NBA 2K14 News Post

Last year 2K Sports started up their Community Team-Up Program for NBA 2K13, giving the biggest NBA 2K fans an exclusive look at the game. IpodKingCarter, Chris Smoove, KSpade64, vannwolfhawk, ShakeDown and sma11z99 all accepted their invites, while Da_Czar declined and Shady00018 couldn't make it.

2K Sports has just started up another Community Team-Up Program for NBA 2K14. It would be great to see someone from the OS community get in on the action.

With that said, speak up now. Who are your recommendations?

Please don't invite mrcheeserboards . You guys don't listen, the only objective of team up is to play the game early and report back, not ask questions about crew, association and whatever else. They didn't get answers last year and you won't get them this year. Jersez, JerseyReign and JasonWillams55 ftw.

Actually I want a couple of huge cheesers there. I want them to completely destroy all the devs and sim guys and thoroughly and if necessary, embarrasingly expose the gameplay flaws well before release.

1st order of business, paint cheese with Lebron.

2nd order of business, off balance 3 point spam with Ray Allen.

Best choice would be someone who's a sim player but is also excellent at cheesing. If all the guys who go are sim-only, the testing will be trapped in groupthink with unspoken gentleman's rules on how to not fully evaluate the game.

What they need to do is lock a couple of skilled sim guys with a couple of skilled cheesers along with the gameplay devs. No one leaves the room until the sim player can reliably beat the cheeser.

Wow, this is a brilliant concept.
Imagine Chris Smoove or another sim dude getting frustrated at the cheese that ensues.
LOL...

No disrespect to the OS buys, but most people haven't heard of the famous OS guys. If they want to get the fanbases' true reaction to the game they have to invite some youtubers. If they were to invite only OS guys most people wouldn't know how good the game was early on. Thus the reason of the project would fail(reporting back to the fans) as most of the fanbase doesn't use OS.

The only popular 2k youtuber i sub to is Shakedown because he knows how to break things down and be articulate when speaking. Ipodkingcarter's the Superman of youtube though...lmao and Sub the gamer really? the same guy that teaches little kids how to exploit the game. 2K hungry for those numbers.

Right. Give some new guys a chance. Just shows this team up thing is really a marketing ploy by targeting popular YouTube commentators. Sure Chris Smoove will most likely be again.

Let's wait and see Who else they pick before calling it a fail. I agree we NEED new people, but some of the guys from last year should be included as well. I think ALOT of people are waiting to see what new guys are asked to go. I am HOPING that they choose guys to address the pressing needs of the game. Guess we will just have to wait and see.

You're right, but I honestly don't care about this team up thing that much anyways. I doubt any of them will actually change anything. Just feel like they will just hang out and get to know each other, play the game early, and tell the people about it. Don't think they'll actually have any influence on the game at all.

Sadly you may be right. There is SO MUCH Potential with this event. I wish they would hold it in Different segments. 1st Group should be go in January. I think that should include the Gameplay and Association Guys. Then Bring a 2nd Group in April/May to get any new Graphics/Visuals into the game. Then bring a 3rd Group(part of group 1) in at the Beginning of August to get Contracts, Ratings Tendencies,Sig Shots, etc ready for each Player.

Guys, this isn't game changers. It's like winning a behind the scenes 2k fan experience. When we were there last year the game we played was just like the demo. No plays, commentary, etc... The game was almost final. Nothing that anyone says will make it in time for this game. You might be able to say something is overpowered and it gets fixed before release. Maybe if lucky during your 45 minutes of time with the devs you get to bring up some things that might make it in for the following year.

I think everyone thinks this is like madden and the game changers program and its not. If it was they would send out the team way earlier in process. Hopefully it progresses to that!

But this is all marketing! They will probably send 1 person from OS to appease the people here. Lol! don't get me wrong it was a great experience and awesome to get to play the game early and meet the devs! I hope someone here gets to experience what I did last year but no matter who go's don't expect anything. Da czar said it perfectly earlier as so many factors play into what your seeing and relaying back to the people. It's such a limited time with the game it's impossible to pick up on some things.

Last year I gave the devs the honest truth in what I liked and what I did not like! Last year I hated on ball defense from the get at the team up and I told them. It didn't feel right then and it carried over. I was fingers crossed that it was fixed by release. I mean my specialty on OS is playbooks and when I went I got a demo with no plays in it! Lol! Needless to say I was disappointed...

Our 1 person game changer is da czar! He has access to 2k and they listen. We are all in good hands as long as he is in the door.

