Like I said, this year definitely seems to be a glass half full or empty kind of thing. I'm in the half full camp for sure. Yes, there's still a lot of things wrong, but EA have done enough to keep my attention without getting distracted by these things like I usually do. I just played the best game of NCAA for me ever, since 2005, with the OS/Playmaker sliders.

The uni degradation works, the option works, the animations now work, the cutscenes flow better, etc, etc. Yes there's some issues that shouldn't still be here and it's a crime it's taken this long to get here, but credit where it's due. EA have made a fun college football game, albeit five or six years too late.

My last game was Georgia @ Clemson under the lights in week 1. The first quarter was an offensive show, which Brad and Kirk picked up on, before two quarters of defense. I was playing as Clemson and had plenty of chances to take the game and was driving for four possessions in a row, but each ended in an interception (totally my fault each time).
With two minutes left in the 4th UGA scored a TD, but I was able to drive right back and tie up the game. I even had a chance to win it as time expired with a FG, but UGA used the ice the kicker skill and it threw me. I missed a thirty yarder and we were headed for OT. UGA scored a TD on the first possession and I threw another INT so UGA took the game.
Throughout it there was so many moments that made me think "Wow, that's just like a real game" instead of the usual "WTF!" feeling when the CPU does something totally unrealistic.
So not a perfect game, but certainly the best fun I've had since NCAA 06.

Think positive dudes!

I'm in year three of my dynasty as an offensive coordinator and this is the most fun I've had with an NCAA game in a long time. I really like that the new recruiting system is much faster so you don't have to spend such a huge amount of time recruiting each week.

There are a couple of things that I find annoying, but they really aren't that big of a deal. The first thing is the shoe-string tackles. I realize that they happen fairly often in real life, but I just hate the way that they work. I'll be running away from a defensive lineman with my running back who is significantly faster and he'll dive like 5 yards to make the tackle. It seems like the shoe-string tackles allow the defense to make tackles in situations where there really is very little chance that it would occur.

The other thing, and this is pretty minor, is the way that the players behave in the cutscenes following a play. I can be winning a game by 40 points, but if the defense makes a tackle for loss their players often celebrate like it actually matters. I've also seen a few occasions where my opponents calls a timeout and it then cuts to a clip of my coach calling a timeout. My favorite though had to be when my players started celebrating after we had just lost a fumble. Like I said, no big deal, but it's just kinda dumb to see players celebrating when they're getting their asses handed to them.

Overall though, this game is a big improvement in my opinion.

Just played my first game on Heisman and I'm worried at some of the boneheaded things my defenders did against the option. Mainly having the QB in their sights and suddenly turning on a dime and running upfield rather than attempting to make the tackle.

Like I said, I only played one game, but it's definitely something I'll be keeping an eye on.

Just took a Texas A&M user to overtime with the Huskers in my first game. Held him to a field goal, then Martinez scored on a 10 yard read option. Won 26 to 23

Defense is pretty difficult, but I had some good stops in there.

Overall I'm very pleased

Pluses-
+running feels completely different and better. Much more realistic.
+Defensive line can get pressure for the most part and pockets develop a lot better. Interaction is better overall
+cpu can finally run the option
+Gameplay feels much tighter. I have played dozens of games against the cpu and i have yet to get that WTF! feeling of being cheated in order to keep the cpu competitive.

-Recruiting is "streamlined" but it seems much less involved which i dont like.
-Defensive play takes some getting used to
-Still some "genetically unrealistic" recruit patterns in the game (IE a ton of black kickers and white cornerbacks)
-CPU play calling is still iffy at times although greatly improved
- A bunch of other glitches, Toss plays, No huddle, wingbone plays that are broken
- No real upgrade to the Flexbone offense
-Still some formations i miss from years ago (where the hell is the power T!!!!)
- Infinity engine still resembles canned animations too often

I like the new lighting
The sounds are better, waaaaay better. Last night one of my receivers threw a block for my running back and there was this thunderous crack of pad contact that I've never heard before in previous games.

Physics are awesome. Especially when throwing. I threw a little lob pass last night against Auburn in the red zone that just arced PERFECTLY into my WR's hands. It had perfect wobble and trajectory. Running the ball is a treat in this version as the cuts are so nice.

Dislikes:

Menus, I think they are laggy and slow. I liked previous versions better with the list format. Navigating between menus is slow and time consuming and overall it is an experience I do not enjoy.

Recruiting, I know people for years griped about it but I enjoyed the previous versions of recruiting. I absolutely hate, loathe, and despise this new system. I feel like I'm not interacting with the recruits at all. Give me back the old recruiting system.

Grass, well at least the grass in Tiger Stadium. It looks cartoonish. The grass is way to bright and it has no texture. Even when zooming in on replays the grass is all one color with no texture differences and it is way too bright.

Another close game with Miami losing to Florida in the rain. I would really recommend the OS/Playmaker sliders as I'm seeing a lot of realistic things happen in each game. Closely ranked teams have close games, but ranked teams will blow out a poor FCS team.

Some little things don't bother me, but I can't tell you how great it is to see all the uniforms looking filthy before even halftime in the rain. Florida's white jerseys ranged from grey to brown. Love it.

I passed on last years game, so I'm loving the bottom line as it's new for me. There's also a lot more stat windows in Dynasty mode along with the pop up banners and it all adds to the immersion. I also really like how if you play other games each week the score updates match every time, so if Michigan beats East Michigan 27 - 17 in the first game you play, then they will in every other. Also if you're playing a game that kicks off at the same time as your dynasty team it won't show updates for it.

