NBA 2K14 News Post

2K Sports released their Next-Gen NBA 2K14 trailer during the Sony E3 2013 Press Conference this evening.

The 'NBA 2K14 – Next Gen Reveal' segment featured NBA 2K14 cover athlete LeBron James discussing life as "Video Game James" with a digital version of himself, while showing off some of his on the court moves in NBA 2K14. All of the footage was NOT pre-rendered and shown from a pre-alpha PS4 build.

Graphics look outstanding. Ray Allen and Kobe looked almost photo realistic at first. With that being said however, they need to fix those small gameplay issueres that you pointed out, and finally pay some attention to association. They do all of this, and 2k14 will be great.
well said

+1

Resonable opinion: PS4 is less expensive and not as restricting regarding to used games --> I'll buy that one then. Like it better than XBox.

Not that reasonable opinion: PS4 rules, Cable Box sux. PS4 XBox

Good thing this isn't a dialogue driven game them and that they spend more time on what you can actually see, like the court and jerseys and that, than whats in a players mouth.

You mean there won't be no crime scenes, no clues to collect and no suspect to interview in between games?

Spoiler

PC is the true next gen platform, ps4 &xbox one suck compared to PC even though 2k pc users will get shafted on stadium lighting, ssao, and features lol!

You're right. On the other hand, it really shows that the main point of the trailer was to have Lebron telling kids to buy the game. The best way to turn this into some kind of story was to incorporate virtual James, which looked not that great. Instead, 2k could have shown actual features as well.

But if you want to get kids excited for 2k14, it's better to simply plug in a star athlete than mentioning facts about the game. Now I know the very moment I refuse to go nuts about the trailer, I'm pretty much "hating" by default.
But still...right now, all we know about 2k14 is that the graphics are going to be great. That's it. Not enough at least for me yet.
The game could be great, but also disappointing, no way to tell yet.

Preorders mean guaranteed revenue regardless of the quality of the full products, that's why there are 2 Lebrons talking to each other in the trailer. Enough for many kids to press the buy button without any further thinking. And that's cool with me.
But it's also reasonable to voice negative feedback about the information we have for 2k14 right now.

I agree that facial expressions aren't that important to the game. But is Lebron on the cover worth more? Does James telling me to buy 2k14 impact game design? Or a shoe website? More dunks/getbacks?
It's all about hype right now. Appealing to emotions to get as many preorders as possible. There's nothing wrong with that at all. But I think it's reasonable to say we don't know sh*t about 2k14 besides it's going to look great graphically. How it'll play? Nobody knows. So no hype for me.

LMAO at the fact people can't just appreciate a 1:00 minute teaser trailer which highlights a major enhancement one would expect from one generation to the next; GRAPHICS. That was the theme of this trailer, graphics. Yes, sure A.I., gameplay, modes, classic teams, etc. are all critical aspects to how good NBA 2K14 will be. But can this trailer just be appreciated for what it is?

We have no game information at all yet, that will come. I don't know about anyone else but when I think "Next-Gen", I expect a significant step up in visual realism and that is exactly what we are seeing in even a pre-alpha version. I am sure things like the size of Lebron's mouth when he yells can and perhaps will be modified. Many of us complained last year about visuals, movement, etc. with 2K13 and at least on Next-Gen, it seems like that concern has been sufficiently addressed.

Loved 2k13 graphically, would be good enough for me even on next gen if gameplay makes huge steps.

Or maybe it's just a teaser trailer for a game coming out 5 and a half months from now? Of course it's not going to talk about or show any features. I'm actually impressed with 2K for even showing gameplay, they usually never do with these type of trailers.

It was something to show off the next gen graphics, that's exactly what they accomplished. If you want to over think it and believe they're just trying to sell to kids, I'm not sure what to tell you...

That's the point of Lebron talking to himself in the trailer. I haven't invented marketing, so it's not a matter of what I "believe". And you know, I've pointed out that some aspects of the footage are really impressive. Am I not allowed to mention negative impressions as well?
It's kinda funny how it's perfectly acceptable to post along the lines of "omgz, lookz so real. gunna buy that!!!" based on 30 seconds of slow motion footage, but if someone dares to be not 100% hyped up, it's not acceptable anymore.

I mean if I posted something like "Game's gonna s*ck. They haven't shown any features yet"...that would be premature and something others could point out as wrong. But the same thing is true for blind hype without any real facts to back it up, too. That's all I dared to point out.

So I agree that we don't know enough about the game yet. And that's exactly why I don't understand the hype. Just as you said, "it's just a teaser trailer". Nothing more.

The hype, at least from my perspective is for the graphics. The trailer was meant to show off the graphics and get is excited for it, and I did. Of course everyone wants features and things like that shown off, but it's just not going to happen 5 months before release.

I took it for what it was, and I'm excited for that part at least. I think we're both on the same page here, you're just a bit more cautious , which is completely understandable

Not talking about 2k14 on Xbone but the Xbone vs PS4 debate. Btw agree with mango, didn't at all want to sound unresonable

Get your point completely, and I would love to be hyped up for 2k14. But just as many people are hesitant to give EA a chance at winning them back as customers after the Elite fiasco, I feel kind of the same way about how 2k is promoting their games.
You know, it turned out the main selling point for 2k13 was really Jay-Z and that VC stuff. So I'm hesitant to jump on the bandwagon since everything revealed right now didn't impress me, besides graphics potentially being fantastic.

Also, while a bit of footage is better than no footage at all, just compare this to all the features announced and even shown in videos for FIFA 14. I've even read a preview with the writer complaining that long balls/turbo spamming doesn't work anymore. So even though we don't know anything about Live yet, 2k could definitely provide more. Dev insights were a joke last year (remember the empty talk about defense...), so was the gameplay video of Heat vs. Thunder.

I agree with you on graphics. But improvements in this regard are kind of expected with the new technology available. Let's see how the game plays. It's really not a given that gameplay evolves, looking at most genres. So I hope 2k pulls off something great.

The game looks solid. I'm sure the lip sync thing was a one off for the ad, so no big deal.

We do actually see the gaping black hole of Lebron's mouth during his celebration which they're actually featuring. Simply saying that can be improved to get closer to making things seem lifelike and human, which is obviously what they're going for.

I'm getting this easy.. I hope 2k can make other sports titles this gen 2. Basketball looks sick
