was known to occur when loading save files where a purchased accessory had been equipped.
  • Fixed an issue where users would get stuck in the Shooting Drill when they had previous changed their Shooting Type to Real Player %.
  • The in-performance VC earnings overlay will now match what is actually given to the user upon returning to the travel scene between games.
  • Addressed an issue where player names were occasionally not showing up correctly when dynamic goals were handed out.
  • Corrected an issue where the title would not resume following a timeout called shortly after halftime.
  • Fixed a hang that could occur when the game would try to simulate ahead in scrimmages.
  • Fixed an issue where games would be unintentionally simulated when viewing the NBA.com headline about clinching a playoff spot.
  • Corrected a rare issue where the user would be unable to progress past the All-Star break after playing many seasons.
  • Corrected a rare issue where users would not get the VC reward for accomplishing a milestone.
  • Users will no longer get drafted 30th overall after turning in an impressive performance in the Rookie Showcase.
  • Additional ‘fake’ rookies (some quite good) will no longer be generated after the NBA Draft at the outset of the mode.
  • Identified a rare case where the game could hang in the dunk contest at all-star weekend if the user left the controller unattended for a period of time (this fix applies for MyGM all-star dunk contest as well).
  • Addressed discrepancies between dynamic goals and follow-up press conferences, headlines, and social media messages.
  • Fixed an issue where the reporter would reference a stat incorrectly when asking the user a press conference question after a played game.
  • Tuned AI behaviors such that teammates that are unhappy with your MyPLAYER will now show it more often after the whistle.
  • Corrected a very rare issue where a user’s attributes would be lowered to 25 in all categories.
  • Players will now retire completely in later seasons at an appropriate age (rather than sitting in free agency).
  • A number of smaller issues (e.g. social media message cleanup) in addition to further mode tuning have been performed in this patch to enhance user satisfaction.
MyGM
  • Corrected an issue where some users would hang when attempting to start the mode with an edited roster.
  • Addressed a bug where players would ask for contracts in the MLE pricing range when they clearly deserve contracts of much greater worth.
  • Corrected an issue where certain injuries were not properly healing in the expected amount of time.
  • Addressed a display error on the Team Finances pricing graphs where it would display the user’s team as earning $0 in specific situations.
  • Fixed a number of issues pertaining to the hiring and firing of head coaches and assistant coaches. This should now be more reliable.
  • Corrected and optimized a number of owner goals to ensure they always fire at appropriate times (e.g. staff hiring goals will now always respect the available budget) and that they don’t conflict one another.
  • Staff goals will now fire in the offseason even when the user has opted to simulate past the Staff Signing period.
  • There will now always be a minimum level staff member available to sign when the user’s team does not have the budgetary funds available for a higher level staff member.
  • Addressed an issue where players that retired to become coaches would get their name randomized.
  • Corrected a rare hang that would occur when the user’s team suffered an in-game injury where the user later performed an in-game save to resume the game at a later time.
  • When asking the CPU to rebuild lineups, the player roles set by the user will now be respected in most situations.
  • Tuned player morale/player roles logic to be slightly more forgiving.
  • Tuned the height ranges for generational players to be more in-line with our original intentions.
  • A number of other smaller corrections and tunings have taken place to enhance user satisfaction.
NOTE: All patch fixes are intended to work in your existing game mode saves (MyCAREER, MyGM, etc.).

Man I was really hoping that this patch would fix the POTG and highlights issue. It is crazy because when the game first came out I played 12 min quarters and got highlights, but then it just stopped working for whatever reason.

I agree that it's annoying, but I also think there are much more important issues that should be prioritized over this, such as settings savings, saves to HDD, defensive settings, fixing MyGM issues to make the mode playable (did a pretty good job with the patch if they will just fix the contract negotiation bug they created), and so on. POTG highlights are nice but definitely lower on the list of priorities than these, although probably easier to patch in.

Played my first game post patch (all-star, 6min) vs CPU. I lost Hawks (me) to Jazz. 40 of 64 total Jazz pts were in paint. Considering I had limit inside shots POE on for most of the game and the fact that the default Jazz coach profile states an Inside - Outside slider at 25%/75%, this is VERY disappointing. Not sure how to fix this?!? Trey Burke (of course) led Jazz in shots with 14, next highest was Kanter and R. Jefferson at 7. Favors and Hayward had 5 each.

Few notes:

*Gameplay - felt a little better and somewhat more responsive, but still kinda clunky IMO. I missed 2-3 gimme clear path lay-ups which was "cuss out loud" frustrating.

*POG and post game highlights worked for me, which is good

*free throw and shot feedback seemed a little better

*still dislike how I have to inbound to SG sometimes. Why does pg not come to ball at times.

*plays still take a long time to develop it seems. And even when called player movement can be stagnant. But it was like that before.

*offensive rebounds weren't too one sided.

*had sound low, can't comment on crowd noise.

*no warmups

*Hawks had black socks at home? Seems like a lot of these are off again. Think Celtics have black socks too? I'm sure there are others. Wish we could just pick sock color on player editor! Should be able to pick colors/gear/accessories for home/away/alternate?!? But, that's another rant.