Question, how come the commentators don't say the names with the rosters? Do they only say them in dynasty? In play now, I don't seem to hear them?

so far, really like the running. i have to earn things. sometimes i get stuffed multiple plays and then break a long one.

i like the passing.

i like the fact that at least my cpu teammates can spin move while rushing the passer.

i really like the studio updates. if there is one thing about watching a game on saturday is the scoreboard ticker and studio updates about other games.

EA needs to get a god damn patch out to fix this piece of **** pass coverage.

Somewhat minor, but I noticed Nebraska's new stadium addition isn't in the game. Don't know if this can be patched or not, or if it was already announced somewhere that they weren't putting it in the game?

Finally got the chance to pick this years game up and I had a hell of a first game. I played an exhibition game as UNC vs wake forest. It was a shoot out.

I must say the cpu's passing is much better this year. I had a tough time stopping their no huddle passing plays. I was however very capable of stopping their run game even tho I got burned on a couple option plays.

I'm loving the way the running game feels this year. Blocking is improved but still has its hiccups. One thing I loved was my lead blocker went back for a crack back block and you could hear the shoulder pads crackle!

My only complaints after one play was the no huddle bug. You literally have no time to choose your play. Also I ran the read option about 12 times and the DE went for the RB every time. Also after touchdowns were scores the camera would just focus on the ball unless u press triangle. The most damaging thing was the game for 10 seconds was moving in slow motion.

I'm sure once these things get ironed out I'll love the game even more. Definitely saw alot of improvements. And FYI, wake forest scores the go ahead field goal with 2 seconds remaining. I debated calling a fair catch and throwing a Hail Mary, but instead I opted to return it and ran it back for the game winning TD! Final score 42-38

Is there a difficulty level for recruiting? Started my dynasty with a TB team and didn't see one. Wanted to know if I could make it a little easier but didn't see a place to change it.

# 639 Herky @ 07/14/13 10:55 PM
Was screwed out of a RTG win because of poor clock management by my coach. He kept calling pass plays when I needed to run out the clock and I wasn't able to change plays. Then when a run was called it was to the short side of the field.

Why EA doesn't fix this is beyond me. It's been a problem ever since RTG was implemented.

Very frustrating stuff.

I'll keep this short and sweet as you guys know the offerings for this game. I don't know why I get bought into the hype of spending 60 bucks a year on this thing. It's always a buggy mess and 14, while it has some genuine nice things bout it, falls on its face in the quality assurance department. First thing that is wrong. The custom stadium sounds ruin your experience. Each time before a custom sound starts, the audio cuts out completely for 2 seconds or so. It's maddening when a person with lots of sounds and you hear the audio cutting in and out every 15 seconds. Mind you, I can do without my own fight songs/music/chants, but we know how bad E.A.'s presentation continues to be. Commentary continues to be dull and void of anything that stands out but it's to the point where I'm glad I can hit mute. But worst of all. The crowd. Or shall we say? What crowd? Can they be less involved? Did EA go to a high school game and record on a tape recorder with a mono microphone and use that as their atmosphere? I have my crowd up to 100 too. Doesn't matter where ya play, Florida, or Toledo Ohio. You can only picture a college atmosphere in your inner consciousness, because in reality, you got nothing with NCAA Football 14.

The fight songs are the same generic 5 piece band they've used since NCAA 2002 on PS2. I've truly had it with this garbage. So what about stat screens? well? The stat overlays at half time and end of quarters are ESPN all the way and does give it a tv style presentation. But it doesn't save the rest of it. The life or lackthereof on the sidelines continues to be dead. No pun. Literally. Motionless bodies of sidelined players, cardboard cutouts of cameramen and non-existent of life. Really? This is 2014 NCAA?

The new infinity engine isn't too bad. Its the best the game has probably felt yet. You can finally interrupt an animation and when a second defender is going after the runner, he can affect the play regardless if the other defender is affecting the base runner. So you can have 2, 3, 4 even 5 guys truly make a difference on a tackle. Running, passing, feels better, blocking is better and I finally feel I can play defense, while it's still broken in parts. With hurry up offense players, it's difficult for a defense to get set as usual. Zone still doesn't seem very effective. DBS still seem to be suckers for curl and slant routes. Especially when you start boosting up the difficulty. Sometimes the CPU QB can go like 100% for 2 quarters and not break a sweat. I recommend lowing the CPU QB sliders to under 40 to make for a more realistic experience. As always, don't bother playing online. Game is unplayable with the unstoppable plays and cheese game that they always ways to exploit this game. E.A. has done nothing to make this a better and fair online experience. Stick with playing with friends or the CPU.

Graphics are great in spots, downright shoddy in others. The grass/fields look amazing. Animations are well done and the tackles are pretty intense at times. Player models, ehhh, let's just say, they don't look any worse than they did the last 3 years. The stadiums look good, that is until you look at the fans who are the continuous worst looking fans in sports games. They are motionless cardboard cutouts. There is no life on sidelines, at all. No bustling people, no cheerleaders, no cameramen and the players and coaches just stand there like zombies.

Overall. I do regret spending the 60 bucks this year. I'm already getting bored with it. It still doesn't feel like college football to me do to the poor presentation that E.A refuses to truly improve. If they fix the audio cutting out, that will help. But it can't fix a horrible presentation that has been with this game since the PS2 and XBOX days. Probably better to wait for next gen. Save your money.
