NBA Live 14 News Post

Check out the latest NBA Live 14 blog, which discusses how you need to maintain a rhythm of the dribble, instead of spamming the controls. When getting into a rhythm, it becomes easier to chain from levels 1, 2 and 3.

The blog also discusses defensive controls and introduces the defensive slide feature. You will be able to attempt a dig steal, contest, and take a charge with the right stick. You will play against team specific defenses. So something that might work one night, won't work against a team that defends specific plays better on another night. You can adjust your team or specific individuals on the fly to come over the top of screens or go underneath, force players a certain direction, pressure the ball, post defense, double teams and more.

Make sure you read the entire blog here.

Good read and nice video. I was more interested in the video from 1:18 and on. Wanted to see how players move AFTER all the stationary dribbling. So far it looked good. Would love to see a full 5on5.

Definitely heading in the right direction, as long as the same smoothness remains while playing a real game.

I do like the defensive options such as being able to force to baseline whetehr as a team or individually...but still can't get over the Live 10 similarities.
To add, the game should have gone gold by now so the game should completely finished by now so no more working on it by EA so where are the actual 5 on 5 vids? Definitely trying to hide the game from the consumer because they know they're gunna catch hell and they're trying wait as long as possible to show the actual gameplay thinking they can minimize sales loss. Smh.

The tools don't so much impress me as we've seen that before...it's these different defensive styles they mention...

Is MIA really going to blitz pick and rolls?

Will IND play man to man and filter you into Hibbert?

That's a game changer and something I was going to put in the wish list thread tomorrow...

I hope it means more than each teams settings being different...

Different defensive playstyles is going to be HUGE is done correctly.

This is all nice on paper, it only matters on the floor in 5 on 5 movement.

That's one of my biggest gripes with 2k the CPU played the same no matter what team they were using.
Yes the CPU will use these settings as well.

I really like what I am seeing from Live. All they really need to fix in my eyes, is a touch-up on the skin textures and the colors. The Clippers red does seem a bit pink. But what I will say is that they most definitely NAIL accessories and shoes.

Is MIA really going to blitz pick and rolls? Yes Miami will jump out aggresively. They will also adapt to the situation if needed.

Will IND play man to man and filter you into Hibbert? Yes, This is also something that we will be updating throughout the year if the schemes change.

That's a game changer and something I was going to put in the wish list thread tomorrow...

I hope I answered some of your question.

Exactly. I love love love this idea. And I am without a doubt a 2K fanboy, I'm finally excited about the competitive factor.

You people can all yell at me and tell me it's not the same game. I'm fine with that actually. It still won't change how I and probably many others feel about this game. I really don't think it will sell well. I really think EA Sports will step down and give 2K the exclusive license. That's my true belief. Maybe I'm wrong and honestly I hope I am, but if they don't do something drastic within the next year, EA Sports is in big trouble.
Sorry but those aren't subtle little features man.

Defensive strategies completely change the gaming landscape. Completely. Offline and online.

When you play guys online who don't do anything but call for a Pick to free themselves up, I can adjust how I want to defend that. It now forces them to move the ball if it works as advertised.

And offline, if that Synergy/CourtIQ/whatever buzzword-of-the-day they want to use lives up to it's billing, then teams are going to play to their tendencies. You can't just play every team straight up.

None of this matters if the gameplay is trash.

But don't try to pass this off as something subtle or non-important.

If you like sim, this is something that you're screaming for.

Where have you seen the force direction or off ball screens at?

Best Blog so far. Love the defensive options. I am wondering if the ball can be stolen at any time? If the defender sticks his hand for the steal and the ball hits his hand will the ball go loose or will the ball just go through the hand; will the steal success be determined be a rating? Also it's nice to see some motion but can players pull off these dribble moves in motion? Can I get Kyrie on a fast break to do a in-and-out to a crossover? Anyways nice video, loved the dribbling by Jennings, Williams, and Rose.

you know why it looks like live 10? because sig dribbles were in live 10. the difference now is that you actually have control over them. in live 10 you just held the rt/r2 and they would do their sig dribble automatically until you stopped holding it or started moving. here you actually have to make them do their sig moves and you can branch out differently, according to the video.

seriously some people are hating just to hate without researching. video looked great, especially the transitions between dribbling and shooting. still need to see it in 5-on-5 action though.

defense sounds amazing as well, if it works as advertised. teams actually playing like themselves, and being able to adjust your own strategies against individual players or schemes. hopefully it works the way they say.

someone else said it before i got a chance to but im also wondering how dribble moves will work while youre running, specifically on a fast break. also curious about different shot types, since shooting is using the face buttons. seems like there may be a limitation to the amount of shot types that way.

Like I said, we've seen the tools to make defensive adjustments before....yes, there are a few more here, but it's something we've seen...

Thankfully OG answered my questions, which is good to hear...

You seem to have a lot of questions for me, feel free to send me a PM if you have any more...

I don't know. I just can't get into live. The graphics suck. It doesn't seem any different than iso motion to me. I know that Live had the original dribble stick, but it all seems the same to me. The whole signature moves and stuff just seems the same. 2k just seems to have basketball locked now.

First positive thing i've seen. I love it when games have depth and strategy!

If this actually works the way it's supposed to, I am 100% sold.

# 38 Gramps91 @ 11/01/13 10:35 PM
I like what I'm seeing here. I'm not entirely sure about the defensive controls but I'd be willing to give them a try for sure.

Nice job.

The ball has complete tangibility with steals and the ball hitting the hand. Along with that, different players have different levels of on the run dribble moves. For example, Steve Blake and Kyrie Irving have different "On the run" in and out moves.