And can we lose all the shameless plugs please:-)

Vann, I HOPE they take the things that you guys Brought up in the 2k13 TeamUP and implement them in 2k14. and with this event do the same. Use the Suggestions from this TeamUP and make the fixes for 2k15. With Live coming back 2k NEEDs to get the input of the USERs and FIX lingering issues to keep the product going strong. I understand DaCzar has their ear and NO disrespect to him at all(he does a great job in getting them the info), but the SAME issues have lingered since 2k11 and have not been addressed. Having guys play the game and give feedback is Great, But if you are going to take the time to Hold an Event, make sure you utilize it to its Fullest potential.

Edit: Also use the Feedback from Users at TeamUP, for Patches and Roster Updates.

Sadly i feel this event is nothing but for show, if they HONESTLY wanted feedback to make the game better they would do this alot earlier in the development cycle instead of when the game is basically done. I highly doubt ANYTHING of significance will be done as a result of input from the people picked. This is the sad part as there are some very talented and knowledgeable people in this forum that have alot of great ideas to improve this game. 2k the ball is in your court, will this just be a PR gimmick or are you going to really listen and implement this year.

Maybe he'll expose the exploits early and definitively enough for the devs to think, hmm, maybe all is not well with these mechanics.

I've felt this way ever since Rainbow Six Rogue Spear. That game was one of the most tactical and realistic shooters ever made in many respects. However, how the devs meant for it to be played and thought it was played was completely different from how it was actually played in the highest levels.

When realism issues against cheesers were brought up, the devs' response was "realistic tactics work for us, you must be doing it wrong". Their play testing was likely done in office by guys who weren't ridiculously skilled, but the best players online knew how to take advantage of the flaws in the movement model so that it no longer played like a tactical "sim".

I was actually pretty good and could run and gun with the top tier but I eventually grew weary that I couldn't play the game like it was intended. Every time I encountered cheese, I could come up with a viable solution. If the devs were exposed to what I was daily, then they might have been compelled to make changes earlier and more often.

It seriously took weeks of arguing with a dev over a minor and obvious change that closed a massive realism loophole before the fix was quietly dropped in a patch. The recurring counterargument was "I don't have a problem when we play."

That said, I think the 2K devs are very invested in realism. There are so many touches that they've put in that attempt to make the game look, play, and feel like real basketball. If they didn't care, it would be 5 on 5 NBA Jam. They've reinvented mechanics to get certain aspects of basketball to play out closer to reality when previous incarnations were adequate. There is love put into this game and it shows.

The problem is that they don't test vigilantly against cheesers, and there are still loopholes even if 90% of the mechanics are solid, reasonable, or even great. As a result, 2k's play online and overall design feels like a schizophrenic jumble, where there are a ton of realistic trappings but the minority of flaws dictate and overshadow the majority of competitive play.

By the time these exploits are discovered, player habits are formed and 2k becomes a bit gunshy about upsetting their cheeser fan base who've established their comfort zones and play styles. The solution is to nip this in the bud and aggressively combat cheese exploits well before release through Cheese vs Sim focus group testing, and aggressively attack new exploits after the rest of the player base gets their hands on the game.

I agree and I'm very curious to see if any of the things we talked about last year are in this year. That being said the dev team is extremely passionate about their jobs and visit this forum frequently. Just because something doesn't make it in could be for multiple reasons but maybe its not high on their priority list or they didnt have time to get to it. Rest assured they are aware of everything that is brought up in these forums from association, gameplay, to my player.

To the bold above - They are utilizing it to their fullest potential by marketing to guys who have huge fan bases and will help market the game for them. Genious really when you think all it costs is a few thousand dollars in flights and room for 1 night and then you get guys marketing their game to millions for them. I know what your saying though. I would love for this program to be like game changers!

Remember 45 minutes with the devs you have 6 guys asking questions and discussing things, and a lot is hush hush and they can't even speak on so many things. It really handicaps what you can and can not talk about. Seeing that all you will get is gameplay it makes sense for a gameplay guy to go to this event. This is really why I am hoping jasonwilliams55 gets it!

Let me ask you this, and IF you CANT comment I understand. Issues that have been Lingering for past Few Years have been Association Mode and CAT/CAP issues with 2k Share, were they Brought up last year in the TeamUp? Also the Lack of Detail in Roster Updates(Players missing)? These are things I would THINK they would address before moving forward with New Features and Game Modes. As we(OS Members) are not ALLOWED to post questions directed that way, just wanted to know what was said with these issues.
