NBA 2K14 News Post

IGN recently had a chance to play an early build of NBA 2K14 with the game Director, Rob Jones. They talk briefly about the Pro Stick dribbling and shooting.

Quote:
It turns out that holding LT (on Xbox 360) now triggers an assist pass based on whatever direction you nudge on the right stick. It's wild fun on fast breaks or for driving the lane and kicking out to a spot-up shooter behind the three-point line.

Once I got some advice from longtime series director Rob Jones, the dribble-stick controls made a lot more sense. As he simply stated, "Dribbles are taps [on the right thumbstick], shots are holds."

Yeah the new controls have been great, but the gameplay has not been up to par IMO.

Its been offensively favored the past 2 installments.

So, basically, those of us who were comfortable last year with "Right stick = dribble" and "Left trigger + right stick = shoot" are screwed.

It might be worth actually trying it first before proclaiming your boned already. They streamlined an already successful control. If you liked the old one this is a better version of it.

Change is scary but you don't innovate by just staying with what's safe. But with change you always run the risk of offending some users but without change you are sure to eventually do the same thing so it's really a no win situation.

I didn't miss the old way at all and I've loved the shot stick from its inception.

I'm just assuming that 2K won't allow us to use 2K13's control scheme if we want to. They're not good for **** like that. ffs, we couldn't even save sliders in 2K13.

I just hope when I go to do a crossover the new scheme doesn't read it as a leaning fadeaway 3. Other than that this new scheme sounds very interesting.
I like the new dunking system where it performs the correct dunk for the correct situation. The only problem with it is that if I want to perform a certain dunk such as a front tomahawk on a wide open fastbreak, it might perform a reverse or windmill instead; and I'll get blocked from behind unless I change my shot, which could force a miss. This sounds like it will make the blocking system overpowered. Maybe it won't be overpowered and we'll actually have better paint defense and contact. It seems we won't know until release.

So how do we bounce pass this year? Same I assume-- LT-Pass.

But yes flashy passes need they own control. They should present their own risk and rewards, just like bounce passes. They shouldn't be restricted to when the programming randomly depends its appropriate.
if you use the bounce pass button often then you wouldn't notice how much the players do it on their own..i never use that button in the game and the players would do that type of pass on their own..when i really don't want them to do it..which cause a turnover...

Can't understand this whole negativity guys. For years i've been playing 2k and always dreaming of the time that i could do what the tricky, clever pg's in the league are doing. You know that cool style ,people like rubio,cp3,nash or rondo ,keep their dribble, slow down and change pace in the lane, create angles and then get creative with passes ,the defence ,could not imagine coming.

Now the new control scheme seems to get closer to these ideas ,it leaves room for you to be tricky ,pass into any direction in regards to your body angle and even pull off some fakes while driving(if reports are corect).

And all i hear about this innovation (free flowing passing with the LT) ,is that ,it's a chore for guys to relearn.

I mentioned it in another thread. I posted Shake4ndBake's video on the passing and he confirmed it.

Yeah I kind of agree, I don't want to seem like I'm playing AND1 basketball show, hopefully there is a alternate control scheme in the game, I just want the right trigger to be my shots control for jumpers, dunks layups, etc.

looking forward to the new control system. 2k always keeps the game fresh by implementing new control schemes, which become second nature after a few games.

as far as flashy passes, I would assume that will be dictated by part user and part player attribute.

IMO it might be how it was in CH2k8, where a big man would try o do a flashy pass or some type of cross over and just stumble or turn the ball over.
not to bring up CH2k8 again, but the game was beautiful with the passing and flashy passes being distributed by top notch ball handlers.
Based on the new control schemes it seems like they are going for that feel again. where spotting up/proper footing for shots was key, blocks were organic, and passing was fun.

So... your advocating for less control for users ?

# 75 quehouston @ 08/19/13 04:33 PM
I really hope Ipod is right about the spin dunk part though. I hope these new controls make it harder to pull off those type of moves.

I think he just doesn't care to use it and doesn't want to see 25 no look passes a game. It's great they give us control over these type of passes. But I can see where people would abuse it in quick play online games because your playing kids. Online leagues and games against fellow OS sim players not an issue... I can't wait to use the passing with show time Magic! To me the controls sound great! I hated the LT+shot to shoot!

I left the option to use 2K13's control stick scheme in tact via the controller settings menu... but I HIGHLY recommend leaving the default control scheme as is and giving the new system a chance. The Pro Stick in 2K14 is the design I originally wanted 2 years ago, but it just wasn't ready in time for 2K13. It's far superior to last year's IMO and it's the way I'd like to go for future versions of the series.

I'd say he's advocating the ability to let the user decide if he wants to use the new controls or stay with the ones he's used to.

That is what your saying. LOL The person he quoted hinted at something different.