Yeah! I feel this game was better out of the box in many ways before that first update!!! Kind of weird to say that.

I got highlights in 6min qtr game. Must still work for shorter qtrs like it did before...

I think this depends on whether the other guys on the team are 'play initiators' per their profile, which you can edit. Eg. Lebron will take an inbound like 1 in 5 times, because he is a 'play initiator'.

Hmm they said they fixed the block issues, but when I blocked the CPU 99% of time they still get the ball. They did fix the back to back timeout though.

so without reading the whole thread its good news/bad news it seems with the patch. It's good that I was able to get my old MyGM franchises that had frozen mid-game but now it seems as if the defensive silders or pressure has changed? I am in the middle of my first game since restarting my old franchise and loading my new sliders that I have been using and the defense for both teams has been non existent. I can't stay in front of anyone now and the game feels a step or two slower than usual for some weird reason? I don't know, it just seems to be playing different to me and I haven't changed anything other than DLing the patch and adding my sliders I had been using on my new franchise to my old one that I was able to unfreeze. I don't know, maybe it's just this game and maybe it'll get better and maybe the other franchises won't be as affected but the game feels noticeably different to me? Does anyone else feel as if the game "feels" different since the patch? Maybe I'm crazy

where can you adjust game speed in MyGM? any idea? I see player speeds under the user/cpu sliders but isn't there a spot to adjust game speed? I must admit I'm in the middle of a game right now and that might be something you have to switch after the game ends?

Don't know if this has been said but you can now change the opposing teams jersey in MyGm mode.

I just installed the patch (PS4), and I CAN edit playbooks. Same way as before, through "Roster Creator". If you can't, then there must be something funky going on with your game.

Park still broken, what a joke. I can't even begin to imagine the conversations they have at 2k. "We can't handle 10 players on the same server but that's ok, lets go ahead and cram 100 in. our customers want crew and we could easily bring it back, but lets make a fake *** basketball MMO where 50 people have to stand on the sideline and watch. that'll be so much fun"

Yes. Game speed is after game ends. Cannot adjust in-game

Thanks a million. I'm going to try re-downloading the patch. Just have to figure out how to delete it.

If they'd just add missing players, fix the rest of mygm, and allow you to edit other players once in my GM I'd be happy. Oh, and add different color way jerseys.

Can someone tell me how to go online and delete the saves for MyGM and MyCareer that keep returning when I do it in-game? The patch didn't help at all and I still cant play ANY mode of this game so maybe that will help, although I doubt it. 2K screwed most of us on this one.

Just played 12min game. Lost to Thunder with Warriors 136-91. Embarrassing! I had 17 turnovers to their 8, and only shot 40%. I stunk like a skunk.

*no POG/post game highlights with longer qtrs...so same as before

*probably had 18 and-one attempts, didn't convert one into 3pt play. Wish at least a fourth of those were converted?

*saw morphing catchup logic by CPU a couple times when I beat them off dribble (which was rare!)

*still had delayed block attempts by me, leading to goaltending violation. Twice with Bogut.

*cpu guards still just relentlessly pound paint, even with offball defense, limit inside POE, Focus on Westbrook, etc.

*Durant only had 12 shot attempts?!? Same as Reggie Jackson and Lamb. Game not playing to true team tendencies/strategy.

*i had a steal and a great fast break attempt and right when I passed ahead to Curry he angled off path to 3pt line, rather than going to hoop. Sigh. Defense caught up! Been a problem for yrs.

*i actually had more offensive rebounds! Yay!!! Rebounding seemed better. CPU still came up with some psychic WTF's though. Seems like big men (on human team) don't box out much. They are out of position a lot of times.

*still too much controller delay/lag to guard anyone realistically (like you can in CG), CPU or human.

*a couple plays were still broken, don't recall which one. Dotted pass line to no one?

*i feel it is a little too hard to make interior shots off rebound or in post.

*if CPU defenders play passing lanes, your players don't even make effort to create space. I don't even know how to lead pass anymore, wish it was L2 instead of flashy pass garbage.

In my opinion - This game looks like Tarzan but plays like Jane.



Personally, I can't take much more of it. I'm disgruntled, and upset at the fact I feel this way. It's not really even fun or enjoyable to me. Nothing feels fluid to me...just clunky. Maybe sliders could help? I don't know if I have the energy to find out. Oh we'll, I'm sure 2k15 will be more polished. I just hope core gameplay and AI get attention rather than other filler or game modes, VC implementation, or what have you.

I've just finished playing a game against Indy (I was Rockets) It was just awesome. I've never felt cheated entire game. CPU was pulling jumpers from midrange, and they missed some wideopen shots. (Before the patch they would never miss.) D. Howard was just aggresive on both ends of the court.
No unrealistic O. Rebounds from CPU.
Overall It just felt right gameplay-wise and statistically.

They also fixed the shoe pattern issue.

had post game highlights on 8 min quarters. It was all threes though with alan anderson
