Dude....todays sports games rule!!!!!
As it may be true that today's games are very good, the old games were FUN FUN FUN!!! Pick your team. Red or Blue. That was it. As things get more realistic, there's more complaining and less playing. "He doesn't throw like that!!" "They messed up the scoreboard AGAIN!!" Blah Blah Blah... Back in the 80's, the only thing I worried about was finding a HUMAN opponent because there was no option to play vs. CPU. Lol

This game hasn't left a favorable impression on me and I haven't played yet. One thing I like doing in sports games is watch the ai play. After someone scores a TD, the players just stand there like zombies or the ball once on the ground just slides towards the sideline. As I'm typing this there's 3 players just standing in the endzone. I think glitches like this and the goofy post play interactions are why replays are so close up and short.

And like Madden 13, I've seen mostly 1 on 1 tackles, big tight ends tossed like a ragdoll by dbs. I don't know if this is because I'm watching instead of playing, but it looks like all of these qbs scramble and every team constantly runs no huddle. The dead sideline not reacting to anything on the field, same boring commentary, same cutscenes often showed that I remember playing NCAA 12, and silent crowd makes me feel like gamespot's 6 rating was deserved.

I have always hated inanimate, boring sideline and player behavior between fields on these games, but I've just accepted it and try to block that out and use my imagination. I know what it is like when Auburn scores a huge TD in a big game and that is what is going through my head when it happens. That is why I am pretty excited for this year's game so far. I haven't played it a ton, but from what I have played I'm really enjoying the gameplay.

Anyway, different stuff works for different people, I wouldn't count on that getting changed in a patch though.

The Good

-New collision engine is nice. No more suction is great.
-Nike tutorials are fun and educational.
-Ultimate Team.
-Option tooltips are good.
-"Leading the receiver" feature works well.

The Bad

-Horrendous lag at times online. I've played several slide show games. Very frustrating.
-Defense is worthless. Zone is back to being complete garbage. Some of the time defenders won't even make a play on the ball despite real chances at interceptions or breaking up the pass. Man to man gets beat by back shoulder fades, comeback routes, and more than three guys in the pattern about 80% of the time.
-Run blocking schemes are waaaaaaaay overpowered. 75% of option plays go for big gains if you make the correct decision. Regular run plays are stupidly strong too. I just played a Miami guy, and he literally ran four unique runs the entire game. When I caught on to what he was doing, I would sell out to the correct side, shift the line, angle the line's crash direction, and blitz the linebackers. I was lucky if he got less than five yards. Running is just so powerful it's gamebreaking, and it takes no skill at all to run the same play in the same formation 25 times in a game and put up 40 points because no amount of blitzing and pre-snap finagling can stop it. I'm going to play an all run game tomorrow to see if you can win without passing. I'm willing to bet that you can.
-Online bug where wins aren't added despite choosing to "count the game" after a disconnect or a rage quit when leading. I've had three people rage quit because they were losing, zero wins to show for it.

Have Not Tried

-Dynasty
-Road to Glory

Ever gone back and played any of them? They don't age very well.

I'm having a lot of fun with NCAA 14, it's by far the best version this gen. (PS3)

+
Runs and looks great in 1080p
Infinity Engine
Lots of new option plays
Left stick jukes are awesome
Foot planting makes changing directions look more believable
Improved graphics and colors and lighting

-
I'm not going to get into the negatives because I don't want anything bringing me down from my natural high.

9/10

I've only played Road to Glory and Dynasty so far, but from what I've seen, this game is great. The gameplay is awesome; I've seen several HB stumble recoveries result in yards gained on the play. The new hit stick animations are nasty, in a good way. The way the camera changes during an interception is cool, better than Madden. So far, I really like this game. I'll be trying Ultimate Team and online play later today.

Man, once again You can't set default playbooks to teams.

You'll have to use the 2 controller method

Unfortunately, this game has the same issues as last year in some areas.

1. Field Goal accuracy slider does not work at all for human. Put it at 0 on any level and every kick goes right down the pipe. College kickers are not all 100% accurate all of the time. Takes a ton of suspense and excitement away from close games.
2. Lack of fumbles.
3. DB issues still persist on higher levels.
4. AI QB is Robo on Heisman. Doesn't matter what you do with the sliders. Dead accurate on almost every throw.
5. Notre Dames helmets and some other golden helmets still look like they dipped them in chocolate milk before they play night games.

These would be seemingly easy fixes, but the programmers refuse to make the sliders work.

Honestly though, at release this is one of the best NCAA to date. While there are problems, including legacy issues, out of the box it's pretty tight. We haven't even had a patch yet. I know previous NCAA's included the beloved NCAA 11 had like 4 patches to address some serious issues. This title might only need 1 or 2 fully featured patches to be near perfect as long as they include the most talked about issues.

There is little hope that patches this year will fix anything that has been as issue in the past editions. If they intended on fixing those items, it would have happened before release. The biggest issue for me are the auto human FG's and lack of fumbles.

Field goal innacuracy and fumbles play a huge role in the college game in real life, and its been neglected for a few years now in this game.

Really? I've got my CPU and Human QBA set to 5 and I see PLENTY of bad throws. Now if the QB has all day behind the line and his WR is wide open then he SHOULD be accurate.

# 555 Jistic @ 07/10/13 11:00 AM
This is the best out of the box EA football title I can remember in the last 10 years. Beyond the fun factor, the way the CPU plays, the stats at the end of the game...I would've killed for this in many past iterations of NCAA football.

So much I could gush over, but I'll just say that I'm very happy with my purchase.

What team were you using? I played as MSU against Michigan, Penn State, and Notre Dame. I was also getting a ton of pressure of the QB. 5 to 8 sacks per game so I need to up the AI pass block. But the QBs were typically like 23-27, 19-22, etc. They are literally on the money every throw even with QBA set at 5.

The more I play, the more I like. The interception touchback/touchdwon bug seems to be gone and the CPU puts up a fight. I played an exhibition UF at TCU and I pretty much controlled them, but I threw 4 picks (I never do that and if the WRs fought for the ball it wouldn't be an issue) and kept them in it. I ran the ball for about 160 yards and threw for 250. On defense TCU shredded me early with the read option, but I stacked the box and shut them down. I was happy with pass rush from the front 4 as well.

After almost a week with this game this boils down to if you like playing the CPU you love this game and can wait for a patch to fix some things

If you are a online player you're defense is broken and damn near unplayable on a competitive level due to zone coverage not working properly and man the man coverage getting burned by the same routes every play playing against another human. Your pretty much hoping a patch comes out in the next 2 minutes to fix the issues so you can enjoy a game that has so much potential.

2 reviews 1 game lol that's why we getting mix reviews

I was going through this thread trying to find the overall consensus of the game, and just got confused lol. Best ever to some and garbage to others. Seems more conflicting than past years.

One thing kind of the same is people that posted early about loving it may have wavered about how much they like it the more the played. Obviously there is the opposite to, but I feel like I'm reading more of the latter.

I'll also say I think some forget how good 11 and 12 were out of the box. I had a great time with both until they were patched. Even w/ the tendency glitch. Not to be a negative Nancy, but hopes for a patch are probably misguided. I can't remember many NCAA's getting much better with a patch. And in recent years it's been the exact opposite.

To those that love it, awesome and I envy you. I've read things that make me personally want to pass on it. Maybe I'll sucker the girlfriend in to buying it for me.

I'm using South Carolina and I've played probably 10 games using my current slider set. Last night's game was against UNC and their QB went something like 14-29 or something like that. I had a dismal game (couldn't get anything going for some reason) so my QB went (going from memory here) 12-35 with 3 INT's.
